Don’t put off til November what you can do on July 20!

There are candidates who could skate by without so much as a runoff since there are only two Republican challengers at the local level (District 4’s Lee Scott and District 77’s James Brown). So you may not get a second chance to vote if you don’t do so on July 20.

Voter turnout is historically low when a presidential candidate is not in the running, especially during the primaries. So, dare I say, your vote could literally make or break someone’s candidacy.

With so many candidates in the primaries, choosing can be difficult – and detrimental – if we choose wrong.  Especially at the local level – long time Clayton residents can attest to that fact.

Some helpful tools to decipher who should and should not get your vote are located right here at the AJC.  The Race for Clayton County School Board: A system in recovery is a helpful Q&A article showcasing some of our candidates for school board.

For more information on candidates in local and statewide races, you can also check out the AJC’s Voter Guide produced by the League of Women Voters of Georgia.

Will you vote in the July 20 primary?

Additionally, the Georgia Gang credited the AJC’s PolitiFact Truth-O-Meter on July 18 for helping to expose Rob Telihet’s faux campaign commercial discrediting Ken Hodges.

New candidates running for office in Clayton will either change the game entirely, or maintain the status quo under the incumbents. Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on your perspective. Stay tuned.

Come back after the elections to discuss the results, and how you think they could affect Clayton county’s future.

“Theirs not to reason why.” So we’ll go vote, even though the odds are pretty long, and our own political institutions conspire against us. The other 80-90% of our county won’t bother, so it’s up to us to stand up for the best interests of our county.

Did **every** Clayton County public high school land on the 2010 AYP “Needs Improvement” list? Every one of them?? This is crippling our county, but none of the institutional insiders seem to care.
Congratulations to so many of our elementary schools for making the “Distinguished” list for their progress in meeting tougher standards.

So now the day before the primary election, Lee Scott’s mongrels – those who do his bidding for money – are pulling up and stealing campaign signs of their opposition, and putting his own in place. If your ne’er-do-wells step foot on my land Lee, they will be in jail for trespassing and for stealing. I made a deal with those I support that these sign were my property as long as they were on my land. I will prosecute, old man. Oh yeah Lee – your signs are gone now , too. Have a good day – loser.

To stupidly vote just to get rid of incumbants is foolish and self-defeating. That is if your plan is to improve the county. There are good officials in place that should stay in the office they hold. There are others that should not. There are new individuals running that do not desrve our votes and are only there to enrich themselves.

Can I say I am surprised? No.

Without getting emotional let’s look at why some of same cast of characters got back in office.

STATE SENATE 34 – D Run off – Victor Hill / Valencia Seay – Who was more visible in that district? Who communicated more with the voters in that district?

STATE HOUSE 76 – D – Scott simply won because of name recognition and ignorant voters. I really question how the other candidates got their message out.

CC, D4 – R – Lee Scott – Who were the ignorant voters that voted for him? Hmmm.

CC, D1 – D – Singleton won ….tears. My dark horse for this election was Barbee. Ignorant voters, split votes & a lack of money and communication tools ie; internet, tv commercials may have hurt her. Couple that with some allegedly borderline illegal if not illegal actions by the Clayton Democratic Party ie; allegedly assisting voters in the district with absentee ballots and suggesting who to vote for and mailing off ballots for voters….cough!!

BOE D4 – D – Michael King simply won because his opponent waited too late to get his message out. King has been in that district for years and has been able to present the illusion of working for that community to the ignorant voters there by working with Tricky Ricky Scoggins and Wayne Hall painting themselves as the underdogs all the while they were doing dirt allegedly…cough! Kings opponent was very young and lacked true credibility in the community.

BOE D9 – D – Charlton Bivens/James Searcy – Run off. Bivens better get his act together or Searcy may snatch this one away. Searcy is a clear & concise communicator with the Synamon Baldwin/CCWHOA machine behind him (Not to mention ties back to Wade Starr). Although ineffective Searcy did a lot of work and was very visible fighting to keep accreditation during that debacle. Bivens you better get back on your ISH!! Show people what you have done while on the board.

Singletonn survives. None of her opponents articulated a vision, and none were willing to take on the larger issues holding the county back. Several candidates had their own ties to special interests which made those candidates suspect.
Michael King is re-elected, with a pitiful handful of votes, against only marginal opposition. A commission recommended reducing the school board from 9 seats to 5 (the same number as the county commission). There might be enough good candidates and enough voters to provide respectable vote counts in 5 contests county-wide. Maybe.

With the relection of Clayton County District One Commissioner Ms. Sonna Singleton, the three vote majority block of Vice-Chairman Wole Ralph, Commissioner Gail Hambrick, and Commissioner Sonna Singleton is intact and will be the SUPREME POWER AND AUTHORITY in Clayton County for the next two and one half years.

LIke it or not, they are the power in Clayton County and I sincerely hope that they will make decisions that will better this county, improve the nasty, dirty look of this county, and will change the image of this county for the better.

Chairman Eldrin Bell will continue to be a useless, powerless, and ineffectual figurehead with no power, authority, or command in this county because he not only does not have the votes to get things done (only he and Michael Edmondson are in the minority two on the Commission Board), he does not have the respect of his fellow commissioners, mainly because when he had the power and authority during his first term as Chairman (from January 1, 1995 To December 31, 2008) and the three vote majority, he did nothing to better this county, was disengaged, and essentially did not care about this county, and did not adequately supervise his department heads.

Chairman Eldrin Bell is partly to blame because of his sorry and ineffective first term in office, when Commissioner Gail Hambrick was elected as the District Two Commissioner in 2008 and when she began her term of office on January 1, 2009, the three vote majority of Vice-Chairman Wole Ralph, Commissioner Sonna Singleton, and Commissioner Gail Hambrick began and started immediately exerting their new found three vote majority power, authority, and might.

