Finebaum is back, this time on ESPN Radio

Paul Finebaum returns to the air today, this time as part of ESPN’s ever-growing kingdom.

Love him.

Hate him.

Ignore him.

Or just don’t care what he talks about, you can’t deny Finebaum’s popularity and power in the SEC.

He’s been known as the “The Voice of the SEC,” for a while, a title that ESPN has been using to promote his move.

Finebaum, who has made a career of stoking the Alabama-Auburn feud on a year-round basis, has been off the air for six months after his deal with a Birmingham radio station ended, leaving his diehard listeners in a lurch.

I’ve already been informed by a member of my wife’s family – which, like so many families there, has both Auburn and Alabama factions – that Finebaum’s new show will back on the air this afternoon in her part of the state.

She can’t wait.

Like many folks there, Finebaum is as big a part of their lives as breathing.

The new show will differ from than his previous one. It’ll be broadcast from Charlotte, N.C., not Birmingham, and it will have ESPN’s resources behind it.

It’ll be interesting to see if his former regulars will continue to call and if all things Alabama and Auburn dominate the conversation.

Let us know what you think.

Do you like Finebaum? Are you ready for his show to return? Is he overrated?

Sorry, but anyone broadcasting from Charlotte, North Carolina cannot be the “Voice of the SEC”.

Finebaum has a serious cobb up his arse against georgia. He goes way beyond constructive criticism and hardly ever gives credit for anything.
Kind of like the Bamard trolls on blogs.
I’ll take Mr. College Football Tony Barnhart’s knowledge and news over Finebaum’s yellow journalism anyday.

Tried to listen to him several times but had to leave before upchucking listening to mostly Bammer fans call in. Half the Bammer fans couldn’t find Tuscaloosa on a map but they are Finebaum’s biggest supporters because they have a mutual admiration society. He rarely gives any coach or program other than Saban/Alabama credit for any success. I have loved his absence from radio in Georgia.

Finebaum’s pretty cool, but you wouldn’t like him if you can’t handle the truth. He’s even-handed, but he’s also brutally honest — even when it concerns his Alma Mater, Tennessee.

Typical Finebaum, Bama fan, recent call in. “Paul, I jest don’t understand why Auburn even
has an injurneering class anymore, heck, thar aint hardly any trains running in Alabama anymore.”

Fineboob should have been consigned to a Dothan am station. He is totally worthless except to
play in the Alabama – Auburn sandbox.

No one outside that state has any interest in it. Certainly not in the Queen City !

Finebaum may be the voice of the SEC, but Barthart is the brain of the SEC.

Three weeks – can’t wait – good luck to everyone and their teams.

Did anyone listen to Finebaum’s show yesterday? If so, what was it like? Was it similar to his previous one?

@Andy Johnston

Yes. It was quite similar to the old show. Many of the same callers. Robert from Iowa called in.

Paul said that he would continue to focus on the SEC, but that he would have a somewhat more varied schedule of interviews than he had in the past.

Finebuam is anything but the “voice of the SEC”. I lived in that state when his program first aired. I listened regularly. Thank God I moved. Voice of the Bama/Barners would be more accurate. Like any decent DJ he panders to his audience and that isn’t the SEC. I did listen once in a while on sirius xm. He is not subjective enough to be called the voice of the SEC. He’s all Bama and only partially Auburn, nothing else

I suspect Paul would give more coverage to Georgia if they started winning meaningful games.

Whether it’s sports talk radio, or ESPN, the bulk of the coverage will go to the best teams. I remember when Bama fans hated Finebaum and accused him of being a “Barner” because he praised Auburn too much. Fact is, during that time Auburn had a winning streak going against Bama.

Everyone in the Southeast hated ESPN in the early 2000s because they were “USC Homers”. Well… USC was competing for the NC every year and the SEC was not. When the situation changed, the coverage “magically” changed along with it, and West Coasters started complaining that ESPN was sold out to the SEC.

Whiners will whine. It’s what they do. ;-)
