What’s your iPhone strategy with Verizon out of the game?

Now what?

Comments from Verizon Communications CEO Ivan Seidenberg on Thursday left little room for the possibility of a Verizon version of the iPhone any time soon, Associated Press reported.

Speaking at an investors’ conference, Seidenberg said nothing about an iPhone for the company’s current network, AP wrote.

Instead, he hopes Apple will come around and allow Verizon to sell the phone for a new network it is building. The “4G” network hasn’t yet opened for service and won’t be complete next year, AP reported.

So, it looks like AT&T’s exclusive right to sell the iPhone in the U.S. will endure for awhile, despite rumors to the contrary.

Are you disappointed or not?

Would you get the iPhone if Verizon had it? Will you switch to AT&T when your contract expires now that Verizon appears out of the game in the short-run?

If you’re an AT&T customer, have you noticed an improvement in the network lately or not?

Finally, do you agree with the Verizon CEO when he said:  “We don’t feel like we have an iPhone deficit?”

I totally agree with GTFAN! Why would anyone be stupid enough to go backwards to att just for a phone that is unreliable as the iphone. Apple fired the guy who designed the iphone 4, Apple has also engaged in studies of what it will take to make the iphone current and future designs, work on other networks to pull away from att.
Ive got the Droid x that has paid for itself with the monthly savings I am realizing compared to what ii was paying att. Droid X has replaced my comcast internet service, it has replaced both cars xm radio by listening to aolradio with an rca patch cable, it has replaced my garmin gps, I have my own 3g hotspot when in the airport, coffee shop….etc. Verizon’s network is blazing fast! No dropped calls and prefect call clarity without a case! I had no 6hr wait when I purchased it the day it was released!

hmm…i wouldnt wait..id get a droid…

att service(phone and people) is pretty crap though…they’re smart phones pretty much suck (minus -iphone) but att is a lil too restrictive of a carrier. i use a modded droid htc tp2 and its alright, but id much rather have the droid x or something…

i had a iphone and it was pretty cool, but switchin to att isnt worth it when you can get an equally cool droid phone with a better service and price…=

@John – Very mature comment from a very mature iPhone user. Droid users are on average older, if you would like to perhaps look at a statistic or two before posting a moronic “joke”

iPhones are much less complex than Droid phones, much more restricted on the kins of apps they provide, and do not come with such grown up things like, Adobe Flash Support, Turn by Turn Navigation, and larger than 3.5 inch screens. So, in all seriousness, it looks like you might just be an Apple Fanboy FOOL. Good day sir.

Get a clue people. There is the iPhone, which sets the bar for every other phone to follow… and then there is every other phone just trying to catch up. Apple has consistently made superior products for most of its existence. Without Apple, there is no Windows… without Apple, we’re still using walkmans and buying CDs instead of taking all our music with us in one device. I understand the Bill Gates lovers hating on Apple, but the truth is that if Bill hadn’t stole the idea for Windows from the true innovators…

Just got the droid x with verizon and am very pleased. I get a signal in tons of places my at&t friends don’t, much more reliable service and this smartphone does everything-and the screen is amazing! I’m a mac computer user and always will be, was very intrigued by the iphone for a long time but never willing to switch to an inferior carrier and lose service when i’m traveling. Now there is no need to switch! Stick with verizon, droid…

I have been an Alltel-Verizon customer over 15 years and in my opinion coverage is superior to all others, mainly AT&T. Customer service has been excellent and the Blackberry Bold is my phone of choice. Anyone question the coverage, search IPad and look at voice and data coverage maps. You decide!!

Thanks

The iPhone is not good for business use so I have no interest in it. MORE IMPORTANTLY, when I want to make a phone call I want to actually hear the person on the other end of the line and also not drop calls. Used to be with AT&T and was a terrible experience. Verizon has excellent service, even out on the ski slopes in Colorado. I don’t think AT&T and T-mobile know where Colorado is.

Im sure the Verizon network might have less problems with dropped calls becasue ATT is loaded with more Smart Phones sucking bandwidth than the Verizon network has in our area ( maybe not in the northeast where RIM rules but thats not video and audio streaming like ATT )
Verizon had their shot at landing Apple but was to stingy to give up a larger percentage of the monthly subscription fee like ATT did ( has been estimated to be upwards of 12.00 per month per IPhone paid to apple from ATT) which industry insiders said at the time was way to much to give up…
Verizons offer was reportedly around 5-7 dollars per month…I like both APPLE and the DROID..I kind of just want them both to keep slugging it out…lol…like Coke and Pepsi :)

Verizon is a bunch of thieves and I would not have service with a company that cannot keep its word repeatedly and has such shoddy reception. I have had AT&T for several years and it works great. I got an iPhone 3G and really liked it, but hated that there was no bluetooth keyboard support. The 4G with with IOS 4 FINALLY fixed that. I carry a palm bluetooth folding keyboard and my iPhone and can do business everywhere without having to tote my laptop.

No problems with reception or dropped calls once I got my Otterbox for the new phone. I could not be more pleased with the phone, service and how many things I can do with it. The keyboard support finally let me have some of the convenience of my old palm with a great phone and there is an app for everything.

if you folk stop buyin that dumb iphone then maybe apple will feel the crunch and it will allow other networks to sell it but as long as you folk flock out to stores wen apple reviels a new product wen it is really just a copy of the iphone ipod touch and ipad then they wont stray from the nest and keep it all with att. so STOP COMPLAINING.

