C-Tran riders leaving Clayton?

While many residents lamented the former police chief’s fate over the holidays, our Board of Commissioners were able to quietly fail to act on a resolution extending bus service.

At $1.50 per ride C-Tran is definitely the cheapest, but not the only form of public transportation available in Clayton county. Riders can still carpool, vanpool or ride the Xpress bus. So if you really enjoy living here there are alternatives, albeit more inconvenient and expensive ones. Hopefully affordable options are being explored for handicap and elderly riders after C-Tran’s demise.

I don’t subscribe to the “public transportation causes crime” theory. Those I know who have broken the law never claimed to use the bus or train as a means of escape. But since many riders have publicly stated that C-Tran isn’t worth a fare increase and federal funding is gone, where’s the money supposed to come from? There aren’t many Clayton residents who will agree to a tax increase for any reason, especially to financially support a bus system losing tons of money as is.

When C-Tran ends, will you

C-Tran service ends March 31, at which time the county still has to repay $2.1 million back to the federal government. According to the Clayton neighbor, Chairman Eldrin Bell believes operating this bus service contributes to the county’s economic growth and has stated all along that he will work to find a way to keep C-Tran running.

If you ride C-Tran, will you stay in Clayton county and find another way to get from point A to point B, or will you go elsewhere?

Some people do not get their education from blogs BnB. All that stuff you just said makes no common sense what so ever. What is your real problem with this commission and Wade Starr? What decisions are you talking about–the police chief? Is that what has a bee up your butt?

You want the thugs out…make it too costly for them. The reason they flock to certain areas id because things are cheap..Marts is and Ctran cost a dollar and change to ride…Xpress costs $3…thats a lot for a riff raff. Cheap housing etc.

Cobb has public transportation, but Cobb as sections that are affluent and they keep the rif rafs in a specific section Franklin RD etc. Clayton needs to expand its middle class….you have lake Spivey and you have Garden Walk and College park…you need an in betwenn

you have million dollar homes and $ 50,000 homes…..Where are the $250,000 and the $300,000 homes? Expand the middle class and reduce the lower class.

I’m glad they’re getting rid of the bus service. If it helps to improve that area, which is the first thing most see when coming into Clayton then hopefully it will help our image & be the start of better things to come for this county. And I agree with Solutions. The only reason lowlifes are here (not poor, but lowlifes) is because Clayton is affordable. We need to price the lowlifes out it’s the only way.

You’ll never expand the middle class in ClayCo until the schools show not just signs of improvement, they have got to shine. Local TV news reports have got to say “In Clayton County today all the kids got a great education and the parents are very happy”. That won’t happen soon enough for me. I think we should get rid of C-Tran and put the money into our schools. When I say schools I’m talking about the 3 R’s not dance, football and basketball.

To all those ignorant people such as Derek, DoubleAction and Michael who think that public transportation in the county brought crime and reduced the quality of living, I feel sorry for you and the ignorance you withhold.
What makes you think that everyone who rides a bus is a criminal.
For your information I am thankful for public transit, because it was able to transport me to college, when I freshmen and couldn’t afford a car yet.
I lived in Hillsborough County, in Tampa Fla., and public transportation has never been an issue there.
To signal out people and say that is insulting. When did diversity among a community become an issue??
Right now I am praying for those people who depended on transportation to get to work, and keep the income flowing in this county.
What makes you think crime will decrease, because C-Tran will stop its services. It will actually INCREASE because people will most likely be fired from their jobs, if they cannot find another source of transportation, and look for other alternatives to feed their families.
Stop being greedy and ignorant and think of the people who need the transportation to earn a decent living. Public transportation got me through my first year of college and now I am a professional, what do you think about that?!!

Clayton resident…..I sooo agree with you. We are attracting lowlifes. The county inherited a lot of them from the previous commissioners who made all they could off unsuspecting clayton residents and now our present leaders have the unpleasant task of trying to get rid of them. I do not believe there is another county who pays for more free lunches than this county because of this attraction. C-Tran was not brought in by this administration. Some of us long-time residents remember the reign of the good old boys plus Virginia. Check it out you have to play the hand you’re dealt.

What will it take….I think you’re right in your comments about BnB. There’s some serious hating going on for the commisioners, Cohilas and Starr. Everybody has a right to his or her opinion, but does it have to be the same opinion, no matter the subject matter? It appears that it’s all about trashing people rather speaking about the subject in this case “C-Tran”. I can’t wait to see C-Tran gone.

If you are a leader and you are breaking the law, you should be removed. If somebody doesn’t like the way you lead, then they should consider leading themselves. BnB sounds like somebody hurt your feelings………..You need a hug?

How did those morons let accreditation get taken…I mean you had ample warning. I would ahve done EVERYTHING in my power to stop it. Think of the affect on home values and the stigma? Trut be told…Atlanta and Dekalb have worst schools that CC..but the negative connotation that comes with “non accredited” makes it seem like we are worst. Dekalb has a few good schools like Chamblee High and the Dekalb school of the arts that off set the lesser schools like McNair or Cedar Grove. Clayton needs a diamond to shine amidst the lesser schools.

Why didn’t Eldrin take the guy from SACS to the Pink Pony and get him a few lap dances…He is good friends with the owner. You should have NEVER allowed that to happen.

Were do the Lake Spivey kids go..they all attend private school or something?

