Obama’s latest “green” boondoggle

President Barack Obama is not letting the failure of his administration to secure passage of the multi-trillion dollar cap-and-trade legislation before the Congress broke for its election recess, slow his effort to impose “green” mandates on businesses and consumers.

Just last week, it was reported that the Administration was preparing to intervene yet again in the marketplace; this time by placing a host of new energy regulatory mandates on producers of household and commercial appliances, and threatening fines for failing to comply.

In addition to these restrictive mandates, the administration will offer loans and tax breaks to companies producing these “green” alternatives.  Incentives would be offered to consumers to buy these appliances, which they would not otherwise be inclined to purchase because of their higher cost and less desirable performance.

Any incentives, whether offered to the consumer or the business gaining an unfair advantage in the market, will of course be funded on the backs of taxpayers. Given that we currently face trillion-dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, it is hard to grasp why we are engaging in costly programs that otherwise would fail.

The answer, of course, is that liberals like Obama believe so strongly in the benefits of “going green” that virtually any cost to push the American consumer in that direction, regardless of how strongly they resist, is a small price to pay for a greener world.  And, if the Congress will not for whatever reason go along, then like a parent forcing an unruly child to eat their vegetables, the President will just have to do so by regulatory fiat.

nelson;
” The goal of cap and trade is to limit the rise in global temperatures to 3.6 degrees above pre-industrial levels by 2050 by reducing carbon dioxide and other emissions from companies as part of a larger plan for curbing global warming.”
Where do you liberals make this stuff up from? We can’t get an accurate weather prediction for tomorrow yet you believe that you can tell the future? Did you know that there are times in the “pre-industrial” world that the CO2 was 6 times what it is today? If you want to reduce CO2 emissions we should subsidize solar the way we have oil. But did you know you create vast amounts of CO2 making a solar panel.
By the way our government does not, has not and never will make a profit, and if you believe they have please tell me when…
So please explain to me in plain English, how giving money to a bunch of idiots makes clean air.

Real American,
Please put down the bong, Cool-aid and get the needle out of your arm, and since when is a socialist a “real American”? A president who cares about the world, he was elected to care about American, not everybody else. He is being such a true leader; he has lied to the American people at every turn. “Give me this trillion dollars and the unemployment will not go above 8%. LIE “If you like your healthcare you won’t have to change” 100% LIE. “We will not cover illegal aliens on this bill” LIE. “I will not raise taxes on people making under $250,000 a year” 100% LIE shall I keep going, I could fill the page with the Obozo lies. Since you are a “real American” I bet you complained when people called president Bush, just W or Bush… if you are a real American we don’t need you… I am a real American and Obozo is a real loser, how many lies before you liberals get it?

Hey, “real American,” I see that your blind worship of Barry has precluded you from seeing that he is Bush’s third term.

Do you approve of him continuing not one, not two, but THREE undeclared, unconstitutional wars?
Do you approve of him continuing Bush’s torture policies?
Do you approve of him assuming power to assassinate Americans without due process?
Do you approve of him wanting to regulate and monitor our internet usage?
Do you approve of him continuing Bush’s policy of warrantless spying on American citizens?

Do you approve of his neoconservative foreign policy?

“Real American,” your boy Barry is a neocon, corporatist sellout. My condolences.

Keep towing the line Bob. The US has a rich history of the government stepping in when capitalism and corporations refuse to do the right thing. Upton Sinclair anyone? The bottom line is that businesses and corporations are about their bottom line (as they should be) but when their actions effect our future then they must be regulated.

You use this as a political talking point, I see it as one of the most important issues of the next 100 years.

Also, you sound like O’Reilly. Failure Administration? Check back in 10, no 4 years.

Somebody up near the top saidsomething about the “leaders of modern science”. By the tone of his comments, I assume a meant Union of Concerned Scientists (or similar). For an interesting perspective on their definition of science, go to their website and look at the various bios. Try to find one that includes a degree in any physical science or engineering. Awhile back I went through about twenty. Almost all had degrees in Public Policy, Public Adminstration, or Political Science, and one (at least) didn’t indicate any post secondary education at all.

