Which iPhone side are you on — AT&T or Verizon?

Today’s the big day for iPhone enthusiasts — Verizon officially gets to take on AT&T.

What are you going to do?

Many have been upset with dropped calls by AT&T and have pledged to switch to Verizon. But AT&T has spent billions to improve its network recently.

Meanwhile, often forgotten in this battle are the advances made by Droid phones — sold by these two heavyweights and others.

Which side are you on? The Apple iPhone or Droid? Verizon or AT&T? Why?

Verizon, hands down. Have had the Droid X since it’s release date and have been saving over 60 bucks a month since leaving At&t. On Verizon’s strong network I have never had a single dropped call. Droid X acts as it’s own 3g hotspot so I was able to cancel my Comcast home internet service. I have never needed to surf the internet and talk at the same time so this ability is a non-issue. Verizon’s unlimited data and voice plans have been significantly cheaper for me in comparison to what I paid At&t monthly. The savings are that much more substantial monthly with the termination of comcast service! Verizon customer service has been great both with billing questions and technical explanations. Verizon even quickly conferenced in Motorola Engineers on questions that were beyond their technical expertise without wasting my time-

The Droid X is a true all-in-one device with navigation, great camera and video, plenty of storage for music, pictures and files. large high resolution screen, great sound from the mp3 player and great battery life! Droid X has significantly cut down on the number of devices I used to carry around with me at the gym, the car and special events-
I will add that the Iphone4 is also a quality product and now the marriage of a great product with a top notch network is a win win for the consumer and Verizon-

iPhone AT&T has the meat and potatoes. Verizon is still at the kiddie table with their version. I can talk on the phone while checking my email, FB, or search for a movie without dropping a call. Can’t do that on Sprint’s or T-moblile network. AT&T is the best hands down.

AT&T. Now I’ve come full circle I can remember in the ’70’s attending a seminar in NYC (I was new to the area and looking for something to do.) The entire seminar was devoted to destroying AT&T. They had little machines that made the sound of quarters going into the pay telephone. So you didn’t need to use money to pay for your call. That was just one of the items. There were many. Now I pray for Verizon’s demise. They are the AT&T of this age. They are terrible. Reams of paper per month “explaining ” your bill, but it explains NOTHING. I was always billed for more than the monthly amount I was supposed to be charged for EVERYTHING. Goodbye Verizon. Hello AT&T, don’t I know you?

I left ATT not for their service, but for their customer service. It took me 6 months and too many hours to get a billing issue resolved. In the end it was fixed but the amount of time and stress was more than I could take. I am now a happy verison customer.

While the iPhone is the main focus today, AT&T does a terrible job with its Android market, as well. Continuous dropped calls, awful network access, and the customer non-service….there is not enough space here to even break the ice. My 5 year old doesn’t even want to play with my At&T Samsung Galaxy because it is TOO SLOW.

I am counting the days until I can drop my contract!!! What a happy day that will be!!

I carry both AT&T and Verizon phones (personal and work) and they both have issues. Both drop calls regularly. I have a smart phone on Verizon and the email and internet are slow. It will be interesting to see what happens when Verizon gets slammed with all the new traffic. In the end, it is still very low power radio and it will *never* be as reliable as wireline. Once you accept that, issues are not the end of the world. Frustrating, maybe but life altering, not really.

I’m sticking with AT&T for the simple fact that they use GSM. Verizon’s CDMA system is terrible and useless in many places I travel to.

Ok…here’s my take on things, for what its worth. I had AT&T for 2 years up until 3 years ago. My experience with AT&T is for the most part in Atlanta. Calls dropped on a regular basis. I had two cell phones within that period, and no matter what: dropped calls. I could tell you exactly where they would happen, meaning, what locations throughout the city. There were roughly 6 or 7 stops up and down 75/85 and 400 (my routes to work) where the calls would drop. I was tired of it, so I switched to Verizon when my contract was satisfied. Not to say that AT&T did not try to charge me the $200 or so dollars when I canceled my contract. They tried a fast one, and YES it pissed me off. What a great send off right?? So I switched to Verizon, and truth be told, have had no real problems at all. The only thing about Verizon, is that YES…it is expensive and the nickle and dimeing can be annoying. But the bottom line is, the service is truly impeccable. Do I personally care that my phone may not work in England…nah. And, for the record, you CAN surf the net while on the Iphone 4 with Verizon, just not using the Verizon network. You most certainly can surf the net when your phone is connected to WI-FI. I have done it since receiving my new Iphone, of which, thus far I am very happy with. Perhaps if I were using my cell phone as though my life depended on it, I would have more issues with it?? I don’t know. I receive my emails, I text, I download and use apps, I make calls and receive them and all in all, Verizon has caused me little to no headaches at all. Visit Consumer Reports…Verizon is ranked #1 in just about every major city in the US…AT&T at the bottom.

I love At&T

I’m choose AT&T. I’ve owned sever iPhones and currently I’m using the iPhone 4. I’ve never really had any issues with AT&T. Last summer, when I upgraded to the iPhone 4, I didn’t experience the drop calls that alot of people were experiencing. I think every phone and network has it’s issues, but all depends on what you the customer are willing to overlook. I personally had billing issues with Verizon when I had them and that is not what I’m willing to overlook. I pay no more than $75 a month with AT&T. It is my only phone. I talk whenever I feel like it because I have rollover minutes and the A list. I also have unlimited data because I previously had an iPhone unlimited data plan. Texting is unlimited because there is several apps for that. I feel like I’m getting quantity and quality for my money with AT&T, but that would depend on who you ask.

