You may be cutting back on some expenses, but you still want to enjoy yourself this summer by paying for things like barbecue grills and pool memberships.
A new survey conducted for Chase Card Services found that Americans are paying for summer fun by mowing their own lawns more than they did in the past, turning down the air conditioning and performing repair jobs on their own, the Associated Press reported.
The survey of 1,004 adults also found that just 15 percent said they were planning to cut back on activities, such as summer camp or Little League. Four times as many said they would not, AP reported.
Does this jibe with what you are doing?

The best things in life are free.
We found a cute little cove at Lake Lanier where we can picnic, take the dogs, and dip in the water. And there’s never anyone else around. Very private.
Tons of friends in neighborhoods with pool/tennis memberships.
Free movies at local parks on Friday nights.
Catching lightning bugs in the back yard.
Running through the sprinkler, yes we still do that in my neighborhood (we don’t have a pool).
Community suppers, where everyone brings a dish. You really get to know your neighbors. We’ve done this in my driveway, everyone gathers and brings a dish…….I have some awesome neighbors.
Festivals, parks, lakes, etc. You really don’t need to go broke for summer fun!!!

We actually went on a 7-day vacation out of state this summer. However, I really shopped around for hotel rates and didn’t pay more than $85 a night (tax included) on any of the 7 nights for good accommodations. We took advantage of the contiental breakfast, ate cheap for lunch and only ate out expensively for two meals. We were selective about what we spent money on but still had a great time.

A backyard swing, a book, a glass of lemonade and kids playing in the pool..Doesn’t get much better than that for me…

Hopefully lots of folks will be spending their summer travel dollars locally – lots of great family friendly destinations like Lake Hartwell and the North Georgia mountains are right in our backyard. Renting by owner through VRBO saves families lots of money over booking through management companies. Have fun and stay safe!
