Will Nick Marshall start at Auburn?

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall was a stud in high school, was kicked out of Georgia, was a stud in his one JUCO year and is now the young man who might be Gus Malzahn’s first QB at Auburn.

Marshall has crazy talent.

A short list:

  • Strong arm
  • Fast feet
  • Throws on the run
  • At home in the spread

Despite those skills and the fact that he holds the Georgia high school record for career TD passes with 103 while at Wilcox County, Marshall played corner at UGA in 2011. Mark Richt already had Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason at QB and the Bulldogs needed athletes elsewhere.

Marshall was booted out of UGA in 2012, transferred to Garden City (Kan.) CC, and promptly threw for 3,142 yards and 18 TDs and rushed for 1,095 and 19 more scores.

“He’s one unbelievable athlete,” Murray said this summer. “(He can) throw a football farther than anyone I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Marshall also was picked off 20 times in his 10 games at Garden City, something Malzahn obviously is working on as Auburn prepares for this fall.

Now don’t get me wrong.

The Tigers don’t appear anywhere near naming their starting QB. Marshall is one of a quartet that includes last year’s returning starters — Jonathan Wallace and Kiehl Frazier – and freshman Jeremy Johnson.

Malzahn’s offense puts a lot of pressure on his QBs, so one will need to step forward in the next three weeks unless the Tigers want a repeat of last year, when they were next to last in both passing and scoring offense.

Marshall’s athleticism might put him ahead of the others in the QB race, but judging by his 20 interceptions against JUCO competition, he might not be ready to face SEC defenses.

Notes and such

  • Miami’s new locker room is named after Dwayne Johnson. Who’s that? He’s better known as “The Rock” and played at Miami in the early 1990s. He’s given generously from his wrestling and movie earnings through the years.
  • Wake Forest leading rusher Josh Harris was declared ineligible last week. He was reinstated today.
  • While we’re on Wake Forest — it might be the last time — think of the marketing opportunities if Steed Lobotzke (the Deacons’ offensive coordinator) worked for a team nicknamed Broncos or Mustangs.
  • N.C. State RB Shadrach Thornton, who played at Liberty County, will sit out the Wolfpack’s first game after being arrested and charged with assault on a female. He rushed for 694 yards last year, despite missing three games.

The irony embedded in that last post is downright delicious. ;-)

Tide roll is a Tech fan
Tide roll has a restraining order against him by all the GT football coaches
Tide roll is an idiot
Tide roll ignores the fact that we recruited DJ Shockley, who is black and he played QB for us
Tide roll ignores the fact that Christian Lemay is black
Tide roll ignores the fact that Deshaun Watson was recruited very heavily by UGA

Tide roll, I will meet you anywhere, anytime in person and introduce you to a white boy AZZ whipping.

You are a moron

Jennings had no chance vs. Lovejoy’s defense. They barely lost to Norcross in the finals.

What’s the kid supposed to do?

Anthony won the Atlanta regionals in the elite 11 competition over 98 other QBs from 17 states including y’all’s next great hope Ramsey, who didn’t place in the finals!

But that doesn’t matter to Bobo and you UGA fans because that’s not what it’s about is it UGA fans?

Pitiful. No wonder it’s been 35 years. Y’all deserve every on of them.

Why the snark on Wake Forest? I saw them crush Clemson and FSU more than once. And I’d rather watch them play than Georgia Tech.

Hey Roll Tide, Charlie Ward wanted to stay close to home; therefore, he went FSU. Watson chose not to go to UGA. Cam Newton was not recruited as a QB because UGA was set at QB at the time. Roll they also lost that game to Newnan so really didn’t matter what he did!! Against Lovejoy, in the second round, he finished 15-28 for 153 yards with 1td and 2ints. He also ran for 18 yards and was sacked 9 times. So stop cherry picking certain games to make the dude look like a god!!

Auburn had good luck with its last QB who was booted from Fla for stealing a computer and they are going to see if lightning can strike twice with Marshall.

Why are so many Georgia fans so obsessed with their fellow posters that they forget to discuss football on a football blog? Probably 2/3 of the posts on these AJC sports blogs consist of posters whining about other posters.

I was disappointed when NM got booted off the team. It was completely his own fault and he admits that. I saw him play QB as a high schooler and the kid was amazing. Hopefully he will work his way in the the starting QB at AU. I want to see him playing. He made a mistake and hopefully, he’ll come out it a better man.

I agree. Alabama is just the country western counties of the Atlanta metro. Any holiday will find I-20 West littered with Alabama people flocking home to see the refugees they left behind. They are like northern transplants and European immigrants. They will tell you how great their homeland is – even though they abandoned it for Atlanta. As always, please feel free to return home. It was so great you burned rubber out of there the second you could.

I find it interesting that seemingly virtually everyone from Alabama, and to a lesser degree other states, bail out of their home state once they become of age and move to the great state of Georgia. Then, they get on these blogs and brag about how great their worthless schools and backward states are despite the fact that they abandoned them. I also find it amazing that mental midgets, who are probably banned from their own school’s blog (assuming they even attended college there or anywhere else), post on this UGA blog. Why the obsession if your school and your state is so great? Could it be some inferiority complex about yourself, your school and your state. Reason makes me think so. Please just go away. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Just go away.
