Me thinks. It is not about politics. What all of this is really about is borrowing. Nice house I think to myself. What about that mortgage you say to your neighbor. No one forced you into borrowing that much money. Living way beyond your means. That is what this is about. You really cannot blame the government. You had the paperwork. You knew how much you had to pay back. You do not have a lifetime contract to be employed. Now do you? Is it for the government to warn you about what is left to common sense? $20,000 car? $175,000 houses? Must be nice. When you can get these things I guess ignorance is bliss. When you cannot get these things common sense brings you back to reality. Is everyone responsibly for your folly?

Here are some more things the Democrats have lined up for us. Even Obama voters (who are illiterate with regard to economics) know in their hearts that the following will further hurt an already desperate economy.

-Higher Corporate Taxes.
-Higher Marginal Rates on Personal Income.
-Elimination of the Bush Tax Cuts.
-New Value-Added Tax (VAT).
-Higher Minimum Wage (increases unemployment).
-Cap and Trade Tax (affects everything you buy, using electricity….breathing).
-Higher Insurance Premiums.
-Higher Capital Gains Taxes.
-Higher Death Taxes.

Ann Coulter said it well:

"... the problem is that voting for Obama a year ago was a fashion statement, much like it was once a fad to buy Beanie Babies, pet rocks and Cabbage Patch Kids. But instead of ending up with a ridiculous dust-collector at the bottom of your closet, the Obama fad leaves you with higher taxes, a reduced retirement fund, no job and a one-year wait for an MRI."

Sally and your ilk:

We were worried about Bush's economic policies, but if you didn't like them and don't complain vigorously about Obama and the Democrats, you are not only not knowledgeable about economics but you are dishonest as well.

Here are some Obama economic "accomplishments" that Bush never "achieved":

10.2% unemployment. Highest in 26 years.
$787 billion stimulus pkg. so unemployment wouldn't go past 8%. See above.
Highest budget deficit of any nation ever.
Accumulated U.S. debt first 230 years = $11 trillion. Next 10 years = $22 billion.
Health "plan" that will ration care, break fragile economy, increase premiums.
Cap and tax bill adds $3,000 in expenses to avg. U.S. family.

Add to this list the first domestic terrorist attack since 9/11.

The sincerity of people sometimes escapes me. However the above comment is about right. No one cared what they were up to. Live for today. Cruising along. Didn't matter what they were doing. It all sounded so good and righteous. They all looked so responsible and upstanding. Deal is many knew what they were up to. Now you squeal because you want to crank up that kind of irresponsible if not deadly behavior again. Welcome to your negligence.

Most of you all should have been worried about Bush. If you had been more concerned about what this man was doing then you might still have had a job!

It's no wonder that there is general lack of respect for our "friends" in Washington D.C.

Every program they design solves not the problem at hand and creates new consequences.

With the "real" unemployment rate at above 17%, what do these clowns do?

Spend money that we don't have ( real stewarts of the American trust, aren't they), on programs that have limited benefits foe which we will pay in spades for generations to come, without consideration of the consequences.

And, WHAT A STIMULUS! No sustainable job creation.

To create a productive society requires private investment and capital formation.

Let's cut taxes, encourage investment. and set us on a path where we invest in innovation and create sustainable jobs.

As a small business person, I have had it!

Until our government understands that I risk my capital every day and bet I can sustain my little business, I will not put our team in financial peril by creating any new positions .

Sorry...Blame the government, particularly the Pelosi/Reed crowd and your friend in need, the Obama Administration!!!!

My employer pulled the plug me on me will be 2 years in December. But I'm faring about as well as I make it to be. It's tough but hardships don't last and those who are already hardy survivals do. I consider myself one of the survivals of the 50's and 60's, whose life is one of hardship and daily challenge and I am learning to weather this period of high unemployment and lean times by being creative ways of marketing my skills and experiences. You have to ask yourself all the time, "Is my net working?" Networking is a critical key to continue to weather the storm of high unemployment challenges.

Used to be the day labor people charged you to pick you up and take you there. Used to deduct from your money lunch and all kinds of things you walked away with nothing. Now you can stand out there. Places all over Atlanta metro. People just stand out there and get picked up for work. The day labor business are all closed down. Now you keep what you make and no one deducts it. Ain't no shame in working, agreed.

My layoff occured in Nov 2008 and was employed in commercial real estate development - an industry truly in depression at this point. Chris and Sean nailed the point about HR dept's creating bad karma with their insensitive treatment of job applicants-I have experienced plenty of that same treatment over the past year. Managed to line up a modest consulting job with my former employer this past week but it's really just a band aid. Stay out of debt, folks, learn all you can about green (even if you think it's overhyped) as it applies to your livelihood and hang in there..
