Will Nick Marshall start at Auburn?

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall and the other Auburn QBs will have to decipher plays from this pop culture-laden board, and others like it.

Nick Marshall was a stud in high school, was kicked out of Georgia, was a stud in his one JUCO year and is now the young man who might be Gus Malzahn’s first QB at Auburn.

Marshall has crazy talent.

A short list:

  • Strong arm
  • Fast feet
  • Throws on the run
  • At home in the spread

Despite those skills and the fact that he holds the Georgia high school record for career TD passes with 103 while at Wilcox County, Marshall played corner at UGA in 2011. Mark Richt already had Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason at QB and the Bulldogs needed athletes elsewhere.

Marshall was booted out of UGA in 2012, transferred to Garden City (Kan.) CC, and promptly threw for 3,142 yards and 18 TDs and rushed for 1,095 and 19 more scores.

“He’s one unbelievable athlete,” Murray said this summer. “(He can) throw a football farther than anyone I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Marshall also was picked off 20 times in his 10 games at Garden City, something Malzahn obviously is working on as Auburn prepares for this fall.

Now don’t get me wrong.

The Tigers don’t appear anywhere near naming their starting QB. Marshall is one of a quartet that includes last year’s returning starters — Jonathan Wallace and Kiehl Frazier – and freshman Jeremy Johnson.

Malzahn’s offense puts a lot of pressure on his QBs, so one will need to step forward in the next three weeks unless the Tigers want a repeat of last year, when they were next to last in both passing and scoring offense.

Marshall’s athleticism might put him ahead of the others in the QB race, but judging by his 20 interceptions against JUCO competition, he might not be ready to face SEC defenses.

Notes and such

  • Miami’s new locker room is named after Dwayne Johnson. Who’s that? He’s better known as “The Rock” and played at Miami in the early 1990s. He’s given generously from his wrestling and movie earnings through the years.
  • Wake Forest leading rusher Josh Harris was declared ineligible last week. He was reinstated today.
  • While we’re on Wake Forest — it might be the last time — think of the marketing opportunities if Steed Lobotzke (the Deacons’ offensive coordinator) worked for a team nicknamed Broncos or Mustangs.
  • N.C. State RB Shadrach Thornton, who played at Liberty County, will sit out the Wolfpack’s first game after being arrested and charged with assault on a female. He rushed for 694 yards last year, despite missing three games.

And why didn’t the almighty Tide offer, Tide Roll the industrial strength butt wiper? Why didn’t they get him if he is soooo great?

Just face it…you stepped in it and you can’t escape. Nick Marshall was recruited to be a DB and went to UGA because he wanted to be a DB. Pretty simple. If he had wanted to be a QB he would have insisted on it.
Just damn…

I guess a Tide Roll is what you use when you want to get you butt extra clean when you wipe?

I was surprised Richt did not give Marshall a look at QB. He is a Charlie Ward with speed and a super arm. And Richt coached Ward to a National Title at FSU.

Oh, I almost forgot. LSU lists Jennings at 6′3″ 210. Size 15 shoe. So he’s going to grow. You dawg fans can count on that.

Richt/Booboo just gave LSU the next Cam Newton. Y’all remember him, don’t you? The Heisman trophy winner from Atlanta Westlake? The one Richt went public with as y’all evaluating him as a tight end!

Wouldn’t you want to keep something like that that on the “down low”?

HELL NO! We’re going public with it!

HILARIOUS. Only Richt. Only UGA.

34 damn years! No wonder!!

You think NICK MARSHALL’S a player?

Wait to you get a look at ANTHONY JENNINGS down at LSU! You can pull up a tape of him vs. Newnan and it’s unbelievable! Went 30 yards up the gut and juked the hell out of y’all’s free safety TRAY MATTHEWS. Newnan’s coach was quoted after the game: “IF THERE”S A BETTER QUARTERBACK IN THE STATE, WE DON’T WANT TO FACE HIM.”

Then he leads Marietta to the playoffs in the first time since forever, and throws a lazer for an 87 yard touchdown vs. Lowndes County (at Lowdnes by the way) and after it’s called back, does it again, this time for 92! Couple that with an 89 yard TD scamper and Lowndes Coach was quoted after the game: “HE’S EVERYTHING AND MORE THEY SAY HE IS.”

JENNINGS graduated early and participated in LSU’s spring practice. Was named TOP NEWCOMER at the conclusion of spring practice. He was coached at Marietta by Scott Burton, former QB coach at the University of Richmond. He’s just so advanced.

And get this: Anthony grew up a DAWG fan! His father Willie played at Georgia! And in spite of all of this, the Richt/Booboo braintrust don’t even offer the kid

Between JENNINGS to LSU, MARSHALL to Auburn, and Gainesville’s DESHAUN WATSON to Clemson. most schools would have had Booboo’s head, and probably Richt’s too. What do ya’ll do? Give ‘em both a raise!! Only UGA. Only the DAWGS. 33 years! Or is it 34? Jeepers. How do ya’ll stand it?

Hell yes he’ll start!

And the Richt/Bobo braintrust had him covering punts. No wonder it’s been 30 something years!

Geez!

Before all the haters get started with their revisionist history let’s set the record straight. Marshall wanted to play defense at UGA because he also wanted to play basketball and he knew that QB was a full-time position. I wish him nothing but the best at Auburn and from what I have seen from the other QB’s @ Auburn he should have a great chance to be the starter there.

Marshall will fit right in at the cow barn. If he can spell his name he will fit right in. We will see him in Dec. RollOn

In the past 2 years, auburn has scored 7 points on UGA. Maybe they can double that this fall.
