Power Breakfast: Strategic hiring, Obama peace prize, state revenue drops
I thought about leading with the decline in state revenue, but decided on a more upbeat story instead.
At least one Atlanta law firm is hiring in this recession by going after business in logical growth areas. There’s no substitute for smart strategic thinking.
AJC reporter Peralte Paul writes that McKenna Long & Aldridge, Atlanta’s seventh-largest law firm, expects its attorney roster to grow to 470 by year’s end, up from 450 at the end of 2007. Many other firms have been cutting.
McKenna grew those practices it thought would get a larger volume of activity, Paul reports. In 2007, before the housing market collapse, it hired more bankruptcy and corporate restructuring lawyers. The rationale: Real estate was becoming too big a bubble and had to burst, Paul writes.
The firm also added attorneys to its large government practice, which has grown to about 100 lawyers from 75 in anticipation of federal stimulus spending.

President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize… Before everyone gets crazy about why/how this could happen, consider this: four of the five members of the voting committee are socialist party, labour party or progress party members. Only one is in the Norwegian Conservative Party. ‘Nuff said.

Here is another one for you, AW. The Navy has named a ship after Medgar Evers. Don’t know who he was? That’s right the month of February is your least favorite month. Mr. Evers was a field secretary for the NAACP in Mississippi when he was gunned down by a white supremacist in his driveway in the early sixties. Careful AW, don’t choke on your sausage biscuit.

You people (probably the same person) need to get over your feeeeelings.
1. urccjss, should a “peace prize” be awarded to someone simply because he “cares about peace” or should the honoree actually have accomplished something? Obama still has U.S. troops in Iraq, has escalated the war in Afghanistan (but won’t give the commander the troops he requested so the war could end more quickly, i.e. victory), has reneged (not a racist word Corey) on a U.S. agreement to provide a defensive missile shield for Poland and Croatia, and has distanced himself from Israel–making Iran’s nuclear missile program a near certainty. When that happens, that entire region will be “nuclearized” by other countries wanting to defend themselves from Iran. How’s that for peace?!
2. Medgar Evers was a NAACP official in Mississippi who was gunned down in his driveway by Byron De La Beckwith. There are many people gunned down in the City of Atlanta weekly. Should we name naval vessels after them? Perhaps F-22 Raptors–no, we can’t do that because Obama doesn’t want us to have any more of them. Interestingly, the ship named after Evers delivers food and supplies to other ships–which is fitting given the redistributionist nature of the Democrat party. What’s next: The U.S.S. Charlie Rangel?
3. Reality, it should be apparent to you (are you a rocket scnientist?) that Obama and the majority of the Nobel committee are, shall we say, simpatico? Both the committee and Obama believe in collectivism, are statists, and like to reward people who apologize for atrocities committed by the U.S. such as (a) defending ourselves, and (b) defending other countries. You probably value “diversity”, so what would be wrong with having more people who actually contribute something useful to society on the Nobel committee?
Leftists believe one’s feeeeelings are what matters. Not their morals, ethics, actions–their feeeeelings. Rather than bringing peace through strength, Obama invites provocation by our enemies by signaling acquiescence to our enemies.
You leftist statists are a pitiful lot.

RGB…you’re an idiot. Young Evers was snatched from his warm bed during the night by racists like you because he whistled at a white woman..he wasn’t a street thug selling drugs. So you begrudge honoring his innocent memory over a vessel’s name? Conservatives. Warmongering, selfish, self-centered, and greedy. I am proud to be liberal!!!
