Want to experience Linsanity at Philips? It’ll cost you

The biggest socio-sports story of the year (now that Tebowmania has cooled a bit) is the coming out party of Harvard grad Jeremy Lin whose ascent to stardom as a point guard for the NBA New York Knicks has  been noted and celebrated everywhere lately, and we do mean everywhere.

Lin’s Ivy League educational background, Asian-American heritage  and out-of-nowhere success on the hardwood have turned the unknown into an American sensation in a flash. Playing in the biggest market in the country  in front of the  New York media hasn’t hurt.

Atlantans can get a TV look at Lin tomorrow night when the Hawks travel to New York for a game against the Knicks.

But if you want an up-close view of the phenom, you’ll have a chance  late next month when Lin and his teammates come to Philips Arena for a game Friday March 30.

Yes, seats are still available. But don’t expect any bargains.

A check of the Hawks website as well as the online ticket brokerage StubHub shows sufficient supply, although not at cheap rates. The lowest price listed at the club site is $55, with most tickets running $70, or far more.

On StubHub, the cheapest ticket, in the upper bowl behind the baseline, commands $60. They go up from there, of course.

By contrast, an upper bowl baseline seat for a game the week before against the Utah Jazz is going for only $5 at the site. That’s a pretty common price on the secondary market this time of the year for a less popular opponent.

But Lin is no common opponent, and  Linsanity has its price.

HmmmI don’t think so. A few bad games and the hype will wear down. He’s good, but not $$$$ good.

IT IS A SHAME THAT THE ATLANTA HAWKS WILL DO INJUSTICE TO THEIR HOME FANS THEY SELL YOU THE VISITING TEAM, BECAUSE THE HAWKS DONT SELL, MY ADVICE TO THE FRONT OFFICE OF THE HAWKS BUILD YOUR DAMN TEAM, AND YOU CAN BE CONSISTENT ALL YEAR WITH FAIR PRICES TO THE FANS, THIS IS FRAUD ON YOUR PART OWNERSHIP ,SPEND MONEY ON THE TEAM ON THE RIGHT PLAYERS ,FIND OUT HOW TO RUN A TEAM AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO SELL THE VISITING TEAM TO THE FANS OF ATLANTA OR JUST SELL THE DAMN TEAM, WE ARE TIRED OF THIS ON THE JOB TRAINING FRONT OFFICE

Those prices are not what Atlanta fans are willing to pay for NBA action. Linsanity or no. I may go to the game but I will be buying from a scalper after tip off and I expect that the $5 range is more realistic. You can’t gouge your patrons, they simply won’t stand for it. Additionally in a little over a month Lin will be the same awesome player but he will also be “old news.”

Nice try Phipps but it aint gonna work.

Some of the more famous NBA players are angry that Lin is getting all of the fanfare. It’s because he is Asian, and no one expects it from him. He is really good and is making tons of money for New York, and other cites that he plays in with his team. I am happy for him, because this time last month he was sleeping on his brothers’ couch with no contract and no future in Basketball. You go Lin!!!