Clayton resident….I agree we don’t attract the best people. I believe we must hand out more free school lunches than any other county. This along with C-Tran was leftover from the previous administration. Some of us longtime residents still remember the good old boys plus Virginia. Well this group took all they could from unsuspecting residents and now they are living large. I believe at least one of those commissioners owns trailer parks and is stll profiting off low income people. The previous chairman retired away from the county and doesn’t care what’s going on now. It’s really a shame how they developed the community and now they’re out. Our new commissioners now have the task of trying to do what is best for the county. I think to be attacked personally is unfair to them. If you disagree with the leadership, then confront them and let them know what your issues are. If you feel you can do a better job, then campaign and leave it up to the voters, which is not that big a percentage anyway. Clayton county’s majority do not vote and this is a documented fact.I think you will find leading is not such an easy task.

What will it take…..I agree with you about BnB. This person has a deep hate for the commissioners, Cohilas and Starr. Sounds to me BnB you should go to these people and sit down with them for a talk. Your feelings must have gotten stepped on. Sometimes your views are kind of murky, but your hatred comes through loud and clear. Think BnB is short for baffled and badgered….need a hug?

to just saying — I am sorry if my comments actually require you to think a bit – did the brown shirt from Germany comments throw you. Go learn some history. Since you will not answer questions maybe someone can enlighten you. And I guess it is OK with you that the BOC did not go by its own rules to work on personnel matters as it should and instead do it in a public forum. If these cowards had the best for the county at heart – why did they not confront these supposed issues as they came up and not hold them and use them in a public ambush and character-lynching of a good man.

to MJ – since when has 80% majority electorate and elected officials ever been considered diverse.

to What and Just – I have watched Clayton for over 25 years and the bosses that run Clayton county – be they Bray and Griswell – or Lee Scott or Wade Starr – nothing has changed except skin color. Also my problem with the 3 stooges is not personal – I just cannot stand incompetance and that that they do not listen to their constiuents, just their own thirsts for control.

to Revenge – our Interim Police Chief, Fire Chief, and Transportation Director are bullying 18 year girls at BOC meetings – because they can. These people are not better that Lee Scott, when he would bully public servants and the citizens of this county – threatening them with the fact that he had a badge and a gun and that he could command his DA wife or Little Vic to arrest you.

I don’t have a problem with your right to speak. We can agree to disagree, that’s fine. Is there anybody you like besides Turner? Are you mad at the BOC for ruining your lovefest with him? So far things seem to be going smoothly since Turner was removed. The man still has a job and we don’t have all the facts out yet. You have more to say about it than he does. Why is that? If you want to be a leader step out and offer solutions. Commissioners are there because they campaigned and were elected. If you don’t want somebody elected don’t vote for them. Maybe you can be a commissioner if you take it to the voters. You call people cowards but right now you appear to be more of a coward than the people you are attacking personally. If anybody knows baffled and badgered please give him a hug.

Yes Victor did close massage parlors and that was a good thing for the county, but what else did he accomplish during his term? Besides accumulating lawsuits, that is. How long is he gonna ride the “I closed the massage parlors” gravy train?

Victor has cost this county a whole lot more than he gave back, not just in money but in image. We literally can’t afford to reelect him!

Again, I really hope and pray that (the majority of) Victor Hill supporters will leave this county along with the Ctran buses prior to but no later than March 31, 2010.

DA: “You are giving the people in this county a little too much they deserve. Victor Hill lost to Kem KeMBROUGH less than 2%; That means there are still a lot Victor Hill supporters out there.Only about 11 % percent of the registered voters showed up to vote, in that election.”

That also means that there are alot of voters who would not vote for him. You can’t assume that the 89% of people who did not turn out to vote are Victor Hill supporters. You can only assume that they don’t care enough to vote or get involved. One thing is for certain. They care more about electing a black national leader than they do about their own community. And therin lies the problem with Clayton County.

So Victor Hill let 20,000 warrants go – that is 20,000 criminals. For what – so he can shut down some “tension relief centers” and put a few dozen ladies out of a job. Yea – big crime shut down. It was while Victor was in the job, shining his gold rimmed hat, that I found plastic Crack bags along the county road near my neighborhood. Real effective law enforcement.

Victor did not get along with BOC because he hated Eldrin. Remember he was once Eldrin’s chauffeur.

And Victor got 49% of less than 15% of the registered votes in Clayton. Wow – now there is a mandate

@Jim Bob The massage parlors lined the Tara Blvd…it was an image thing more than anything…why so much in such a close proximity..were they trying to recreate Metropolitan.Stewart Ave ?

It’s a sad commentary when we come to expect and accept lawsuits not only from elected officials, but those appointed to office. This does NOT happen in other counties with any kind of regularity so why should we accept and expect it to happen here?

It does NOT have to be this way and we should not be so passe and accepting about lawsuits.

Victor Hill and Jewel Scott’s only claim to fame (using term loosely) are closing those massage parlors. I can’t name anything in particular Eldrin did, you’re right, but the costs for Eldrin’s suit against the BOC were free in comparison to Hill’s lawsuits which my great grandchildren will still be paying off (although hopefully they won’t live in Clayton!) We all know Eldrin was elected because he was the lessor of two evils, not because anybody likes him or the job he’s doing or has done.

You can’t seriously compare Eldrin to Victor Hill, but nice try to throw the stink off Victor. He either pays you well or you are Victor.
