Wells Fargo rolling out new ATMs

Wells Fargo & Co. has begun rolling out new ATMs that feature personalized screens based on customers’ past transaction habits, the company said Tuesday.

So far 500 of the new ATMs have been installed – none so far in metro Atlanta -  but all of the  more than 12,000 new machines will be in place by May. The company said it will be an entirely new ATM banking experience and Wells Fargo is “the first and only bank to offer this service to its customers.”

The new ATM screen’s layout will be personalized with an immediate snapshot of account balances in one corner. A “cash tracker” allows customers to track monthly withdrawals and set withdrawal targets. Other dashboards make it easier to make withdrawal or deposit transactions based on previous actions.

“We redesigned our ATMs based on what customers tell us they want, and we’re constantly striving to make our ATMs quicker, easier, and more convenient,” Alicia Moore, head of Wells Fargo ATM Banking, said in a statement.

The new ATMs aren’t expected in Georgia until early May, a spokeswoman said. Wells Fargo customers will be able to make unlimited transactions free of charge.

In an American Banker interview,  Moore said some of the latest ATM technology comes from NCR and some is provided by Wincor Nixdorf. The trade publication also noted that Wells Fargo “has long been an early adopter of new ATM technology — it was the first bank to convert paper check deposits to images, and last year became one of the first banks to allow simultaneous “mixed media” deposits of cash and checks.”

Oooh good. Now the person getting ready to mug us can see how much we have in the account rather than the bland rectangles asking how much money we’d like to withdrawal.
But in all honesty, I’d rather have an interest rate on savings accounts that is higher than .02% than have that money invested into ATM’s that tell me what I already know. Who are these people wanting a fully interactive ATM?

That’s spot on Mangler…its the first thing I thought. Seeing that amount on the home screen might be incentive for a stick-up artist to be a little more aggressive than they normally would be. Didn’t WF just update all their ATM’s a year or 2 ago?

Ditto to Mangler. Also, I didn’t read how many tellers they are going to fire. These “to serve you better” changes always result in folks losing their jobs. I know full well because I was in banking for over ten years and saw lots of very good banker friends get the ax. Then, I wised up and left banking myself before it left me. Isn’t mega bank consolidation great?

just sayin'

They should give the user the option of having those accounts and other info displayed on the screen.

Why are they fixing something that’s not broken and adding features most of us don’t want? SMH

They had to do something since they have upped the account balances now needed for free checking. Auto depo doesn’t trigger it anymore.

And why did they remove the ATM in the parking lot at Cherokee Plaza (across the street from a branch that has an ATM). It was used often esp when the bank’s one was not working or there was a line 4 cars deep! Service? What is that? (Their new motto!)

I’ve used an ATM two, perhaps three, times during the 40+ years I’ve had bank accounts. The last time had to be ten or more years ago.

All of my banking transactions are face to face with the very nice tellers @ the WF branch I use. Much rather they have a job than some soulless machine.

You know you’re in Atlanta when such business trivia as new ATMs is printed in the newspaper and it’s not a paid ad.

Oh,great! This is not only a waste, but now it will take some even longer to figure out the ATM while the line of cars behind them gets even longer. Didn’t Wells Fargo recently make changes to their ATM? This is pure LUNACY!

I guarantee you that there is some kind of advertising that will be on the screen that Wells will be getting paid to show to us each time we use the ATM.
I happen to like using atms and my deposits show immediately when I use the atm vs when I go into a branch.

CRAZY! will there be any security features on this ATM/ and if so, what good would it do if a robber is standing behind you? They will already see your balance!! How wasteful!! It’s going to take so much more time trying to figure out!! I agree, I want Wachovia back!!! Or some other bank that is really for the “Customers”

Have they thought about a black protective screen being put over the outside of the atm machines so if there is anyone behind you in line they will not be able to see what your balance is. It is definitely more secure as well as another option.
