Small business is said to be the foundation of our economy. Well, here’s another example of how weak that foundation has become in Georgia.
The average wage paid by small businesses in Georgia has declined substantially, according to a payroll services company that compiles the data, AJC reporter David Markiewicz writes.
In its Small Business Scorecard, which uses payroll information gathered from about 25,000 client companies across all 50 states, SurePayroll found the average annual paycheck paid by small businesses in Georgia decreased to $25,556 from $28,963 in June 2008.
Those wages were not high to begin with, so the decline hurts that much more.
