Sabans’ Lake Burton home up for sale

Looking for a weekend getaway retreat? There’s one available. But it will help to have won a college football national title or three to be able to afford it.

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and his wife Terry are trying to unload their manse in Lake Burton, The Wall Street Journal reports.

And what a spread it  is. With 10,000 square feet, six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, it features a wine cellar with antique gates from Barcelona,a grand room with a 24-foot vaulted ceiling, a European-style custom-built pub, a billiards room, a home office, formal and professional kitchens, staff quarters and four-car garage.

The price: $10.95 million.

They planned to use the spec house for family, but changed their minds when another lot became available, the paper reported.

The Sabans aren’t the only coaching couple with a pricey home on the market. The article mentions others who’ve left town and their swank properties, either to take a better job elsewhere, or to take any job elsewhere after they’d been run out of town.

Among them: Former Florida boss Urban Meyer, now at Ohio State; former Michigan head man Rich Rodriguez, now at Arizona; and ex-Illinois coach Ron Zook, now in TV and living in Florida.

Each left behind some pretty palatial pads when they relocated, and they’re hard to sell because of their prices.

Said Terry Saban, “If you win, you move, and if you lose, you move.”

…the Saban’s like better still at Lake Burton? (and down the hill from the bankrupt Water Fall compound)

Maybe he needs a bigger place to meet with recruits to advise them which high school to go to in order to get a high school degree!

Lake Burton is the nicest lake I have been on in this parts. Pretty fun to rent a boat and enjoy the scenery. Some of those boat houses are nicer than my house. :)

I’m interested—will Nick consider $10.5 million for this place?

This is not news. This home has been on the market for a year. They purchased a vacation home in Boca Grande, also known as Gasporilla Island near Port Charlotte, FL and Punta Gorda, FL in
December 2011. There are numerous wealthy people there.

The house for sale is “The Point” on the East side of Lake Burton, which is a spec house built by Saban and his builder that built Saban’s mansion on the west side of Lake Burton that is NOT for sale.
