Wells Fargo shakes finger at ‘Harlem Shake’ YouTube video

Wells Fargo is getting a lot of interest on YouTube, but not because of its latest rates.

It appears Atlanta actors Emmanuel and Phillip Hudson, who have several hits on YouTube, managed to pull off a “Harlem Shake” video in a Wells Fargo bank lobby. The video,  “Emmanuel & Phillip Hudson – Harlem Shake @ The Bank,” was posted in early March and has been seen by nearly 150,000 YouTube viewers so far.

It’s the kind of attention Wells Fargo isn’t used to, or maybe even wants.

A spokesman for the Hudsons’ management company, Archive Entertainment, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the video involved about a dozen people and took about an hour to make shortly after the bank on Lenox Road in Buckhead closed on March 8.

Anwar Patterson said Emmanuel Hudson, who banks at the Wells Fargo branch, discussed the idea with a bank manager and both the manager and a district manager were “on board,” Patterson said.

A spokesman for the bank, however, would not say when or where the video was shot or how many “team members” were involved.

In a statement, the bank said, “”This was something that our team members participated in on their own time. It was not approved by the company and Wells Fargo did not produce the video.”  The bank did not say whether there were repercussions for the employees.

Patterson said he didn’t know how many bank employees participated. “I don’t know who was a bank employee and who wasn’t,” he said. “They came ready. Everyone had their own costume.” He also said he was told everyone from the bank involved in the video was suspended.

The video begins with a man, identified as Emmanuel Hudson, in a black tank T-shirt and black pullover mask, dancing in front of a “customer” who is not paying the dancer any attention. “Tellers” are seen in the background servicing other customers, but they also ignore the dancer.

All of a sudden, the video switches to a lobby full of Harlem Shake dancers: Emmanuel Hudson in dreads sitting on the floor with a pacifier in his mouth and wearing a diaper; Phillip Hudson in a Colt 45 beer costume;  a woman in military fatigues; two individuals in white masks; a man wearing a Santa cap; and others.

The name “Wells Fargo” never appears in the video. The only obvious giveaway is a quote on the wall in the background: “We have one very powerful business rule. It is concentrated in one word: courtesy,” spoken by businessman Henry Wells in 1864.

The “Harlem Shake” video was posted on YouTube the same day it was shot at the Buckhead bank. Patterson said the Hudsons’ next project is a YouTube video called “Church Folks,” which he said “drops before Easter.”

Everyone in that branch (Buckhead) that participated in that video is being fired. Way to go Wells Fargo!

A youtube comment says they were fired the next day…is that true? Also, I hear Wells employees are not suppose to have FB accounts. I’m sure the video didn’t go over well and heads rolled. Now if the employers who hire the ‘kids’ to run their business would realize there are professional unemployed workers out there that understand how businesses should be run….dress codes and all!

How does anyone know if it actually at the Wells Fargo? For all we know, they built a set and filmed it in a garage. It’s good natured humor that doesn’t degrade banking industry, other people or anything for that matter.

Looks like green screen to me. Random video of the inside of the bank, dancers filmed in front of a green screen like the weather man and layered over the bank video.

Seriuosly why is this being so blown up to such a big deal. Harlem Shake is the new thing and everyone is making videos. They are several banks on here with youtube videos….How is the heck can an employer tell you in you can or can’t have a facebook account. The world has bigger problems then making such a big deal out of social media….Look at the bright side the employees are showing that’s it’s fun to work for Wells Fargo….HA!HA!

Immediate termination, as it should be. Maybe Wells should start doing shake vidoes in front of the houses they foreclose on, if folks think the bank should not be upset, neither should the homeowners, right?
The entire phemonenon is stupid and should be punished severely.

LOL, that’s that sucktard bank for you. I wish this would be the worst of their infractions. Wells is a menace to society.

WF did a short sale on my house; otherwise, I’d probably never have gotten out of it. Per WF, I have no complaints…

This says alot about the type of people that Wells Fargo hire. I will never do my banking with Wells Fargo now. If I had accounts with them I would close them ASAP.

IT IS STUPID and IF it were shot in a bank , that was really ignorant——–with all the things going on in a bank that should not , this is one of them. Do not think some people were thinking

Anyone who has ever worked in a banking center finds NO humor in a masked person in a lobby. To say this was tasteless is an understatement. IF Wells Fargo did not fire management there and all participants who were staff, then they deserve to lose business over this.

Reading these angry and holier than thou comments from people who have no or minimal association with the facts shows why we only need gun control in the south….especially Georgia. The rest of us can have all the guns we want, because we’re sane. Lighten up folks…I hear blood pressure meds are expensive.

I don’t believe it’s a green screen since the beer guy moved the chairs and those are Wells Fargo chairs

Everyone typing with an angry tone about this need to get a life.

1. This video was likely shot during off hours while the bank was closed.
2. The employees did not feature the bank’s name (although they did allow the quote on the wall).
3. Everyone should not have been fired by default.
4. If #1 is true and anyone was present who was not an employee of the bank then whoever allowed unauthorized people in a secured facility should be fired.
5. All other employees should receive a negative write up for their employee record and a warning.

From a management perspective, firing this many employees and replacing them with “outsiders” is trading a group of employees who obviously get along and likely worked well together with potential headaches or under-performers as you cycle through applicants over the next few weeks or months.

That said, I would not participate in such a video at my job unless it was approved from as high up as necessary for all involved to be safe.

First of all this is a place of business & more important a BANK – not a play room. It is time for people to think before that act & if they lost there job, so be it. If they did not loss there jobs, I will be pulling all my account from them.

I may have to open an account with Wells Fargo after hearing this. I don’t know too many customers that would have enjoyed seeing that mess unfold in front of you at the bank.

Wells Fargo is poorly managed top to bottom in my opinion. A few years agao I tried to buy a short sale. They messed around and miscommunicated so much that the sale did not close. I found a better house for the same price. The short sale house eventually sold for $45K less tha I offered. Repeat that kind of mismanagement a few thousand times and you see why the whole banking industry got in trouble.

Those employees should be fired for agreeing to be a part of anything with Harlem Shake and anyone over the age of 15 who does the Harlem Shake should be sterilized for the sake of humanity’s future.

Who goes into a bank of any kind, wearing a mask and doesn’t get shot or arrested. Where was security? Who dances in the middle of anywhere and doesn’t get noticed? Nobody minds their own business anymore! Shame on everyone involved in this mess. They should call this the “Buckhead Shake” and they all should be fired. Enough is enough!!!

Beyond ironic if they were fired. With all the CRIMINAL activity that has gone unpunished in our banking industry over the past several years, not to mention just plain unethical – that this upsets bank management is – as I said – beyond ironic.

These are latest bunch of disrespectful and ignorant CLOWNS just like all of the other Harlem Shake Video posters. It’s very insulting to everyone from Harlem, New York City where the true Harlem Shake dance originated thirty-two years ago (1981).
