Volkswagen Super Bowl tease already a YouTube sensation

Super Bowl 46 in Indianapolis is not until Feb. 5 but Volkswagen is ready to take the multimillion-dollar advertising dogfight to its competitors.

Just like last year, the German automaker will continue its “Star Wars” theme. But instead of a child in a Darth Vader suit trying to use “the force” to raise objects, including a Passat, Volkswagen is relying on a chorus of dogs to preview its move to the “bark side.”

The canines, already a YouTube sensation, bark to the tune of the “Imperial March” from the popular George Lucas movie series, and it comes complete with a Chewbacca-like howl.

While it isn’t revealing its Game Day ad yet, Volkswagen promises the YouTube clip, already seen by more than 3 million, “will all make sense” eventually. The automaker says an “epic Game Day invitation is about to be dispatched across the galaxy.”

As Times magazine’s website notes, when Volkswagen leaked last year’s “Star Wars” commercial it ended up being the year’s top viral ad campaign with more than 60 million views online. The automaker hopes “the force” will be with it this time around, too.

The AFC and NFC championship games will be played Sunday to decide which two teams advance to the Super Bowl.

The roadside of advertising history is littered with ads that were popular but ineffective. Buzz does not always equal sales. Don’t tell me you liked the ad, tell me you bought the car!

I don’t get it, but that is because I don’t watch Star Wars. I don’t know much about it. :D I’m sure it would be a very funny commerical, if I did have that knowledge. :)

[...] is again advertising at the Superbowl with a Star Wars theme.  This year, they are doing the Imperial March with a chorus of dogs barking out the theme.  It’s pretty cute way to go to The Bark Side.  [...]
