While chickens are running for the hills and competitors are turning green with envy, Chick-fil-A accountants have to be giddy over Wednesday’s packed restaurants as patrons bought chicken sandwiches in droves to show support for company President and COO Dan Cathy.
The question now is whether there will be a repeat of the crowds Friday when gays and lesbians are expected to turn out for a “National Same-Sex Kiss Day” to protest Cathy’s recent warnings that the nation is “inviting God’s judgment” because it is trying to “redefine” marriage as anything but being a union between and man and woman.
The Atlanta-based privately held company said it had a record sales day Wednesday, though it didn’t provide specifics Thursday in comments to the AJC. “While we don’t release exact sales numbers, it was an unprecedented day.”
As for the fallout over Cathy’s recent comments, the company earlier said, “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”
Thousands of people in metro Atlanta and across the nation packed restaurants for Wednesday’s “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” led by former presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas governor told Fox News the day’s success went beyond “anything I could have imagined.”
Huckabee also said he doesn’t oppose Friday’s protest, “As long as they’re orderly. As long as they don’t disrupt the flow of customers and traffic,” he told Fox.
Friday’s “Kiss Day” is being sponsored by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which has called for a boycott of Chick-fil-A not only for Cathy’s comments but also for the millions of dollars GLAAD says Chick-fil-A, through its WinShape philanthropic wing, has donated to groups that lobby against legalization of same-sex marriage. In its “Skip the Sandwich” campaign, GLAAD wants patrons to take the $6.50 they would pay approximately for a meal and donate the money to gay and lesbian rights groups, and post “Kiss Day” pictures on the Internet.
Even some of Chick-fil-A’s competitors appear to be trying to catch some of the attention. According to CNN, some Wendy’s franchises in the Carolinas erected signs outside their restaurants that said, “We Stand With Chick-fil-A.”

Why do homosexuals hate Christians hated for standing by Biblical values they hold ?
Its simple………….b/c they want to change the definition of marriage.
2 gays can form a civil union………….but that is not a marriage.

Being gay is wrong. They know it is wrong. They want the Christians to tell them its ok to ease their conscience. But we are not going to do it. If you are a christian you are against it. If you are not against it you are not saved. Jesus is the same Yesterday,Today,Tomorrow, Next Week,Next Month,Next Year,Next Century

I met 21 lesbians at a party when I was in art school. They were all clustered together chatting amongst themselves. I engaged them in conversation because: 1 I am a curious person, 2 I like the opposite and wondered why? They were very nice and spent some time in discussion. 21 out o 21 women said they chose the life because down to the last very single one had been sexually abused as a child or violently abused by heterosexual men in their families. This was before the big push for political power so I can’t discount a genuine honest answer given prior to ths big push.
At one time the CDC published their findings related to aids studies and found the average soul partners of a homosexual man was over 500. Psychologists pinpointed over bearing hateful mothers as a motivator of hatred for women that often shows up in the male homosexual. Gay parades appeared to be entirely devoted to the disply of a disapated party lifestyle, and maybe Hollywood displays stereotypes of homo lifestyle so tht it is hard to see truth. One last lesbian I personally know engages in the lifestyle and yet hates it herself, she states began when her aunt crawled into her bed and molested her for years. Throughout history homosexuality and pedestary were synonymous and I know to much about human nature to believe for a second anything about that he changed. From parks that are tryst locations for strangers to airport bathrooms, little about the behavior and historical practice convinces me that this is just about political power and legal access to children. I believe in the freedom in adults to choose their life. I believe when ome one is doing their job there should be no discrimination. I know there are as many sick gruesome murders commited by homosexuals as there are against them, the press is dishonest on this point. the hate and targeting of businesses by homosexuals shows the intolerance of the homosexual power structure who seek to force their views every bit as hateful and violently as ever the catholic church tried in their violent history. Because “born that way” is a gaga song and not truth, and because you are unwilling to exist with people in peace whose views are different from your own you are loosing my support to believe its about marriage. The claims of hate are being lobbed by the haters. Criminalization? I think you refer to Africa? That an ENTIRE other discussion. So many more people would be open to dialog without the lies. Targeting people who disagree with you doesn’t help your case it damages it. I can’t honey see how a chicken sandwich threatens you. Way too long for a post! I wish you peace.

Damn Bible Beaters! People need to be more accepting and not look down upon others. Doesn’t it say in the Bible “we are all created equal”? Marriage is different for everyone. I wonder what Dan Cathy thinks about Indians arranging marriages for their children? What people do behind closed doors is their business. If they want to get married, then let them do it! Who are we to say “God” said so. Last I checked, God has never spoken a word. People wrote 1,000’s upon 1,000’s of books about mythology. Should I believe he was the “Father of Gods and Men” and the god of the sky and thunder? I guess you can call me a skeptic because I don’t believe in things purely on “faith”, only what can be proved by science

For all the Bible quotes this country is the United States of America not the United States of Baptists. That being said, Mr. Cathy has every right to say and do whatever he pleases with his business and people have the right to not patronize his facility. I think banning his father’s restaurants from cities is un-American. Against gay marriage? Don’t marry someone of the same sex. Against Chic Fil A? Don’t eat there. It’s when we start legislating against people who do not believe as we do that we stop having true American values.