I have the Nexus One on T-Mobile and incur no problems while talking and surfing the internet with the wireless turned off. I thought all smart phones and networks had this capability. Have had my N-1 for 10 months. Its only now that I am learning different. I have even talked, found map directions on google maps, found a resturant phone number and texted all this info to the person I was talking with all in the same conversation. Like the Droid X, the N-1 can tether and/or be a (and its own) hotspot for up to five smart phones running wireless if I approve their access request. The N-1 is a “sleeper” within the industry and I love it. I am an original customer of VoiceStream and remained with T-Mobile once they purchased VoiceStream. The customer service has always been impeccable from North Dakota to Texas to Alabama to Georgia. Not one single complaint! Yall can run with the big boys…us smart folks will just remain high speed and low drag with T-Mobile!!

@Brian Frey

Consumer report is usually a good source but their ratings for mobile companies does not come from their research like all the other products…..no it comes from surveys from subscribers to their e-mails……some no name companys made it ahead of AT&T…..US Celluar…..Heck they even beat the all mighty VZ. No way that is possible…..that rating is based on the opinions of those taking the survey. I would like to see consumer report do a real test for mobile companies like they do for other products…..then we would see different results.

You don’t buy an iphone for the mobile phone service. You buy it for the apps and internet usage. That being said Verizon’s coverage wins hands down. I have had my AT&T iphone for 3 years and I’m tired of all my friends using the VZ phones to connect to the internet when I can get no signal. I am not in a rural area but in Athens, Ga where the AT&T coverage is very very weak. Now with VZ offering to pay you for your contract breakage fees from AT&T watch how many users make the switch.

Had a Bold 9000 on ATT and rarely a dropped call. Now have an iPhone 4 and it’s really no different. Perhaps some of the complaints are from those with earlier models. I have ATT for wireless, home and UVerse and have been very happy. Good service and competitive (albeit extortionate) prices. Familiarity tends to breed contempt so let’s see how happy the switchers are a year from now. No GSM or ability to talk and surf would be deal killers for me anyway.

I’ve had my Verizon iPhone since Monday and I love it! I’ve been a Verizon customer for 6 years and they’ve been great every time something comes up. The phone is only 3G but I have had no issues with dropped calls – even in places where previous Verizon phones had dropped calls! – and I am sooooo glad I didn’t have to go to ATT to get it! The downlaod times on WiFi are superfast, and DL times away from it are around 5 seconds. No problems so far with the network being overloaded….we’ll see how that goes after this weekend.

I should mention that I don’t rely as much on my phone as other posters here seem to; I am new to the whole smartphone scene. The fact that I can’t surf, text, and talk at the same time is of little consequence to me, since I rarely have had a need to do all that at the same time anyway. I could see how it would turn some ppl off tho. ;o)

I have both services and they both have many issues vw is over priced and customer service is not very good.I have been trying to get issues resolved since nov 21 in regards to my new contract. After vw failed to honor deals offered to me to get me not to cancel and renew thanks a lot loyalty department.Pulled the old never call back dragged me past 30 days promised that even if 30 days goes by and they do not resolve issue that would not be stuck with contract because of not getting done on there end.Well guess what as soon as that time passed oh yea you guessed so sorry sir your past your 30 days your locked in at the cancellation fee is 350 per line and you got 3 lines.Good times att is no better took me two years to resolve a issue where i returned defective out box phone to store then have store tell me that i would be refunded by customer service aka 611.All to have them get in a battle between store and customer service on who would issue refund all while i had no phone but yet was billed my service for months and actually sent me to collections while they still owed me my money back for the phone! Went for months trying to get something done then just gave up until i saw on my credit att.Had to email ceo they finally after almost two years got thinks cleared. And offered me great deals to make it up.Well that was a jk also took them months to honor there deal even with the office of the opp notes all over the account and still did not get every thing honored. Both services have issues att dropped calls Verizon slow data and horrible customer service.Just remember at the end of the day you choose them they do not choose you and do not let them forget that. And Verizon thanks for not calling be back on 13 different occasions as i spoke to you on customer service but you made sure to call many plenty of times in regard to my bill that was in extreme error on you gave the great advice to pay the huge totally in error over billed bill and that you would just credit back what was in error at a later date thanks buddy………..

I have been with the same wireless company since they were BellSouth Mobility and will stay with AT&T. I switched several years ago to Nextel and had the worse phone, worse service and worse customer service. I paid the early cancellation fee after less than 6 months and went back to AT&T and never regretted it. I have an iPhone 3gS and love it after apple replaced it. I plan on buying the iPhone 5 went it comes out this summer and can’t wait.

Your wireless service is what you make it. All companies have issues and as one other person said…it all depends on what you are going to put up with. Accept what you have or change service its as plan as that.

Nope. People buy the iPhone because they are in some sort of Steve Jobs/Apple cult. To have an iPhone you have to live with his restrictions and guidelines. The irony here is hilarious. Remember the 1984 commercial during the 1984 Superbowl for his computer? The message was, break away from the status quo. Be an individual. Break free from what everyone else thinks they have to do! Fast forward to the present and the evil empire depicted in that ad is now the Apple/Steve Jobs reality.

People by iPhones because they just don’t know any better.

I use a Droid w/ Verizon. Verizon is expensive but their customer service is great and I don’t loose calls. I am often annoyed when talking to people with that use an iPhone as I have a difficult time hearing them. I don’t know if it is the phone or the network, that will be interesting to see. I wouldn’t buy an iPhone for that reason, plus I have had 3 iPods in as many years and firmly believe Apple produces overrated and extremely expensive pieces of poo.
