Metro Atlanta’s unemployment rate fell slightly to 10.4 percent in July, from 10.5 percent in June, the state labor department said Thursday.
There has been no improvement in the jobless rate from a year ago, when it also was 10.4 percent.
The July rate dipped because there were 14,000 more people employed, the labor department said. And there were fewer layoffs in health care and social assistance, educational services, and accommodations and food services.
Among the core metro counties, Clayton posted the highest jobless rate at 13 percent. It was followed by Fulton (10.9 percent), DeKalb (10.7 percent), Cobb (9.5 percent) and Gwinnett (9.2 percent).
Unemployment in the city of Atlanta was 11.6 percent in July, down from 11.7 percent in June.
Last week, the labor department reported that Georgia’s unemployment rate rose to 10.1 percent in July, from 9.9 percent in June.
The July increase was due primarily to the traditional seasonal layoffs, with about 80 percent of them in state and local education, the labor department said.
July marked the 48th consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is currently 9.1 percent.

Poor Barack. Couldn’t improve even a single aspect of the economy–even with both Houses of Congress. Guess we WILL have to make him dictator so he can “help” us. Because, of course, we want to make him happy. After all, that IS what this is all about: His happiness.
The contrast kills me: Obama with both houses of congress can’t do even a single thing that is good–but Dick Cheney–a V.P. with a heart condition–ruled the world.
You people give some folks too much credit and others not so much.

No I never contended that. But nice try putting words in my mouth. Stick to what is said and NOT what you THINK someone says. The same logic would also go for Obama. Did he have to extend Bush’s tax cuts? Was he forced to? Wasn’t it a DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS that did this? If Obama had no help he can blame his own lack of leadership. It was only THIS YEAR the GOP managed to win HALF of Congress. His own party had ALL of Congress since January 2007. What have they done? What did he and Congress do since his inauguration? While he spent all of his capital on his healthcare plan that runs up the debt, shouldn’t he have come up with something better besides some FDR-lite bridge building program?
I remind you that Bush’s last two years in office was under a Democratic controlled Congress Obama was also a part of. I also remind you half of Obama’s first term had his party controlling Congress. I ask you what did they do? And even now we’re getting the blame game that it’s all the Tea Party’s fault. Amazing that a small segment of a segment of Congress is now getting the blame for Obama’s failed plan.
Remember Obama came in fully aware of what the conditions were. He was aware and had supposedly the smartest people coming in to solve the problem. He swore HIS plan would not take us past 8% unemployment.
So I think you need to remove this “all Bush’s fault” nonsense. Dems were equally complacent. Add to the fact that Dems had ALL means to erase this or even put a dent to the positive side and have done nothing but expanded the debt and drove unemployment up higher. Since the Dems had Congress AND the White House gas prices have increased, foreclosures have increased, inflation has increased, unemployment has gone up, we’ve ventured into more wars, the federal debt has exponentially increased, etc. If we blame Bush for everything that happened between 2001 and 2009 then we need to apply that logic to Obama and blame him for everything that has happened since he has been in office as well.

RGB – it is because logic is not taught any more. The Left does not understand that in order to carry on a rational and logical debate, the standards they apply have to apply to both sides. This comes down to emotional hatred of Republicans rather than the facts.
“When a Republican is President we will blame the President. When a Democrat is President, we’ll switch it up and blame the small faction of Republicans in Congress. And if we’re held in check with this flawed logic we’ll start calling people racists, bigots, zealots, liars, thieves, hillbillies, etc.”

The metro area employment picture may brighten when Mando America locates in Meriwether County. It will create some 400 jobs. Of course it cost the county a lot more than they’re letting on, but what the hey; it’s only tax dollars!

This is a great indicator of what is going to happen in the future, especially when the super 12 committee makes their final decisions…… I mean if you look at our housing numbers that are still plummeting and you look at Warren Buffet he recently had to give Bank of America 5 billion dollars. I think is a wake up call for what is going to happen in the future. Source for my information is saveyourwallet.com

Red, the same thing can be said about the 2010 election when the ultra-right wing blob was elected to Congress. Go back and look at the data regarding the growth of the economy 2009-2010 prior to Congress being taken over by ideologues rather than pragmatics.
this blog is evidence of the "real" problem

The real problem in our country is partisanship and ignorance. Unfortunately, it’s only going to get worse. The Republican’s rework of the state and federal district maps here in Georgia will add to this problem.
The average Republican thinks that climate change is not real, that Keynesian economics does not work in a recession, that tax cuts for the rich and corporations will help to reduce the deficit, and that Iraq was working with Al Qaeda.
My concern is reflected in my investing. Last week I moved about 80% of my 401K out of mutual funds and into fixed assets.