I’ll make my stand with the Cathys and the Bible.
•Lev. 18:22, “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.”
•Lev. 20:13, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them”
•1 Cor. 6:9-10, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”
That’s good enough for me, Homosexuals are mentioned several times in the Bible none favorably, homosexuals are not mentioned at all in the Constitution So I’m led to believe that there’s no protection nor approval. Seems queer to me that so much hate and discontent is being brought forth over something that’s clearly covered in the Bible. I read what dan Cathy said there was no hatred in it and I’m sure that if gays go to Chik Fil A they’ll be served with the same respect and service as any other patron, so I really don’t get what this is all about If the Gays were as tolerant as they expect others to be this would be a non issue. Many of us watching this insanity unfold are rapidly learning to hate.

When the Bible was written 1,000’s of years ago people needed to reproduce to save mankind. Maybe that was the reason it was shunned back then? It’s a good start but we can’t abide by something that was written more than 2,000 years ago.

I can’t really say what is on my mind. I fear the repercussions from the so-called righteous Christians, so I can’t speak my beliefs as boldly as Mr. Cathy did. I think both sides look like a bunch of a$$ clowns. Cathy said he supports traditional marriage. Period. He didn’t say he was firing every gay person that works for Chik-Fil-A, etc. He just doesn’t approve of gay marriage. I don’t understand being gay either. Can’t comprehend it. But I don’t care. We have more people in this country concerned about visiting Chik-Fil-A on Aug 1 or Aug 3 to do one of two things: 1) Visit Aug 1 to “support Chik-Fil-A”- wow- what a money making scam that has become- and Cathy didn’t invision this! or 2) Visit Aug 3 to kiss in front of a Chik-Fil-A to show how prideful you are. Outside of Mardi Gras, I don’t know if there is ANY event that a bunch of folks attend that aren’t gay who think it’s wonderful to kiss in public. That doesn’t prove your love anymore than getting married (since everyone thinks the Kardashian girl is a poster child for it and throws it in traditional marriages’ face- as if Cathy approves of that over gay marriage)
Both are a waste of time. Who cares? Again, we have more problems to deal with than who’s gay, what they are doing b/c they are gay, why they are gay, etc. GET OVER YOURSELVES.
I haven’t met one person yet who disapproves of the gay lifestyle who doesn’t have 1-2 family members who are gay, and they tolerate that family member (or 2, or 3, etc.).
I guess the thing is, if you don’t support gay marriage, but you showed up for Thanksgiving and two family members were gay, do you think it is respectful to ram it down their throat and let them know how awful they are? Would it be respectful for the gay couple to make a scene at Thanksgiving? Nope. So why do it in public amongst a bunch of people you don’t know and make an a$$ out of yourself?
In neither case is the other turning the other cheek and taking the high road- which is what the right thing to do is. Nope. gotta show how much of a stand we take.
To think, we have people who are poor, suffering, can’t pay medical bills, need a break, elderly who need someone to either visit them or grocery shop for them, etc. . . . . . yet we’d waste our hard earned $ and time over this instead of showing up at chik-fil-a this week to support a “cause”. And I guess it’s b/c it’s easier to do this than to give the money to someone who truly needs it. Because if we all did this instead of grandstanding over gay marriage, then we might actually help folks get off wellfare, pay down some medical bills, etc and do the right thing for humankind. I think Dan Cathy would rather we do this than waste our time fighting over this. We’ve made him a martyr for an opinion that people either have and don’t have, and he ain’t the govt. And yes, he got his free speech and now he has the backlash.

I support Dan. Cathys right to free speach. Perhaps the lesbian & gay community should exercise the same tolerance they ask of The Cathy’s & chik Fil A. I suspect the Bible supports his opinions as well.
Really folks, it isn’t necessary that we all believe in the same GOD, religion, or sexual preference. Let’s just be kind, loving and considerate of everyone. If everyone would start being this kind of person forgetting, sexual preference, color, religion, etc. wouldn’t it be a wonderful world?
Just because someone states an opinion doesn’t mean everyone has to agree. BUT everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don’t particulary care of Ellen Degeneres but it has nothing to do with her being gay. I just don’t find her humor very funny, same as Ben Stiller. But again that is only my opinion I don’t try to tell people to hate them or boycott their movies, shows, etc. It is like noses-everybody has one!
In the end of life everything comes down to one thing…your own relationship with your maker, whoever you believe it to be.
Peace!

the boycott won’t work, especially in the South, if the gay community hopes to push them out of business.
also, what about the CFA Bowl and Kickoff Classics? will they be boycotted? what about ESPN and ABC who pay money to CFA to show the games? are ESPN and ABC gay hating bigots as well because they give money to CFA who in turn donates what in short comes out to less than 1% of profit to a group you don’t like? at what point does this become pointless?
I’m a Christian who think gays should be allowed the right to divorce at the same current 50 percent rate as straights….at this point, we should all be worried about our own marriages than who others marry.
but i am totally for not being persecuted for personal beliefs. the boycott of this for personal beliefs, and especially the “ban” of the restaurants out of cities, is constitutionally WRONG. if you want to not go because you feel like your money goes to the wrong causes, fine, but remember that CFA also creates parks, homes, and scholarship funds for people who probably couldnt give a rats behind about this issue and would rather have an opportunity to a roof over their head or education.

I seem to recall there was a lot of regional support for Walgreen’s lunch counters back in the 60’s as well.
