Will Nick Marshall start at Auburn?

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall was a stud in high school, was kicked out of Georgia, was a stud in his one JUCO year and is now the young man who might be Gus Malzahn’s first QB at Auburn.

Marshall has crazy talent.

A short list:

  • Strong arm
  • Fast feet
  • Throws on the run
  • At home in the spread

Despite those skills and the fact that he holds the Georgia high school record for career TD passes with 103 while at Wilcox County, Marshall played corner at UGA in 2011. Mark Richt already had Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason at QB and the Bulldogs needed athletes elsewhere.

Marshall was booted out of UGA in 2012, transferred to Garden City (Kan.) CC, and promptly threw for 3,142 yards and 18 TDs and rushed for 1,095 and 19 more scores.

“He’s one unbelievable athlete,” Murray said this summer. “(He can) throw a football farther than anyone I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Marshall also was picked off 20 times in his 10 games at Garden City, something Malzahn obviously is working on as Auburn prepares for this fall.

Now don’t get me wrong.

The Tigers don’t appear anywhere near naming their starting QB. Marshall is one of a quartet that includes last year’s returning starters — Jonathan Wallace and Kiehl Frazier – and freshman Jeremy Johnson.

Malzahn’s offense puts a lot of pressure on his QBs, so one will need to step forward in the next three weeks unless the Tigers want a repeat of last year, when they were next to last in both passing and scoring offense.

Marshall’s athleticism might put him ahead of the others in the QB race, but judging by his 20 interceptions against JUCO competition, he might not be ready to face SEC defenses.

Notes and such

  • Miami’s new locker room is named after Dwayne Johnson. Who’s that? He’s better known as “The Rock” and played at Miami in the early 1990s. He’s given generously from his wrestling and movie earnings through the years.
  • Wake Forest leading rusher Josh Harris was declared ineligible last week. He was reinstated today.
  • While we’re on Wake Forest — it might be the last time — think of the marketing opportunities if Steed Lobotzke (the Deacons’ offensive coordinator) worked for a team nicknamed Broncos or Mustangs.
  • N.C. State RB Shadrach Thornton, who played at Liberty County, will sit out the Wolfpack’s first game after being arrested and charged with assault on a female. He rushed for 694 yards last year, despite missing three games.

Marshall stole money from a team mate. He missed his chance by not playing basketball.

Nick Marshall screwed up when he didn’t sign with TECH to play QB.
He had to go through all this crap to end back up playing QB.
Nick you should have hit the books and played QB at TECH.

@ NC Dawg – Tide Roll has been spouting the same nonsense for years on these blogs and only gets away with it now on the blogs that don’t require registration. Hopefully that will get straightened out very soon. Maybe Tide Roll is The Hater and is just stirring things up to get hits. If you go back through the history of UGA you will find that UGA has had a number of QBs that happened to be black.

Now I know why you ignorant fools think putting a roll of toilet paper on top of box of Tide is clever… you’re whacko idiots! What the hell are you talking about? If you are implying that Georgia only recruits white QB’s you have genuinely lost your mind. The Dawgs are still recruiting Deshaun Watson, they have Christian Lemay on their roster right now and started DJ Shockley in 2005. We also had a guy named Quincy Carter back in 1998-2000, who started each year he was there.

You have 30 times as many Paula Deans in Bama with less than half the population. In every post you have crapped all over yourself so now we know why you call yourself Tide Roll. Your going to need it to clean up your mess.

Go run home to Mommy, you can’t play with the big boys. You are embarrassing your family.

You know what y’all are. And that’s what you always will be. You have 12 male versions of Paula Deen making up your Athletic Board, and Richt sells you out and yields to their wishes

You guys would rather lose with Mason Hudson (which is what’s going to happen) than win with a kid like Anthony Jennings. Come on NC DAWG. It’s soooo obvious. Why don’t you admit it. Admit what your program is.

Until y;all are willing to do right by kids such as Marshall, Jennings. Jonathan McCrary and Deshaun Watson, you’ll continue to be what you are now. THE MOST OVERRATED and UNDER ACHIEVING football program in America.35 years

Industrial strength butt cleaner aka Tide Roll – WHY didn’t almighty Bama recruit them if they are so great? You never answered… and you can’t without making a bigger fool of yourself. Go back and worry about your own players… if Jennings is so great he’ll carve you up like Johnny Football did and you’ll miss out of the butt kicking your West division representative is going to get.

CAM NEWTON Atlanta GEORGIA ! – Heisman winner. Auburn – National Champs

SEAN JONES Thomasville GEORGIA ! – Ga. Tech – National Champs

Thre’s not another school in America that can boast this record. Other than UGA! All in-state studs. All largely ignored by the DAWGS, which results in your competitors winning National Titles! It’s hilarious. Who’s it gonna be next?

NICK MARSHALL – Wilcox County GEORGIA – Auburn

DESHAUN WATSON – Gainesville GEORGIA – Clemson.

DO IT DAWGS! UGA football. A tradition of ……! Can we get a GOOOOOO DAWGS! Sic ‘em from Paula Deen maybe?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start for Auburn. He seems to be the type of QB that Gus likes in his offense.

Wasn’t he one of those “Dream Team” recruits at Georgia? He might well come back as a nightmare on November, 16th. Time will tell.