Anyone who remembers grade school social studies should realize that the climate has been changing constantly (at varing rates at different times) ever since a bunch a dust agglomerated and became this spheroid.

To “Real”:

If Rush and Shawn are uneducated dolts, then it should be easy to defeat them with a competing on-the-air liberal radio personality–shouldn’t it? Given your command on the English language, perhaps you should make this opportunity your life’s work.

Just put an Obama-chosen egghead, elitist Socialist on the air and the above-referenced gentlemen will have their careers ended. Rush’s 22+ year nationally syndicated show will come to a screeching halt.

Or will it?

People generally seek the truth–which explains why lib-statists aren’t successful on radio programs. Add to that the fact that the liberati are dull, boring, humorless people and that pretty well assures liberals will either have a short-lived radio program or will “command” an audience that will fit in a telephone booth.

In addition to being wrong, liberals are boring people.

Mark: Oil barron, not “barren” Barren describes your intellect. And if you don’t think that the earth needs you – find a solution for that – no big loss to the rest of us.
Nelson: You assume that cap and tax will work since you assume that CO2 actually causes global warming. this can NEVER be proven to even a high degree of certainty – to enacting that legislation – killing jobs inn the process – is negligent and stupid.
By the way Nelson – how many SUV’s and power plants were around during the Midieval Warming Period when temperatures were hotter than today?

Only those with their heads in the sand can deny that the global temperature is rising. The degree to which man’s activity has contributed to this phenomenon is subject to reasoned debate. But the consequences of this rise in temperature are already being seen around the globe in the form of a rise in sea levels, the loss of polar and Antarctic ice and the severity of weather, both hot and cold.

We can sit back and wait for the worst to happen or we can take reasonable measures to at least insure mankind is contributed as little as possible to the rise in greenhouse gases which are at least partly responsible for the changes we are seeing.

Barr’s view is to just let businesses continue to do what they have been doing for decades without a second thought. He sees any reasonable regulation as worse than death. We can see where that “hands off” philosophy has worked so well in the financial services sector and the offshore drilling market.

Soon we will be rid of those pesky reporters and opinion writers. Some numbers: Reporters and Correspondents

Employed in U.S.: 61,600
Change expected in next decade: -8%
Average salary: $34,850

Consolidation and convergence are the top reasons the news industry is shrinking. News outlets are increasingly sharing each other’s content, which means they need fewer reporters and correspondents.

The news business gets hit particularly hard during economic downturns as most revenue comes from advertising, and companies spend less on advertising during a slump. Improving technology is one bright light, which could drive some employment in online or mobile divisions.

Competition is expected to be intense for jobs at large and national newspapers, broadcast stations and magazines. The best opportunities are expected to be with smaller, local news outlets as well as for online news organizations, as technology generates demand for online reporters or mobile news units. Writers who can handle scientific or technical subjects will have an advantage.

Please let the elected administration move us forward and get our heads out of the sand. So Mr. Barr why don’t you still hold elected office, maybe your time in public office was a “boondoggle”. Eight more years ought to be enough to get us out of the ditch left by the previous failed administrations, Peace

Where was this banter, the President is spending like crazy when Bush was President? Nowhere. It’s not about race, it’s about what you say is right and Bush will do. Obama won’t do what you say, because for 8 dang years, what you said was right was WRONG. Which is why we are in this mess! I mean, you idiots even ridicule President Obama for speaking correctly with a teleprompter. What the heck kind of mess is that? Over 3 million jobs created under Bush doing a good economy that he inherited from President Clinton. Hannity claim 10 million jobs were created under W. Sounds like some “fuzzy” math to me. Your scare tactics don’t scare me, a real American. You can say “socialist, communist, the color red, marxism. Then you dummies want to jump over Bush, W. Bush back to Reagan, like he was the greatest President ever, nobody remembers or cares. You guys know how Bush, the C.I.A. and Reagan push President Carter out of office. Carter is always telling truth, but like your moms say, the truth will hurt, and that’s what he does. He hurts you every time he speaks. Just sit ya butts down while President Obama fixes this mess.