When personal computers were still relatively new, Apple took the “exclusive” approach. Despite having a stronger operating system, Apple sat back and watched while Microsoft built an empire and seized control of the market based on a more open approach.

Instead of learning from past mistakes, Apple is heading down the same road with the Iphone. By the time Apple opens the door to everyone, most people will already be content with what they have and someone else will be the dominant player in the cell phone market.

I’ve owned an iPhone since the first generation 3G. It’s a great device! My bro in-law has a droid and he likes the flexibility that it provides regarding applications. I’m not a app intensive person. I’m happy, he’s happy.

Also, I travel extensively throughout rural Georgia. Rarely, I loose a signal.

Bottom line, these devices dramatically improve productivity and when the movie that we want to see is “sold out” I can find an alternative in seconds. These are indeed great days.

Was with Verizon for 6 years and now AT&T for 2.
Love the Iphone 4. The Verizon Network is far better but their Customer Service is way worse.
If they both offered Iphone it would be a tough decision. I’d go with Verizon but not without misgivings. Without the Iphone I would not go near them.

I have noticed more dropped calls with AT&T since they opened the 4G network. We are with AT&T and at this point customer service, is not a forte’ of AT&T. Used to be, Last month I went over my bill, and found 30$ of charges, Changes, to my service that I didnt authorize. Of course I got credit, but one 9.99$ monthly charged really go my goat..Apparantly, there is a company, that sends you a tex message, AND IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND TO IT SAYING YOU DO NOT WANT IT, then it is automatically added to your service, as if you do. The lady, told me I had been paying for it since Febuary. and by the way they sent the message to my 17 yr old son, who naturally, deleted it, never read it….Thought this was strange, but the lady in CS, told me this is happening and they can’t seem to stop these scams, but of course they will go back to whenever it started…WATCH YOUR BILLS AND QUESTION THE CHARGES. The other 19.99$ was for GLOBAL GPS. Now with a I- Phone( and all my ap’s, and features) why do i need to pay 19.99 for global GPS? Again, another unnecessary, charge to my bill…AT&T has the market, the network, the name, but not the prices, service, or customer satisfaction….

I have been with Verizon for 5 years… I never really got into the iPhone hype as I had no desire to leave them. Where I live, Verizon is a tad better than AT&T; however, in the areas around me, Verizon is way better.. so I have to have a working phone. All the folks I know in Atlanta, almost none of them have AT&T; usually, they have MetroPCS, Sprint, or Verizon… I wouldn’t mind if AT&T offered iPhone on a prepaid plan, but I won’t hold my breath. Also, if I switched to AT&T for a smartphone, I would have to choose between 500MB or 2GB data caps… these smartphones are data hogs; I used 2.1GB on my Droid last month…I will just cling onto unlimited data on Verizon.

So what if Verizon never gets an iPhone, I won’t leave unless the phone company fails me… If it comes to Verizon, I MAY consider it. However, I don’t see anything revolutionary about it. I am happily sticking with my Droid Incredible with unlimited data.

I’ve been with AT&T for several years. Their cell phone service is terrible. Routinely I cannot pick up a signal in downtown ATL, sometimes I have to walk a block or two to find a signal and if I’m inside a building its also a challenge. Dropped calls are routine. Probably about 25% of the time I use my cell phone the call gets dropped.

I live in metro Atlanta, and I’ve been very pleased with AT&T coverage here. My son lives in NYC, and although he, as I, prefer the iPhone and Apple products generally, the quality of AT&T service in Manhattan has made him switch to Verizon and to give up the iPhone. A recent survey showed that even if Verizon were an available alternative network, 63% of iPhone users would stay with AT&T. I think it comes down to how coverage is where the user is.

Oh, and R.C. Collins, you are not just an idiot, but a racist idiot. Go find some other country to belong to. I’d ask the AJC to have your comment removed, but I think it’s better that you to serve as a reminder that your sub-species still exists.

What are all these complaints about customer service? I buy a phone, I use my minutes, I pay my bill. Do you get mad at the company when you go beyond what you have signed up for? Then yell at them as it is their fault expecting them to fix your problem. The problem is not terrible customer service, its the terrible people that have unreasonable expectations of a company and the service that they provide. The statements on cell coverage are correct. One company really does have an edge on that and it is Verizon.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get an LG Cosmos…it’s a piece of crap, and the only reason I stayed with it was because I thought I could upgrade to an iPhone in January. Now, Verizon’s saying that they won’t replace my phone with a model that actually works because I’d have to pay the full retail price. I like Verizon’s service and availability, but their customer service is beginning to get to me.

Is there any way to unlock an iPhone 3G and have it transferred to the Verizon network INSTEAD OF waiting for Verizon to build a “4G” network? Because I’d go buy an unlocked iPhone right now if I could do that (and get the hell away from this crappy LG Cosmos…)

DW is right, diffrent cellular signal, CDMA and GSM I believe. That is one of the reasons why Verizon did not pick up the Apple Iphone the first go around, because Apple refused to make a CDMA capable phone. Dumb.

I got my Droid Incredible in July after waiting 5 weeks on back order, the longest I think I’ve ever waited for any product, let me tell you this is the best phone! I recently went on a road trip and compared the GPS on the phone to that in my car the phone was more accurate and being able to see slow traffic ahead saved me in many ways from finding an alternate, gas idling, time etc. If someone were to ask me it would be a no brainer, I’ve converted three people in my office from IPhones to Droids and I know they’re very happy now, not just with Verizon but to have a great phone! As they say “Droid Does”….
