Looks like the new iPhone will make its debut next week.
Apple has invited the media to a Sept. 12 event with the notice “It’s almost here” and the big number 12, various media are reporting, including The Associated Press.
The event, which will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern time, will be held in San Francisco.
The Wall Street Journal reported last Friday that one of the new features will be a slimmer screen that integrates the touch screen with the LCD, thus eliminating the need for a separate touch screen layer.
According to CNET.com, the announcement about next week’s likely iPhone unveiling may confirm another recent rumor, which is that Apple will hold a separate event next month to debut a smaller version of the iPad.
Apple has been busy. While it preps for the new iPhone unveiling, it’s trying to cripple its biggest competitor, Samsung, by demanding that a federal court ban a ton of its phones and tablets from the U.S. market after Samsung lost a patent infringement lawsuit filed by the iPhone and iPad maker.

Hey phone geeks, spare us your Apple = garbage comments. Those of us with lives don’t give a flip what you think nor do we care to hear you pathetically try to convince us how cool you are. Go get outside and find something in your life more meaningful than your compter screen.

so can someone tell me what there is to get excited about? How much different will the iphone 5 be from the 4S, other than being thinner with 4G? Will it still have the same boring grid layout since 07?

kplod – nothing is for certain, until they announce it the 12th. Highly likely though, based on rumors, to have 4″ screen, thinner, 4G LTE, and very similar design to the 4/4S now. Might be more hardware-wise that I missed, but those are the main differences. I’m sure there will be something else added at the announcement, that hasn’t been “rumored”
They’ve already shown previews of the new OS version. Lots of new features, but by and large the same look/feel as it has had for some time now.

whoopeedoo. It will finally get 4g, gets a stretched screen, same width, just longer, looks funny. Same basic grid, anything Google will be stripped out and any app for it will be a pain cuz that’s how apple wants it. Oh, new cable connector, so forget about all your old iWhatevers things working with it. HAHA, apple’s got you by they buds

It’s a phone for God’s sake! OK, OK….it’s also a crappy little computer. What we should worry about is the cell companies funneling everyone into a smart phone with a $$$ price tag on it. I looked at the “Free” phones on my carrier the other day and there was one (1). The rest were refurbed smart phones with the required data plan. If your ISP is also your cell service provider your data usage should come out of the ISP allotment. The way it is, you’re being tagged twice if your ISP & cell provider are the same.

Really folks? It is worth pulling out the big guns of name calling to bully people about excitement over a phone? If iPhone was not coming out with a new phone, you would be complaining about that, and if there were not competition, it would not be the American way. Please, please, please let us discuss important issues, with an open mind and not reduce our intelligence by calling people names and deingrating the product. We are all entitled to an opinion, we just don’t always have to speak itl

So far the feature list is:
longer screen, new connector, possibly 4g, thinner screen which allows for thinner phone. slightly faster processor. Am i missing something? I’m not even being sarcastic right now someone please tell me where the innovation is.
As a consumer, i love competition. I am looking forward to Windows Phone 8 to bring something new to the table. Apple has done absolutely nothing outside of a courtroom for the entire year.

Funny to read how we get into a dither about stuff. This is newsworthy when 10 to 15 million units will sell before the end of this quarter. If it’s a non-event and if Apple is the scourge of the world, how did they go from near extinction into THE technology center of the universe?
Got a feeling several of the negative posts are just posting for the sake of being devil’s advocates.
Good to see the new product coming – sorry the world doesn’t revolve around Microsoft and IBM anymore – plus, I can’t wait for the announcement about the smaller iPad – that should be fun!

jw,
You criticize people that question Apple, yet don’t even realize that without these criticisms, there is no Apple. We would still be in a world dominated by MS. Windows was awesome but there was still room for improvement which allowed competitors to jump in. Apple is becoming worse than MS ever was in their corporate strategies. People are starting to see it. I hope Apple doesn’t continue down that path.

Who the hell cares about another “electronic gadget” with little or no benefits. I am sick and tired of grown folks playing with toys and acting like their children. For example I hate to see men and women talking and texting all the time. People who exhibit this behavior are usually lonely, insecure or have a hidden disability (ADHD). What these techno idiots need to do is go outside and play and get some excercise. Ladies, let this be a warning. If you see a man who is constantly talking and texting and acting like a woman he is probally gay or on the down-low. Beware.

Samsung all the way!!! Screw apple! Try to mess with the foreign guy, instead should try to mess with google where the hardware for Samsung phones come from! Steve Job took idea from Microsoft so he should have understood how it was to take an idea from a different company and make it better, which Samsung did with Apple. I hope Samsung screws Apple in the end!!!

When I first downloaded Apple software to my computer 7 or 8 years ago and it hijacked all my other preferred settings, I realized this was not a company I wanted anything to do with… I’ve been a non-Apple person ever since. It’s amazing to me how many people are too ignorant to understand or see the control this company has over their lives. It’s not that I feel they offer a poor product, far from it, however when a company becomes so “powerful” that it can and does steal personal information, they should be avoided. Good luck to those of you who own any Apple product and wish to maintain your privacy.

Note to Iphone critics: Apple is the wealthiest corporation in the history of planet Earth.
Don’t you think they got there by creating good products?
Whatever phone you have it is most likely a “smartphone” Apple created the “smartphone” with the first Iphone.
Samsung? They COPIED the Iphone. That’s against the law. I would think that American’s might support an American company against foreign companies who steal.
But little minds can only think in small ways.
Keep whining while the rest of us enjoy Siri and the amazing Iphone.

There were smartphones before the iphone which Apple copied also. Apple is an American company in name only. Its product are made in China and it hides its profits over seas in order not to pay taxes in America.

apple doesn’t hide any more money than any other multi=national firm. The laws of the US are what they are. Don’t like the laws change them, don’t blame people for taking advantage of them. You do when you do your taxes. What person writes a bigger check than necessary?
No android compares to apple’s products. I’m a developer I work with both and many models. If you aren’t sold yet, try an apple first.

The only reason I have a cell phone is so if I am held up the bandit won’t get mad. But I guess I’ll have to get a pacifier to play with standing in line to get my drivers license renewed. Do these produce phones work with T Mobile? If so how much more moola would I have to provide to connect to the internet using 4G?

I feel bad for Robert, jealousy is that of the devil. And Paul, I feel what you meant but it seems that others can’t quite read well enough. The iPhone is only a couple hundred bucks, who cares. Buy one or not, I’ll be buying one 10 fold. I enjoy the feeling and weight of Apple’s iPhone and holding a Droid based phone typically feels cheap let alone the OS being an eye soar within the menus. If you don’t enjoy Apple, please bully us all into thinking like you! We like it!

This list of reasons to not use Apple is long, but to most they don’t understand half of the list. Reason enough for me is the fact they took 8 month to patch a java virus everyone knew about. They waited because “it wasnt a problem” and they feel they must control everything rather than letting sun push out the patch. Meanwhile, millions of machines were infected. 750k was the peak number – machines were healed while others were infected for an 8 month period. MS is awesome at patch management and pretty much runs most of the world’s servers because they’re that secure. Freaking techtards..
