The American offshoot of a U.K. business that specializes in insuring pets, gadgets and trips has established its headquarters in Atlanta.
Protect Your Bubble, a unit of Assurant Direct, launched Tuesday in Midtown and plans an advertising and marketing blitz to familiarize consumers who think of insurance only when it comes to life, auto, home and health coverage.
“We’re positioning ourselves as a niche insurance brand covering those smaller things that have become so important,” said Stephen Ebbett, president.
The company sees potential in the U.S. market. For example, Ebbett said only about one percent of Americans who own pets have insurance on them.
Protect Your Bubble will offer a pet care policy that will cost about $350 a year, Ebbett said, with 90 percent of vet fees covered.
The price to cover replacement of a lost, stolen or damaged smart phone of any brand will be $7.99 a month, he said, with a $100 deductible for a smart phone and a $125 deductible for an iPhone. Tablet coverage will run $9.99 a month, with a $75 deductible.
Protect Your Bubble plans to differentiate its gadget insurance by offering 24-hour replacement service.
Travel insurance starts at $13.99 per trip, with the price varying depending on the value of the excursion.
Privately-held, Protect Your Bubble would not release revenue goals.
Ebbett said the company opens with 12 employees here, but that the number should grow. Atlanta was selected because of assets including its airport, universities and talent pool, he said.
