This ought to go over real big among people around here fighting for a couple hundred bucks a week in unemployment benefits.
A former superintendent of schools in Philadelphia got a nearly $1 million buyout when she was separated from her post in the wake of a series of calamities including a big budget deficit and a no-bid contract award.
Now, she’s filed for unemployment.
And she stands to get $573 a week, according to this dispatch from CBSPhilly.com.
No surprise here: the potential payout is raising a pretty good stink, particularly among some school police officers who were laid off and had to fight for unemployment.
BTW: The super in question qualifies for thoses bennies because she was asked to leave the school district, but not fired for cause. The state ultimately will decide the fate of the claim.

well, while it does seem odd, she’s a taxpaying citizen just like the rest of us…why shouldn’t she claim unemployment? this soak the rich mentality on the part of the media is creating class divisions/warfare within the country…

I say file for welfare, heck she contributed to the system. ABout time she gets some of her “investment” back. People you can’t get mad at the system you create and then when people turn around and use it you make a stink about it…smh

She must not have been available when DCSS was looking for a super; she would have fit right into the culture there.

….And we wonder why our kids are coming out of the public school system far behind our foreign competitors!! Our public education system is broken! Would love to see the grades this ‘PhD’ received in American History and political science!! The Occupy Crowd should ‘Occupy’ this woman’s home! Philly failed to preclude her taking additional advantage of the taxpayers! WHAT A SCAM ARTIST!

I guess its because she got a lump sum payout?
When my husband was laid off he got a severance package that paid him for several weeks after he was let go. He was told that he couldn’t file for unemployment while he was getting those payments. He ended up with another job before the payments stopped so he was never eligible for unemployment benefits. I guess the school system should have made monthly payments to her.

This is the kind of thing that makes me fume – pay 1 million for incompetence. Who was on the selection committee? Another superintendent screwing the system.

@JACKSONATL; She shouldn’t get any unemployment because she almost certainly cheated the taxpayer out of far more, which is why she got “relieved” of duty. She’ll probably be hired in the Atlanta area soon.

@SWF, well, let’s see, head of a school system in Philly….Yeah, I’m just soooo sure it was a “pale white.” This story has dark black written all over it. Happens in the ATL quite often.

White people STAY getting mad over people that are making/collecting more money than them. You people have been taking advantage of people all of your lives and your histories (familiarize yourselves with YOUR history)…so build a bridge and get over it. The money that she’s getting is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions your “clear” ancestors made off of us and stole from us…
