The pastor with a doctorate in stupidity

In the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Henry Jones (played by Sean Connery) – father of the protagonist – tells a Nazi SS officer, “goose-stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of burning them,” referring to the burning of books that Adolf Hitler’s regime found to be offensive to his ideology.

The suggestion is one that Terry Jones, the self-proclaimed Florida pastor (and no relationship to the Indiana Jones), who made news last year by announcing he would burn copies of the Quran on the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, should follow.

Jones eventually backed down from his threat, giving his word he would not burn Islam’s holy book, after outcry from across the global.  But promises are not what they used to be, even for a pastor.

On March 20th, Jones’ self-styled “church,” the Dove World Outreach Center, put the Quran on “trial” for what he called “International Judge the Quran Day.” The pastor acted as the judge over the proceeding; with Mohamed el Hassan, an Imam from Texas, presenting the case for his religion.

The outcome was preordained. The “jurors” found the Quran guilty of “training and promoting” terrorist activities, the “death, rape, and torture of people worldwide whose only crime is ‘not being of Islamic faith,’” and “crimes against women, against minorities, against Christians, and with the promoting of prejudice and racism against anyone who is not a Moslem.”

Jones had been warned previously that publicly burning the Quran could place lives – including American troops – in danger. The pastor’s zeal for publicity, however, trumped what little common sense he seemed to have possessed last Fall, and he gleefully pressed ahead this Spring.  Those warnings became reality. Shortly after the news of the Quran-burning broke, Muslims in Afghanistan violently protested; killing seven people and injuring at least 90 in separate attacks; and more may be in the offing. Jones, however, absolves himself of all responsibility, and acts the martyr; which he may hope he becomes.

The First Amendment protects free speech and expression, even if it is unpopular. There is little question that Jones was within his rights to do what he did, but that does not mean he should have; and it does make him any less the complete idiot he truly is.

Lets see,6000 troop,s are dead even before this incident, seems to me any excuse on muslim,s part to kill is justified while extreme liberal,s allow it to happen,my faith in this government is non-extant,political war is suicide.

It is stated that only 9% of north americans have a passport that allows them too travel the know World. and i for one are grateful for that, the world gave up to you it’s poor and down trodden for a reason, it appers you have forgotten why. if you don’t like the answers, then ask a better question, because yet again the world is starting to draw the curtains around itself and move to a tune of it’s own making, just as your country and peoples are awaking to the world.ignorance, greed, and arrogance is no excuse for any persons and or nation

Seems to me muslims are the problem, not the burning of a BOOK. No one would have said anything or made a fuss had Jones burned a Holy Bible, nor should they have since it too is a BOOK. Muslims have no right to kill anyone based on something as insignificant as burning a BOOK.

I AGREE THE PASTOR IS STUPID, BUT HOW STUPID IS A CULTURE THAT KILLS PEOPLE BECAUSE SOMEONE BURNS A BOOK OR PENS A CARTOON (DENMARK) OR WRITES A BOOK (SALMON RUSKIE sp?). THE BOOK BURNER IS ONE GUY OR MAYBE A HANDFULL, THE CULTURE THAT KILLS OR APPROVES THE KILLING NUMBERS MILLIONS. YOU COULD BURN A CARLOAD OF BIBLES AND NO ONE WOULD CARE.

BY THE WAY OUR SUPREME COURT JUST APPROVED (8 TO 1) DEMONSTRATIONS AT MILITARY FUNERALS WITH SIGNS SAYING TO THE EFFECT “WE LOVE DEAD SOLDIERS.” HOW GOOFY IS THAT??

WHY does the mainstream media never report on all the muslim violence against Christians and others in the middle east region?

Still, I hope that many angry muslims killed each other over this ‘international event’ of the book burning.

Whenever muslims extremists do something terrible, there are countless cries of “Why aren’t the muslim leaders condemning these acts?”

Why aren’t tens of thousands of Christian ministers condemning ths pastor/church for burning the Koran?

THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING!

Freedom of speech does not give you the right to yell “fire” in a crowded theater. This is an old truism, but it applies none the less. When you know that your speech will result in death and destruction, you are as culpable as those who actually commit the acts.

Jone’s act is that of a bully-child, throwing stone-filled snowballs at someone and ducking back behind momma’s skirts.

What does that make the rioting Muslims who literally have blood on their hands?

Yep “Another View” there are idiots and bigots and know nothing neanderthals and murderers plenty enough to go around on both sides — as you are living proof of same. Do you ever listen to yourself? Obviously not. I almost laughed out loud at your line about “our treatment of abortion doctors.” You are so compassionate. I assume that your next iditotic prose will express your concern about the treatment of the German and Unkranian guards at Auchwitz after WW II. I’m no radical on abortion. There are times when it is justified. But inconvenience is not a justifiable rationale, but that’s just me. But your stupid comment and your approach to brand all Christians as immoral and hypocrital due to the actions of a few crackpots, and about how Christians have never had a problem with murder . . . blah blah blah highlights just demonstrate your own biases and the shalllowness of your thining. “The treatment of our abotion doctors” . . . I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I agree with you Bob. Exposing stuidity and ignorance is what is needed to eliminate this kind of drama.

Terry Jones has the right to burn any book that he wants to burn and to say whatever he wants to say. But there is a time and a place for everything, and I know that this is the same wacko who has been protesting at the funerals of US servicemen. The effrontery to protest at ANYONES funeral is beyond belief, why would you want to torment the family of someone who has just lost a loved one? He is a disgrace to the Unites States of America

Ray,
If an American citizen staged or directed an attack on Saudi Arabia then claimed responsibilty we would hand him over. And for that matter Bin Laden would of been extradited from Saudi Arabia if they had him. Not too mention we wouldn’t allow an anti-muslim terrorist organization to operate with impunity in this country.

BTW murderers are responsible for their own actions whatever motivation they claim. And screw the Koran open it up to any page and you will find god cursing, ridiculing, condemning and/or killing infidels or encouraging these actions. Muslims are violent because their religion demands violence.
