The Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Lottery are teaming up on a new scratch-off ticket that will debut after Labor Day.
The ticket will cost $5 and will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, officials said. Players can win up to $500,000. Other prizes include season-ticket packages and a trip to a Falcons’ away game on the team plane.
“While we’ve had a sports sponsorship with the Falcons in the past, this is the first time we’ve offered a game with their name on it,” said Lottery spokesman J.B. Landroche. “We’ve never done this before with the NFL.”
Georgia Lottery paid a licensing fee to the Falcons.
While it is being introduced at the beginning of the season, there is no expiration date, Landroche said.
Falcons’ and Lottery officials are holding a news conference Thursday to discuss more details.

See this article on the front page: Are we losing HOPE?
IF Georgia would step up to the plate and starting planning and discussing how can we keep money in the State of Georgia instead allowing money to flow to 10 or 11 other states then the hope would be funded. For instance: The Mega Millions would be just perfect if it was only allow for GA residents. No, but we are sharing the money with so many other states. Just think if we (Georgia) was the only ones that could collect off of the Mega Millions, everyone would be well off and the money stays here in Georiga. Now, with the Atlanta Falcons, I can’t wait to see how the tickets would look, but Margaret D. please start distributing the money. That’s how you get people to play. Not just winning a free ticket here and there or winning $2-$5 here and there. Plan accordingly and watch what happens…. Plan and simple keep the money in your own state!!! How many Georgians have one the Mega Millions???? I bet you can count on just one hand. I’m talking about the WHOLE Jackpot, not just $250K… Go ahead and count I’m waiting… I thought so….. See ya on the next post.

Since the Falcons are losers, surely someone will win off of these?

I am surprised that the No Fun League signed off on this too. But they probably have done this in other states.

In response to IBleedRed&Black, if it was limited to just the state of GA, the jackpots would be nowhere near the levels they currently reach. Since it is open to multiple states, that increases the number of participants exponentially.

Why don’t we have Falcon’s and Braves license plates in Georgia? I see other states that have their teams on them…or am I making that up? I would spend extra money for that though could generate some needed revenue for the state!

We used to have a state lottery jackpot. The Mega Millions sells more tickets, since the pots are bigger. The lottery is in the business to sell tickets not to try to keep the winnings in the state.

Plus, a bunch of other NFL teams are doing the same thing at the beginning of this season too. Plus, the MLB, NHL and NBA already have entered that lottery field, so I’m not surprised.

And IBleedRed&Black – If only GA participated in Megamillions that jackpot would be TINY compared to what we’re use to seeing now. I mean, the lines are already so much longer when the jackpot hits the triple digits, they wouldn’t be able to sell any tickets if the jackpot was just 5 million or so. Powerball and megamillions both just look for ways to grow the jackpot.

Dirty Dawg & Remake22:
I totally understand your comments, but when we DID have our own lottery “Big Game” the GA Lottery and HOPE program was doing just fine, I assume. Plus, my point is that since reading this other article about the HOPE has me puzzled. Why and how is the program losing funds?? Where is the money?? Remake22, you are so right that the lines are terribly long, but don’t you think that the State of Georgia and Ms. Margaret D, can do something to keep this fund alive. I’m so strickened to this issue, because I relied on this fund when I was going to school. And trust me this fund really helps a lot of kids out.

Yes, the Falcons do indeed have license plates, and Mike Vick should still be MAKING license plates.

By the time you keep playing the Falcons lottery, you could have bought your own ticket and have picked your seat. Actually, after going to the game on Saturday, every seat in the dome is now a good seat with the new HD Jumbo screens. They were clearer than the field.

Becky and wombat are products of GA inbreeding so they don’t have a clue when it comes to reality so don’t fault them if they don’t know what they are talking about when they make comments on this blog.

IBleedRed&Black,
The Big Game was not a game for GA only. It was in other states just like Mega Millions and Powerball. HOPE isn’t losing money either. It’s just that skyrocketing tuition and fees mean fewer students may benefit from a limited pool of money that’s growing at a slower rate.

Since GA Lottery switched from Lotto South to Win for Life (both games are just Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia), sales for the “state lottery” game have gone way down. More people were happy with a $3-10 million dollar prize, than a prize of $52,000 a year for life. That leads to less money for the state lottery pool.

MMMM……sounds like Falcons trying to sneak and help make up some more ticket revenue. After that preseason game last weekend and if that’s the case they need to definitely wait until the Eagles game to before revealing this one.
