Son fakes mom’s death for time off

So, how far would you go to make up an excuse to get paid time off from your job?

Police say a Pennsylvania man advertised in a local newspaper that his mother had gone to the great beyond, according to an Associated Press report.

Brookville Police Chief Ken Dworek said Scott Bennett, 45, wrote up the obituary notice for The Jefferson Democrat because he didn’t want to get fired for taking time off. Bennett’s occupation wasn’t provided.

It wasn’t until relatives called the northwestern Pennsylvania newspaper to say Mom was very much alive, and to prove it, she showed up on the newspaper’s doorsteps.

The plot (no pun intended) landed Bennett in jail on a disorderly conduct charge.

It’s a miracle–Mom’s alive!

Fire Scott and give his job to someone who’ll be committed to the job.

Give Scott unemployment, housing, and food stamps for 10 years and have him thank President Obama by going to the polls and cast a reliable Democrat vote.

Adios!

RGB, You’re fixation is causing you to percieve the object of your obsession into every facet of life. This is not about Obama, or politics, its about you losing touch with reality.

Obviously Scott was simply a MASH fan and was simply channeling his inner Maxwell Q Klinger.

RGB, you are still an IDIOT! Character, not President Obama, is this individual’s issue. Now you understand why morals and values are so important in a leader. This individual is just like Newt. He lies for self gratification. How sad you are that you can’t tell the difference between the two. Stop looking for someone to blame for your issues you create in your life. BLAME YOURSELF FOR YOUR OWN MORAL FAILURES!

While it is going too far morally to fabricate an obituary, I do understand this man wishing for more time off from work. The U.S. continues toward valuing a work-oriented culture, rather than leisure. It is not uncommon for workers to be subjected to 24/7 schedules with pagers, on call, etc. Time off is seen as something bad and unproductive. The fact is, the workplace asks too much of people, and I admire people who try to part from the sick work culture we’re in.

I suppose, RGB, that if you stubbed your toe falling over your pile of beercans on the floor of the double-wide, that would be Obama’s fault too?

I had an employee once who had all 8 of his grandparents die. Then after he was assigned to a different supervisor, years later, I understand 3 more of his grandparents died.

Why has the comment section become all about RGB? Didn’t your mother’s teach you to ignore the idiots of the world or you just feed their need for attention?
As for Scott (remember him? he’s the subject of this article), of course he went too far. But I do love Radar’s comment. Klinger did this sort of thing all the time. Problem for Scott is that he lives in the real world and should not only lose his job over this, but I think he also deserves a time out and maybe even a grounding from mom.

In one of my past work places, the company had to over schedule to make sure they had enough employees there. It was a glass factory where they never shut down. The company had a “go home list” that they would utilize when they knew they had enough people to run the shifts. The first signer would be the first to go. Many employees would arrive at work an hour before their shift starting time to sign the “go home list”.

Stupid yes, but jail time? If we locked up everybody for being stupid…well, you get the idea. How many members of congress would be their right now, including some living in a big white house. If his boos wants to fire him that is his business.

Criminal charges for writing something in the newspaper? See, there’s this thing called the constitution. We’d all be better off if more cops could read it and then perhaps enforce it. This could have just as easily been a prank, which should not rise to the criminal level either.

RGB is RIGHT!
Maybe Scott can marry the woman in Detroit with 6 kids who just traded her house for a car! She has 6 kids and is on disability! It must pay well because she could trade her house for a car because she has a new house to move her 6 welfare checks, I mean kids, into! She’s big as a cow too, that must be here disability!!!!!!

Although the person is also at fault for being lazy and irresponsible, it is still the Obama way once he gets fired. He will get his money, food stamps, and housing and wonder why he ever got a job in the first place. Just like the lady who just received 850k and still gets to collect unemployment. It’s a joke and everyone who cant see that needs to look a little closer before they say RGB is wrong!

Scott was fired for cause, not laid off, and would therefore not be eligible for unemployment. Employers pay unemployment insurance to the state, and even if he appeals his unemployment case, the employer has ample printed and living evidence that he lied.

now i thought the article was about a man trying to pull a fast one on his job. Now where he took it too far but I people have used that excuse since the beginning of time. As for Obama, people please, I didnt vote but I am smart enough to know that it did not take these last couple of years to put us in this debt we see today. If you want to blame someone blame the right person. It was Bush who put us in this mess then left, not OBAMA. If anything, he is trying to give the real middle class workers a break financially. More than I can ever say the republicans or the BUSHS ever did for america. If you look at their trend, we only went in debt and had wars. We lost more soldiers in this last war in another country then all the other wars combine. Do you homework before speaking others into the ground. If you just dont like OBAMA or the fact that he’s African American then don’t. But don’t slander a man for you own opinions.

Also, I wish I had a quarter for every time that an Employee missed work because they were ‘throwing up blood.’ I have no aversion to firing the irresponsible.

If you are out for more than two days you have to apply for family and medical leave which requires alot of documentation and if you don’t produce it you are fired! So no matter how sick you may really be you better have the paperwork done and have it to personnel. Also you have to use your leave time which is funny cause you build up alot cause you never get to take it! And quess what I work for the government!

The reason the debt went so high under this President is because the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the Medicare prescription drug plan (btw instituted by Bush 2) were never added to the debt. All of it was “paid” for with borrowed money. After President Obama took office, he ordered it put on the books because not having it on there created a false sense of security. We believed we were waging two wars and giving tax cuts and not adding to the debt? This is why the debt has grown over $4 trillion under President Obama. President Bush left office without ever picking up the tab on his watch.

Democrats never think they are wrong. Look at the mess we are in… I’ve never heard a democrat or an african american say Obama has ever made a mistake. I’m not sure I trust those people to be objective when they go to the polls. Even now, everything is Bush’s fault apparently.

Turn the tables and ask a conservative. They acknowledge mistakes made by presidents that they supported.

What an idiot!
If you’re worried about getting fired for taking time off, that probably means you’re already on your way out for other screw ups or you’ve already taken too much time off or played hookey from work too many times already. You would think in this day and age people would be smarter than that but not this guy apparently.
