No time to waste for Robert Nkemdiche

Ole Miss coaches won’t wait to unleash Robert Nkemdiche.

They have been impressed with him through the first days of camp and are preparing the highly recruited freshman DE from Grayson to play against Vanderbilt in the opener.

Denzel Nkemdiche, who starts at linebacker for the Rebels, is glad to have his brother with him.

“It’s a big deal to me,” Denzel told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. “It’s an immediate source of encouragement and improvement between us two. If he’s doing something wrong, I pull him aside and tell him to fix that, and he’ll work on fixing that. It’s a direct effect.”

The Rebels open at Vanderbilt on Aug. 29, a Thursday night game that will be shown on ESPN.

Staying busy

Some coaches have found some extreme ways to fuel their competitive fire.

Vandy’s James Franklin jumped off a cliff into Tennessee’s Chickamauga Lake. Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck – the youngest coach in FBS — and his staff walked on fire last month. Louisiana-Lafayette’s Mark Hudspeth bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times.

And then there’s Washington State’s Mike Leach, who is teaming with a university professor to write a book on Geronimo.

  • LSU RB Jeremy Hill is back with the team. That didn’t take long. A judge decided not to send him to jail for punching a man last spring – a probation violation – and his teammates quickly voted him back on the team. Hill, Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard all return to the Tigers’ backfield.
  • Clemson wants to run more than 90 plays a game this year. That offense will be faster than that snail in “Turbo.” Take your kids. They’ll love it.
  • Butch Jones will turn Tennessee around, but maybe not until November. The Vols play Oregon, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama before November. If you haven’t noticed, those teams are ranked third, 10th, fifth, seventh and first in the preseason coaches poll.
  • Watch Western Kentucky and new coach Bobby Petrino – yeah, that guy — in games against Kentucky (Aug. 31) and Tennessee (Sept. 7). Petrino will develop a QB – he always does – and has RB Antonio Andrews back after rushing for 1,728 yards and leading the NCAA with 3,161 all-purpose yards in 2012.

Not a Dawg fan, and don’t believe ALL the SEC hype, but don’t believe in Clemons either. While Clemson has has some play makers, I think the Dogs running game will force Clemson to pull everyone up, and then Murray will have success over the top. I agree with most that UGA will score in the 30’s, but I don’t think Clemson will make it above 21. In fact, I say 34 – 17, UGA. Then I will pull for SC over the Dawgs the following week, and Clemson over SC at seasons end.

Poor Jeremy Hill…

Having LSU grads for Judges and getting his trial date moved up so that he wouldn’t have to miss the first day of practice puts him in a bad light. After all, he only sucker punched a guy while exiting a barroom. It wouldn’t have been a big deal were he not already on probation for statutory rape and banned from attending bars as a condition of his probation.

I’m confident that he’ll be on his best behavior, now that he’s been given a third chance. He said that he’s attending church now and plans to remain a role model for the kids of Louisiana. Lord knows, those kids need good role models.

UGA really needs Murray to play turnover free football vs. Clemson for us to pull that one out….i just dont know if he can…….if he can stay patient this year and not force the issue, UGA’s season could really be a special one

According to Zeier, Who spoke in Augusta last night at a Bulldog club function, Look for Bobo and Richt to run the ball a lot against Clemson and try to have 6 to 10 minute drives and keep the strength of that team on the bench, and our D fresh.
