Life a little more Smokey for Vols

The Vols hope smoke gets in their opponents' eyes this fall.

Tennessee has joined the alternate uniform craze.

Hey, the fans love them.

The players love them.

Nike, Adidas and Under Armor love them. (More $$$ in their pockets)

And some coaches love them.

So why not?

Everybody from Fresno State to Nevada, from Nebraska to Houston has introduced new or alternate looks for this fall.

Even Notre Dame is rockin’ a redesigned shamrock look.

Tennessee released a teasing video this morning that hinted of an alternate uni. Former QB and current radio talk show host Erik Ainge helped confirm some the rumors swirling around Vol-ville with this tweet at 9:16 a.m.:

“The uniforms won’t be gray, they are Smokey and it’s an Official UT School Color. PMS 426. Butch is Master Splinter”

Word is, the school was planning to wait until 3 this afternoon to debut the new look.

Adidas, the school’s supplier, released a photo this afternoon that you can see to the right.

Not bad, compared to some.

What do you think? Have schools gone overboard with all of these new uniforms? Do you prefer the traditional look?

I am currently watching ESPNU and the SEC Kickoff special…..and this might be first and last time they interview really old former college football coaches from the SEC…..the old men coaches from Georgia, Auburn, and Georgia are making a strong case that a network should never interview a former coach over the age of 75. Stallings, Dye, and Dooley all made individual “senile” comments about today’s game and players and each lost their focus in the middle of their scattered comments.
