Power Breakfast: 500 new health jobs, cost of Atlanta schools cheating, airport, green jobs, Tara Field

There’s good news on the metro jobs front today.

WellStar Health System – one of metro Atlanta’s largest medical providers – plans to replace its aging Paulding County hospital with a new 112-bed, $125 million facility to help meet the need of a rapidly growing population, AJC writer Misty Williams reports.

The 226,000-square-foot facility will be located in Hiram and create an estimated 300 new jobs in Paulding, one of the fastest growing counties in the state, said Mark Haney, WellStar’s senior vice president of real estate and construction, Williams writes.

Also, a new medical office building — totaling 80,000 square feet — is in the works and will bring an additional 200 jobs, Williams reports.

“There’s a tremendous need for a new facility,” Haney said.

Paulding County’s population has jumped nearly 75 percent to more than 140,000 in the past decade, William reports, citing U.S. Census Bureau data. It’s expected to climb an additional nearly 19 percent by 2016, WellStar spokesman Keith Bowermaster said.

Unemployment numbers are comprised of those that are in the job market for the past 30 days. It does not include those that have not been in the job market in the last 30 days: people who have given up looking; those that have gone off unemployment because it has run out. One solution to unemployment is “High Speed University” check it out

About frickin’ time! There are a lot of bedroom communities in the Atlanta area, but none more so than Paulding. I hope the county leadership is reaching the conclusion that having more jobs in the county equals more revenue in sales tax/SPLOST, less pressure on the arterial roads leading out to Cobb and Douglas, and better lives for the families in the county.

Do not go to the High Speed University website. Don’t even search for it. It is complete and utter bunk.

Before you or anyone writes about job creation, I want to actually see the job postings! How does someone find out about these jobs exactly? All I heard during the Bush/Obama bailout was that new jobs will be created. Great–so where are they?

Yes, and the beauty of Paulding County is being destroyed by all the growth. When will people quit praising increases in population and development. It is, in fact, very destructive!
