Clayton hires new economic development director

Recently, our Board of Commissioners took a step towards moving economic development forward in Clayton county by hiring a deputy director who plans on undertaking many of the marketing issues residents often discuss.

Kevin Gullette brings 16 years of related experience to Clayton. He most recently served as Executive Director for the Stanly County Economic Development Commission in North Carolina, where he was responsible for the development of marketing, product development, and business retention and expansion strategies. Gullette was also the primary recruiter for new industrial and commercial development, where he successfully expanded three local industries which created over 120 new jobs and over $15 million in new investment.

“Clayton County offers so much potential for success,” says Gullette. “Home to the world’s busiest airport and the strategic logistics center for the southeast, Clayton County is the ideal place for companies looking for access into the global marketplace. I am excited and honored to be part of such a strong team of committed elected officials, development professionals and colleagues.”

What do you see as the most important aspect of improving economic development in Clayton?

Gullette’s initial plan of attack includes developing the county’s comprehensive incentive program, establishing a formal business retention and expansion program, lead efforts for a county branding exercise which includes new strategic marketing efforts, and calling on as many local companies as possible to get more involved with Clayton and its community.

“The [BOC] is strategically moving forward on expanding the county’s economic development,” adds Public Relations Officer Jamie Carlington.  “Mr. Gullette’s experience and connections will assist in ensuring Clayton continues to grow.”

From an economic development standpoint, what would you like to see happen in Clayton County?

Focus Group you’re right about us still paying big bucks for an ineffective director. My hope is since this new guy is white together Grant will be willing to work together and get stuff done as a property owner I’m trying to find any way possible to stay positive and hope TPTB fix this mess so I can sell and get outta here. I can’t change that the ineffective director is being paid but I can root for this new deputy to help the county turn a corner and make something good happen here. as someone else said he sounds good on paper but time will see if he ends up being the same ole same ole.

what happens next is that we see another example of blacks taking out blacks and other blacks relishing in the take down!!! the issue with this man was so inconsequential and no exchanges were made. why did this judge go there? why are the standards for blacks and the judicial system different in Clayton? don’t take my word for it check it out for yourselves.

all of you self-serving agents for the unrighteous will be exposed in the next election cycle and that is a promise. so get it while you can, your reign of terror on the black political community is about to end. the voters is not that ill-informed anymore.

the school system did not comment on John Walker – just that the incident was a personal matter. Yeah – right. I did not know there was a Black – good ole boy system. Should make that a good ole bro system. More politically correct and less insensitive.

What does Kevin Gullette’s race have to do with anything, as long as he is a honest- hard-working competent – public servant

No mention in the article about his salary. First thing you do to improve the county is get it’s budget under control, this is a stupid hire. 95% of the problems in the county are due to zoning and poor leadership. Only Clayton County would hire another technicrat at a triple figure salary while they are furloughing police and firefighters because the tax digest is spiraling downward. The next thing you will see is an announcement on the new Juvenile Court building, new Police building on the east side and new rec centers on the south side.

This is typical Clayton County

It seems to me that the BOC would focus on bringing qualified Blacks into county government. They lost a highly qualified Black to Forsyth County. Have they looked at the 2010 census? Are they afraid of hiring qualified Blacks from right here in Clayton County?

All these people crying foul about black leadership, while they put a corrupt governor in office, after the last unethical gubner. Leadership, blacks and ethics is the last thing they should be crying about!

WTF: “why are the standards for blacks and the judicial system different in Clayton?”

Yeah Right – what is happening in Clayton County is no where near the indifferences, atrocities and injustices that have happened to African Americans here in Clayton COunty and accross the Country in the judicial system.
Many whites have selective memory – when they don’t want to admit that there own kind has failed them and their family they simply pass the blame onto blacks. It was the good ole boy system and white leaders of the 80’s and 90’s who spearheaded the problems Clayton County see today – but many of whites don’t want to admit it. Many whites continue to believe and be fed the ‘white priviledge’ LIE by their own kind and need to wake up…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3Xe1kX7Wsc

Really WTF and all other Rethuglicans…Were 80% of the people of this county, state OR even country supposed to vote for a politician that has been federally investigated and forced out of Congress….http://www.ajc.com/news/georgia-politics-elections/federal-grand-jury-sought-579989.html
