I plan to stick with my XP Pro and IE6. They work great and I have had no problems at all except when I tried to do updates like SP3, etc. So, I don't do updates anymore and everything works fine. It's funny how newer isn't always better!

Ever since I gave WANG a try, I will never (directly) pay another single dime to that entity of incompetence and substandard quality known as “LINUX.”

I hope that deal you made with Satan to get rich off of peddling oversimplified software to the unsuspecting masses pays off for you, open-source Norwegian boobies.

It not just the software. Many of the problems I have experienced are with the poor quality of the hardware and integration thereof. I am sick of the "windows" value for money comparison because Apple products cost more. I am sure 7 will be an improvement and I will upgrade in time (on my remaining MSFT based systems) I will not buy any other Dell, HP, hardware unless forced.

Chas: Because Windows 7 has the same compatibility as Vista, there wont be half as many compatibility problems with 7 as most new software written since vista was released was written to run on Vista. Instead, not only should most new stuff be compatible, but old software runs a whole lot better than it did on Vista.

I own a Mac and a Windows PC, and while i do like my Mac, i find it necessary to duel boot with Windows because there are still a lot of programs i can't run on Mac OS. I got the Snow Leopard upgrade last month and i have to say, i am completely underwhelmed by the upgrade; though it did reduce hard disk space needed, it didn't speed the system up significantly, and as far as i can tell, the only noticeable differences are that menus are now black instead of white, and you can scroll through the pop-up menus.

I've been running Windows 7 Enterprise edition for the past month (the company i work for got it) and there really are significant improvements, as well as the ability to run significantly faster while using up a lot less resources. This really is the real deal with Windows 7, and i really think it's going to give Mac a run for their money.

I just can't help but think that Apple released Snow Leopard just for the sake or releasing a new OS...

To follow Gary B if it is difficult to go from XP to 7 on the basic machine Has anyone thought about the problems that can and/or may come up when you try to get existing software to work with 7. Or the best question yet is when are the software suppliers going to write the necessary software to support the new system. Was this not part of the problem with Vista ? I do believe that it will take more than a year to get 7 accepted due the above question.

I work in the Microsoft world - which is pretty much anywhere in business . It's not a matter of which is better, but which do I use when it comes time to put food on the table. My wife has a MAC and loves it. But we had put Parallels (which allows you to run a virtual session of Windows) on it so she could use the programs she needed to run her business. So here's hoping Window 7 is better, it's always nice to get a good upgrade.

Skip the Windows upgrade and just get a Mac. If you need to upgrade from XP to 7, you better have an IT degree !!! ....it's a very involved process, to the point of being insane...lol....Just get a Mac, you'll be much happier !

For all those out there that talk about PCs' (Windows, Linux, et al) suseptibility to hacking and viruses vs. Mac's strength against the same, I have one question for you. Why do you think that is? Because Mac's are that much tougher to hack or that much tougher against viruses? Nope, think again. It would have to do with the focus of those attacks, there are more PCs therefore there are more attacking programs written for them. If there were more Macs, it would be reversed.
As far as Vista, hasn't been too bad. Had a few problems with software compatibility. Will probably upgrade within the year.
