T.O.: Broke, lonely, “in hell”

Atlanta-connected former famous footballer Terrell Owens is in the news again.

Of course, it’s not good news.

T.O.’s got money problems, among other troubles, according to a piece in GQ.

The once-electric wideout earned $80 million over a career marked by both accomplishment and controversy, but now, he says, he’s broke.

He’s also friendless and apparently despondent, living in an apartment in L.A.

Those money troubles, he says, stem from bad business decisions _ investments made at the suggestion of those presumed to be knowledgeable and operating in his best interests.

T.O. says he was never a big spender himself.

Now 38, he’s still aching for a comeback, on and off the field.

Terrell Owens would have had a lot of his mony left if he invested in condoms instead of condominiums

This is the man who recently said he would NEVER pay child support for his own child. Uh, yeah. I’m not going to judge him, but I not going to extend him any pity, either. That same kid he refused to support may need to wipe his old decrepit @ss someday.

Wow…you are just awful people commenting on here. He was a jerk of a teammate and an egomaniac, but he has never been arrested and is actually quite charitable. This is a shame and if any of you people cheering this on consider yourselves to be decent people (or, worse yet, Christian), you should look in the mirror and figure out what is wrong with you.

80 million over a 14 year career is an average of 5.71 per year. That is blowing alot of money over many years. If you have that much money all you have to do is save it or invest it conservatively. Unfortunately, that is a theme that is all too common among athletes. Nobody feels sorry for anyone who blows or loses that much money. He is despondent because the camera is no longer on him. The media loves football not TO. If you happen to notice TO wasnt in front of the camera much this season the people scoring touchdowns were. If you still feel sorry for him, he still receives a nice tax free pension every year for his services in the NFL to keep him from living under a bridge. Life goes on. I am more interested in the athletes that made 80 million and did somethiing with it after their sports career. ahh yes, a success story!

@ LawDawg: He HAS been arrested — TWICE recently. For not paying child support. He is a deadbeat dad.

We fall down, but by the GRACE of God we can get back up again. Truly this is a real sad story. $80 million were earned and he didn’t try to pay any of that to the mothers of his children. Not only does he need prayers, but I also see that he needs counseling. If if was you, you would be asking for the prayers also. Praying that God will work through his situation.

I like TO from watching his reality show, but he is one conceited individual. I am sorry he’s going through so much pain, but a lot he brought on himself. Oh well….I have no money to loan him.

Not a fan of the guy but I am not interested in piling on either.

It is through adversity that someone finds his/her true character.
TO can sit on the pity pot and look for sympathy (which is going to be hard to find I suspect) or he can man up, realize his playing days are over and his ability to live the life of the NFL rock-star is kaput.

He can pull up himself up by the boot straps find a job, maybe even give something back to the world which granted him so much (coaching HS football, working at a kid’s camp etc). The NFL might even be willing to pay him a couple of hundred thou a year to talk to the NFL freshmen about fiscal responsibility (He could be the poster child for “Don’t Let this Happen to You!”)

It won’t buy the Bentley or the bling, but the point is to do something that actually benefits someone else other than himself. Though there may be challenges, the situation offers a chance to find the man within the boy.

Didn’t he just sign with the Allen Wranglers were he is supposedly co- owner as well. Clearly he’s not that broke. I don’t feel sorry for him; that’s what happens when you waste money and other people’s time. He should have never done that reality show, clearly that was his end all to end all right there. To busy playing Mr. Hollywood vs. making plays on the field. What about all of his character “friends” on the T.O. show, they can’t help him out now…..OH NO I forgot, their all just made for TV.

Maybe he’ll get some HUMBLE PIE in the IFL.

What did he do to make you all despise him so much? I’m curious to hear the reasons. He didn’t cause any harm to society, didn’t kill dogs, didn’t rape women, hell didn’t pilfer millions from unknowing investors. Yet you all speak of him like he is the scum of the earth? Is it because he is a “thug”?

The only good from this story is if Owens will talk with some of the young men that think they have nothing to worry about. The easy come easy go is right on for so many. Money brings friends that will help you spend. When it’s gone, so are the friends.Sad Story.

I do know TO, played college football with him. One of the best guys I have ever met, both as a friend and a teammate. Yes, he has a lot of issues and yes, he brought some of them on himself. He is one of the high profile athletes who has never been in trouble off of the field. I know he owes child support, and I would tell him to take care of that as a priority. No need in bashing a guy most of you tuned in to watch him amazing abilities on the field.

Yea well maybe it’s me but no one should be paid to play a sport in the first place. But hey that’s the American dream and I’m all American but come on now the rest of world does hard labor while these ball players live it up. And when that is not enough they go on strike? I say pay them hourly for playing ball maybe a bonus here and there to the ones who put in the extra effort. Start a 401K program for these losers so they can still pay that child support and maybe have enough left to pay the rent. And stop paying these kids millions to play ball.

Keep your head up T.O. everybody goes through hard times but only those with FAITH come out on top. I don’t think people read ALL of the story just bits and pieces…cause it clearly states he did like many other famous people and companies for that matter and hired someone to manage his money and they did not manage it properly. He did not choose to be in this situation. Either way all the nay sayers are giving him the motivation he needs to get back in the game! I loved you when you where in the spotlight and I still love and support you when the spotlight turns off! I will se you at the top AGAIN T.O. Go HARD!!!

He had it all and now he is penniless and friendless. Maybe Jeff Garcia will give him a hand out, oh I forgot, T.O. called Garcia a homosexual in an interview. How about Donavan McNabb? I guess not, T.O. threw McNabb under the bus also. Hey Owens, order up.
