If that 2nd stimulus is going to go directly to the American people, then yes! Otherwise, NO. Give the American citizens the money to pay off their debts (foreclosures, student loans, credit cards, etc.). The money will be going right back into the economy we're trying to stimulate. After all, these are the same institutions that failed...why should they receive welfare assistance from the government and expect our money too? Sure, there will be some citizens that won't do right and at the end of the day, that will still be their problem. but there are many of us that will pay off that debt and never go there again, just need a 2nd chance like the financial industry received.

Bill, as the guy across the hall from me, who leans more to the left and voted for Obama, keeps saying: "Obama, if you want to be a leader, LEAD!" This abdication of responsibility to Congress reminds me of his voting record the short time he was there. "Present!"

Finn - There has not been an actual balanced budget for many decades. The Clinton "balanced budget" was an accounting fairy tale. Bush, however, went on a neo-con spending frenzy - both domestic and through war spending. It was embarrassing and I was never in support of his love of pork and lack of a pen.

However, now we are going to spend ourselves into oblivion. Just because Obama and the liberal congress are screwing up our country does not mean Bush did a good job. I am all for a thorough review of the Bush presidency from a historical perspective, (and don't believe he will get a Truman-like vindication from historians and Chicago) but right now we need to focus on what the Congress and Obama are trying to do before we come out like Iceland.

BTW.... McCool.

Clinton NEVER had a surplus.

He came within 19 billion dollars ONE YEAR. That ain't a surplus dude.

The dems claim a surplus but the fact is while Clinton reduced our federal spending the national debt increased EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Do your homework genius..... He borrowed from the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for his reductions. How can that possibly be considered a surplus? HE BORROWED THE MONEY.... HE INCREASED OUR NATIONAL DEBT!

Atlanta Native,

I feel bad about Hammering so much on Reagan. I disagreed with his policies, but he did a lot to improve the mood of the country.

Re: FDR, True that his stimulus efforts were not enough to pull us out of the depression. It took WWII to do that. But, why did the war pull us out? Because it was an even bigger government stimulus. If I recall, we were spending something like 40% of GDP on the war. Huge deficit spending. That is what finally ended the depression. It suggests that he biggest problem with the stimulus, and the next one if we have it, is that it is not big enough. My biggest complaint about Obama to date is that he seems content to let congress figure these things out instead of taking a strong lead. Preserving political capital, but sometimes you have to use it.

Finn McCool cites the New York Times...... Whoa aren't they a credible source? LOL !!!!!!!!!!

Their writers steal others material and call it their own. They invent stories about political candidates and when the stories are proven to be false they refuse to retract.

They can't afford the building they operate out of because they lose money hand over fist.

The polls they conduct are intentionally biased toward their politicians of choice.

They refuse to publish anything that is critical of the current administration.

The New York Times used to be, "The paper of record". Not any more.... The NYT is just a sad, pathetic reason to stop chopping down trees.

Bush gave the people a bailout last January in the form of tax refund checks. It helped - it gave us an uptick for 1 quarter. 1 quarter.

You think that's going to work this time?

Some of you are confusing bailouts with the stimulus package.

Stimulus packages go to the states to jump-start spending. No one ever said the package would work this year, much less within the first 4 months of this year.

Bailouts go to fools who got us into trouble. Bailouts are what we gave the dumbazzes behind the S&L crisis 20 years ago and what we gave to more bankers last year.

atlanta Native, we can give Obama 40 years and he won't abuse our country the way W did with just 8. Don't forget - we had a suprlus when W took office before he gave it all out to the rich with his tax breaks.
