When it comes to major metropolitan areas, Atlanta ranks No. 2 in job growth, according to a new study by Arizona State University.
Only Houston beats Atlanta, according to researcher Lee McPheters, whose findings are based on the latest jobs figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Atlanta had 3.1 percent job growth between January 2011 and January 2012, compared with Houston’s 3.7 percent growth. The figures reflect non-agricultural job growth among populations of at least a million workers.
Rounding out top job-producing metro areas were Denver (3), Dallas (4), Seattle (5), Cincinnati (6), Phoenix (7), Riverside, Calif,, and Tampa (both tied for (8) and Pittsburgh (10).
The research supports a growing consensus that the gradually improving economy is fueling job growth across the country and in Georgia.
A recent Manpower survey of 140 Georgia employers found that 20 percent plan to hire more workers in the second quarter, while 69 percent plan to maintain current levels.
Overall, the U.S. economy added 1,986,000 jobs between January 2011 and January 2012, a 1.6 percent increase, McPheters said. An overwhelming majority of the jobs were created in the service sector.
While Georgia was not among the top 10 job-producing states, McPheters noted the state recorded 7.13 percent job growth in the professional and business services sector. That represents 37,000 new jobs.
Among states, job growth was highest in North Dakota, West Virginia and Utah, but as the researchers noted, because those states have small populations, small increases in the number of jobs created can amplify percentage gains.

Sorry that you were, not old enough tto remember the alleged presidency of our own peanut-sized-rainless gift to America: James Earl Carter.

Go online and find out about other “news” outlets other than FOX NEWS and CNN. You’ll see that roughly 88% of political contributions from supposedly impartial network TV reporters, producers and other employees in 2008 went to (surprise!) Democrats?
Who can we trust? Al Jeezera Network? socialist times? Pravda? AFL-CIO Daily News? Move-On.Org? Huffington Post? These are about all the RIGHT-wing outlets I can think of. Please share others with me and those on this blog who care.

It’s beginning to feel like Greater Atlanta is coming back. I’ve been noticing more out-of-staters moving to Atlanta, help wanted signs starting to appear in shop windows, retail construction starting and a few houses being built in shuttered subdivisions. Great news.

You know when you read a good piece like this you attitude toward it and the writer will take on your unique perspective. Some folks will see great hope in the future, some will see it right here right now and others will whine because they didn’t see anything because the money was not there to their liking at the time.. Obviously we would all like to be richer than what we are but wait is that all there is to go after. How about feeding your families, paying your mortgage or rent, or other expenses. Taker what you can get and work from there..Thank you to all who contributed to this upsurge.

It is funny that piece was done after a visit from Obama. I saw the piece as a re-election advertisement, and like this administration has done many times, not actually true.
