Not everybody laments gas prices that could approach $4 a gallon, AJC reporter Dan Chapman writes.
He then cites some of the winners from higher prices — including oil companies, bike shops, MARTA, rail freight companies, alternative energy firms and even the state of Georgia, which is likely to gain higher gas-tax revenues this summer.
But average consumers are taking it on the chin.
How are higher prices affecting you? What are you doing to cope? Car pooling? Telecommuting? Staying close to home for vacation?

I wonder how many people are going further into debt, purchasing a vehicle that gets 5 MPG more, when they could slow down 10 MPH and produce the same increase in mileage.

I believe we aren’t paying ENOUGH for gas….the taxes are too low to support the required transportation infrastructure and there is absolutley NO incentive for Americans to look at alternative modes of transportation. Jeez…if Berlin can install an extensive rail system that works and people use, why can’t we? And, don’t give me that suburban/urban density crap — we brought this upon ourselves by creating the density issues.

Florida’s governor turns down federal dollars for high speed rail which is the general mood of red state, Republican governors. That type of posturing will keep us mired in the past. Keep building and maintaining roads and adding more and more cars and polluting the air and building more roads and adding more cars and polluting the air and… Think of every resource which is dedicated to the automobile in addition to the way land is developed; the way buildings and houses are designed; big box retail sitting an ocean of asphalt; parking decks resembling high rises; looking for parking while running an errand downtown; devoting valuable time to planning with parking in mine while attending a sporting event; cops directing traffic; road repairs; pouring concrete; spreading asphalt; resurfacing; widening roads; add a lane here; add a lane there…

Folks, it is a losing battle. The less gas we consume, the higher the price. The more efficient the appliance, the higher the energy price. In other words, the oil companies and energy providers are determined to make a certain margin of profit, no matter what. You are suckered into buying a more energy efficient gas applicance, for example. When the useage drops below a certain level the natural gas providers run to the state regulators (if need be) and get a big rate increase to offset any drop in volume used. The EPA is one of the bjiggest government frauds ever enacted on the public.

u can make more money turning out a gas car than u can electric.Have u ever thought abt how much safer a electric car would be.Gas rides are nasty with oil and having to put gas in some of us get sick. They become very costly. But if we truly have freedoms, than I should have had the rt to buy my first electric car at least by 1980.We all lived through this in the 70s and dreamed of having them in masses by now.We know whos in control. One big corporation holding the masses down.

Actually, GaPower encourages conservation. There are many reasons for price increases, mostly it’s just inflation.

High speed rail is a boondoggle! People, don’t let the Obama-nuts con you into this. The gas-burning engine on an asphalt road is the most cost-efficient means of transportation we have and will likely ever have.
The liberal con game to get you out of your cars is all part of the United Nations Agenda 21 conspiracy. Look it up!
Real Americans are independent-minded people who know what’s best for themselves and don’t need a nanny state to make up their minds. What we need is to drill for our own oil and keep widening roads to meet demand. Keep the rail boondoggles for the Europeans.

Buffett says it’s rail. That’s why he is so heavily invested with the railroads.
Real Americans? Do you define that as selfish and wasteful? We’re supposed to be the stewards of God’s green Earth.

In the interest of fairness and balance:
“If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when,” Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said in a question and answer session after delivering a speech at the University of Frankfurt. “The short-term negotiations are very important, I look at this as a tipping point.”

What about those elusive caves in Afghanistan and Pakistan?
“AP IMPACT: US spent-fuel storage sites are packed”
The nuclear crisis in Japan has laid bare an ever-growing problem for the United States – the enormous amounts of still-hot radioactive waste accumulating at commercial nuclear reactors in more than 30 states. The U.S. has 71,862 tons of the waste, according to state-by-state numbers obtained by The Associated Press. But the nation has no place to permanently store the material, which stays dangerous for tens of thousands of years.

It doesn’t matter the price of fuel I will pay 30% less by using XFT. XFT is a patented proven comprehensive fuel treatment that provides 4 key benefits:
1) improved fuel economy,
2) prolonged engine life,
3) reduced emissions, and
4) increased performance.
I know there are many additives on the market – the burn rate modifier is what sets this product apart from any other additive. The burn rate modifier, when combined with gasoline or diesel fuel, (1) increases the rate of the combustion reaction and (2) changes the molecular surface structure of the fuel to achieve a more efficient combustion process. XFT has been in the international industrial market for almost 20 years and comes with a money back guarantee so users have everything to gain with nothing to lose.
