Power Breakfast: Metro transportation list OK’d, gas prices, Lowe’s, Atlanta schools, immigration, Google, Buffett

Finally, there’s a transportation project list.

Five mayors and county commissioners from across the Atlanta region made history on Monday, agreeing unanimously on a $6.14 billion list of transportation projects to be built across 10 counties, and paid for by the region as a whole if approved in a 2012 referendum, AJC writer Ariel Hart reports.

The list is a first draft, and can be changed over the next two months, Hart writes. There will be opportunities for the public to be heard.

If the projects are built, in just over a decade passengers could be riding trains from Atlanta to Cobb County or to Emory University, or traveling new, swifter ramps through the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange, or finding countless arterial roads wider and less clogged, from Henry County to Cherokee County, Hart writes.

The projects will get built only if voters approve a 1 percent sales tax to pay for them in a referendum next year. A final draft of the list must be approved by Oct. 15, Hart reports.

From a political view, it’s not just about week to week fuel prices. It’s about presidential administrations to presidential administrations and the reality that GWB’s got reamed for high gas prices and Obama’s gets a pass. Simply another fine example of media bias that does not go un-noticed.

Back-woods hicks are the reason this state will never amount to anything. Get off Obama’s back. If we are doomed, it’s because Bush and Congress put us here with loose regulations on Banks. Face reality and stop whistling Dixie. Your racist agenda is tierd and pointless.

I am not on President Obama’s bandwagon by any stretch of the imagination but you lose all credibility in your weak arguments when you start off with ” Obummer, Obozo, Osama, Lil Barry Bailout etc…Just saying you sound like an ignorant poster that has nothing to add but another cliche play on Obama’s name.

Glad to see the list is 55% transit. The most import tranist projects got apporved for the list, sorry Gwinnett County. Now trains will run to Emory and Cumberland area. Also, very glad to see the BeltLine got a huge amount of money to get transit built. Vote Yes in 2012!
