Phil Carey, the actor who originated the role of family patriarch and ruthless billionaire Asa Buchanan on “One Life to Live” in 1980, died recently in his New York home after a battle with lung cancer.
On TV, Carey’s character died in August 2007, but the reappeared (as soap opera actors usually do) in video will and ghost scenes.
You can post your condolences in a guestbook
, but we would also like to hear some of your most memorable Asa Buchanan moments.

Phil Carey stole every scene he was in on the show. He will be missed.
Asa’s wedding to Alex was really memorable. I also loved his relationships with Max, Tina and Dorian.

Interestingly enough, I had a conversation with my grandmother last week in which I updated her on the status of ABC soap characters. I told her of Asa’s status, and she thought I was telling her that he’d actually passed on. “NO!” I replied as she questioned me –adding that ‘I would be sad if he were to die because he is one of my favorites’. Now I have to tell her that it’s happened exactly one week after I told her how I’d feel about it. Mr. Carey will always be remembered as a great actor. My most favorable memory of his character is the day he told Jessica that she’ll always be a Buchanan–especially because he was very exclusive with his club–this was a very powerful scene. I also loved the scene in which he told Blair that she’d actually gained a pile of poop in their divorce. In actuality, I love EVERY Asa scene. My condolences to the Carey family; Mr. Carey will always be my shining star.