Like it or not, Vice-Chairman Wole Ralph is the “de facto” Chairman of Clayton County and is the Supreme Head Man of Clayton County whether or not one believes the scope, influence, and power that the Interim Director of Economic Planning and Policy and the Director Of Fleet Maintainence Wade Starr has over Vice-Chairman Ralph and Commissioners Singleton and Hambrick.

Clayton County Commissioner of District Four Michael Edmondson is also a Commissioner with no real power and authority on the Commission board and it does not really matter in the grand scheme of things in Clayton County as to whether or not he or Lee Scott wins because neither will have any real power or authority on the Commission board.

The District Four Commission seat only really matters to the people of Clayton County who lives in District Four.

This is the real truth and the facts in Clayton County and unless the “SUPREME THREE” of Vice-Chairman (really Chairman) Wole Ralph, Commissioner Sonna Singleton, and Commissioner Gail Hambrick do something illegal, violate any local, state, or federal laws which can lead to prison time, or can be recalled (this is extremely difficult if not virtually impossible to do because you must have a major reason to recall an elected official in the state of Georgia and must have air-tight, 100% proof with factual evidence that local, state, and federal laws were broken and must go through several hard, exhaustive, and details steps with petitions and the court systems of the county), THEY ARE THE MIGHT, POWER, AND AUTHORITY IN CLAYTON COUNTY, ALL MAJOR DECISIONS ARE MADE BY THEM AND THEM ALONE, CHAIRMAN ELDRIN BELL AND COMMISSIONER MICHAEL EDMONDSON ARE POWERLESS INEFFECTUAL FIGUREHEADS WHOS ONLY POWER AND AUTHORITY IS WHAT THE SUPREME THREE ALLOWS THEM TO HAVE, AND THIS IS HOW IT WILL BE IN CLAYTON COUNTY AT LEAST UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2012 (THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ELECTED INTO POLITICAL OFFICE IN THE ELECTIONS OF 2012 WILL NOT TAKE OFFICE UNTIL JANUARY 1, 2013).

THIS IS HOW IT IS IN CLAYTON COUNTY AND I ONLY HOPE THAT THIS WILL BE A POSITIVE, GOOD, SUCCESSFUL, AND PRODUCTIVE TIME FOR CLAYTON COUNTY THAT WILL LEAD TO A BETTER WAY OF LIFE FOR ALL OF THE CITIZENS OF CLAYTON COUNTY.

Third there are people that were on the school board that got a lot of kick backs and chosen to leave when questions were being asked about the money and left the others to take the fall and now one gets a school named after them, one got a GOOD paying job in the Governor’s office, and the other one got help moving to FL (well maybe that’s not that bad)? Political Realty; dictates actual reality! Barnes and Porter will win, Buckner riding on their coat tails “WON’T WIN”; her own will take her down; the “REPUBS”! They know she’s not trustworthy! SPECIAL NOTE: Bivens is OUT; bank on it!

Realty — so you saw your mistake – congratulations. R-E-A-L-I-T-Y. Reality is you are blinded by hate – not only for those others but for yourself and your lot in life. If you are content to only live in the past and dwell on past misdeeds. – you will wallow in nothingness. I am proud of the thousands upon thousands of young black students who are seeking and completing higher education – obtaining degrees and Masters, and PhDs. Those have learned to be responsible for themselves and not let the past or anybody – black or white – hinder them.

say what?

Shouldn’t Turner have his job back? I no longer see the community policing that he started. No more community meetings either. What is Robinson doing for us- that should be investigated.

Realty — you ever had a english composition class.- unclear structure – dangling participle, ending sentence with “of”. Tsk. Tsk.

The guy running for BOE – Searcy is a devotee of Miss Synamon and her group. The same ones that brought us the often unsteady Trinia Garrett. Bivens is the clear choice here.

DA – - No job is for life. True. But no job should be lost due to the underhanded political dealings like those of our 3 illustrious Starr pupils. The foolish voters of Clayton who put them in office – so they could “put it to the man” – too dumb to realize – that Clayton count, at over 85% black – they are the man. God is laughing.

Sure – you are someone who care only about themselves – and entirely apathetic about anyone else who lives.

James Brown

I am James Brown, a candidate for Georgia House District 77, which includes (mostly) Jonesboro & Riverdale proper and north Fayette County. I have never ran for political office in my life. Even though I’m the Republican candidate, I consider myself to be a Citizen Candidate. I am a Patriot, not a politician. However, I do feel I have the credentials that qualify me to be a citizen statesman to help turn things around for Clayton County. If you would like to know more about me please feel free to visit my website at VoteJamesBrown.com or ask people that know me. I WILL NOT be beholden to any lobbyists, and I agree to term limits on myself. In other words, I will set out goalls to help turn things around for the entire County (not just my district) and then get out. I am a promise keeper, and that is my promise.

The one favor I ask of you is please do not compare me to any other candidate running, whether it be someone else running on the Republican ticket, or the Democrat ticket. I have absolutely NO motives for running other than to do my best in turning things around for the district I live in and will serve.

I will not sling mud, nor will I allow to be categorized by anyone that does not know me. As for me being able to “skate by without so much as a runoff since there are only two Republican challengers”, I would have welcomed a primary challenger in my party. However, that has been the problem for an entire decade. Since redistricting in Clayton County, it has been written off and anyone else has always considered it a waste of time and money to run. As for me, I seek support from both parties parties, as I will be a lawmaker that will serve all the citizens of BOTH parties. Check me out and hopefully you will agree.

I am ready to serve and strive to bring some real hope and change to the area.

Thank you. (I am the real James Brown and I approve this message.)
