Samsung smartphones snatching market share from Apple

Samsung is snatching momentum and market share from Apple when it comes to smartphones.

According to a Reuters report, Samsung is now the top smartphone maker, increasing shipments 44 percent in the July to September quarter.

“Apple’s iPhone sales shrank by 16 percent to 17.1 million units in the third quarter,” Reuters reports. “Samsung had 23.8 percent of the global smartphone market in the third quarter, 9 points higher than Apple. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy line of products is powered by Google’s (GOOG.O) Android software.”

Samsung shipped about 28 million smartphones in the third quarter, up from about 20 million last quarter.

Separately, Apple is fielding complaints over the length of its iPhone 4S battery.

I can believe this for i’ve seen the progressiveness of Samsung in not only with their smartphone such as the Galaxy II s, but also with the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
My coworker has the Galaxy IIs smartphone and it was very impressive with the picture quality, speed and features. I actually own the Galaxy Tab 10.1, it’s easy to use, fast as hell, totally customizable and feature rich right out of the box. Verizon informed me that I’m entitled to a free upgrade to an iphone 4 or 4s, so I went into the Verizon store to learn a little about the iphone 4 and 4s. I did a simple website side by side access test between my 1st generation Motorola Droid X and the iphone 4 then the 4s. To my suprise, my Droid X hit any website I threw at it at a rate of 2 to 1 in comparison to both iphones 4 and 4s. The explaination of the sales rep was “Well, I don’t care much about how fast websites load on my iphone, I just want to get on the internet”. Of course I looked at her as being an idiot for making a statement like this for the iphone 4s is being marketed for it’s faster processor with voice recognition and higher pixel camera.
I then walked out of the Verizon store still feeling after just shy of a year and a half, that my Droid X purchase was a good decision, and my apps are free. With Aol Radio and Pandora i’ve got all the music I will ever need.
Apple’s market share is going to continue to decrease if they remain on the path of a non-open operating system and just adding 1 or two new features to each new phone requiring you to purchase a whole new phone!
No doubt there will always be Apple fans waiting in long lines to purchase new Apple products just because it’s something newer, so i’ll purchase more shares of Apple stock using my Galaxy Tab 10.1, while you guys keep buying Iphones, Ipods and Ipads making me wealthy. (smile)
