Obama’s latest “green” boondoggle

President Barack Obama is not letting the failure of his administration to secure passage of the multi-trillion dollar cap-and-trade legislation before the Congress broke for its election recess, slow his effort to impose “green” mandates on businesses and consumers.

Just last week, it was reported that the Administration was preparing to intervene yet again in the marketplace; this time by placing a host of new energy regulatory mandates on producers of household and commercial appliances, and threatening fines for failing to comply.

In addition to these restrictive mandates, the administration will offer loans and tax breaks to companies producing these “green” alternatives.  Incentives would be offered to consumers to buy these appliances, which they would not otherwise be inclined to purchase because of their higher cost and less desirable performance.

Any incentives, whether offered to the consumer or the business gaining an unfair advantage in the market, will of course be funded on the backs of taxpayers. Given that we currently face trillion-dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, it is hard to grasp why we are engaging in costly programs that otherwise would fail.

The answer, of course, is that liberals like Obama believe so strongly in the benefits of “going green” that virtually any cost to push the American consumer in that direction, regardless of how strongly they resist, is a small price to pay for a greener world.  And, if the Congress will not for whatever reason go along, then like a parent forcing an unruly child to eat their vegetables, the President will just have to do so by regulatory fiat.

I could not figure out what clothes to wear this morning. Maybe Mr. Obama will develop a list of government guidelines for how we should dress each day.

The goal of cap and trade is to limit the rise in global temperatures to 3.6 degrees above pre-industrial levels by 2050 by reducing carbon dioxide and other emissions from companies as part of a larger plan for curbing global warming.

To achieve this goal the U.S. government should stadily tighten the cap until emissions are reduced to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.

To finance the plan the government would sell permits to companies that would allow them to emit so many metric tons of pollutants into the air, gradually reducing it over time. This would generate income for the government of 50 billion dollars going up to as high as 300 billion dollars.

Soooo, as I understand it, the populance would benefit by having cleaner air to breathe and the government would benefit by making a profit.

Your either reincarnated from a previous century or you still have political aspirations and are therefore pandering to your uneducated base.
I believe you are too intelligent to ignore the leaders of modern science; but, I could be wrong.

Bob,
We had a webnar meeting last week with the White House on this very subject. It was presented on Facebook ( what a joke). This program of grants and loans involve BILLIONS of dollars and this event was their effort to explain the semantics of it. It lasted less than an hour and was the single most non-professional presentation I have ever seen. The vast amount of the live responses were” just what the hell was that” !!
You could have given the script to a ten year old and they could have made more sense of it. The people of this country have no idea that we are asleep at the wheel and if we don’t do something next month I am truly afraid we may not be able to survive without some form of collapse and painful restructuring.

Meanwhile, another awful report on unemployment today: Only 65,000 private jobs created, a total of 95,000 jobs lost due to census jobs going away, no change in the unemployment rate. Great job, Barry! Oh, I forgot, it’s Bush’s fault.

What is the use of having a job and having our economy improve if we cannot breathe the air or drink the water?

We cannot sacrifice one for the other. We use the Earth and it resources to survive. We cannot neglect them or abuse them. Otherwise we will not survive. Will a job help us when we are dead?

If you’d like to substitute Jews or plastic beer rings or oil exploration or big macs or reefer or large waistlines go right ahead, you’re a good citizen.

You are a good citizen, aren’t you? Hard to tell, since that definition is changing by the day.

Thanks President Obama for being a true leader around the world but continue to have to fight these old 1955 20th century idiots who are not going to be here any way.

The air smells fine to me, and the water tastes fine. Maybe if the “sky is falling” crowd didn’t have such a poor history of getting it right, we’d find it easier to believe them. It also doesn’t look good when the main repository of data for the global warming fanatics is run by people who admit in email correspondence that much of what they’ve been saying is either A.) made up or B.) wildly exaggerated.

The problem you and most liberals DON”T see is they REALLY don’t care at all about what you hold dear. I have been in and around DC in the field of energy for 30 years. The ones in the ‘Know” can tell you pretty quick they have done no homework on real issues and played to the lowest common denominator, your fears…all the while playing the old shell game to gain more political ground.

Nelson, do you not understand that the businesses being taxed will make up the difference by either raising prices, cutting employess, or both?

Whether the government takes the money out of your paycheck or raises taxes on companies you buy products from, the money is going to be taken out of YOUR pocket either way.

Liberals are the three monkeys “Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil” about all things Obama. The truth is that America has waken up to the sham that is the Obama administration. His hard push straight to the arms of socialism continues. wouldn’t be surprised if he authors an ammendment in 2012 where he cannot be voted out of office. He is truly a blind gopher looking for his shadow. The Libs follow him blindly while failing to see that the rest of us are waking up to Obama. We are coming…and we will clean him out. In two years, Obama has solidified himself as the worst president…eclipsing even Jimmy Carter. And that’s saying something……

Real American, the term Socialist has been used to describe Obama even in his campaign days and follows through to the truth still. Don’t stand there with your head in the sand. In Novemeber, the first Liberal yard sale begins and then we cut the head off the snake in 2012. You had your chance and all the Democrats did was hit dirt and begin to dig. Meanwhile, California grossly miscalculated pollution levels in a scientific analysis used to toughen the state’s clean-air standards, and scientists have spent the past several months revising data and planning a significant weakening of the landmark regulation.

The pollution estimate in question was too high – by 340 percent, according to the California Air Resources Board, the state agency charged with researching and adopting air quality standards. The estimate was a key part in the creation of a regulation adopted by the Air Resources Board in 2007, a rule that forces businesses to cut diesel emissions by replacing or making costly upgrades to heavy-duty, diesel-fueled off-road vehicles used in construction and other industries.

Yep, let’s trust these scientist. I’m sure they have NO idealogical reason to manipulate the data. Liberal and scientist – two words that should never be combined.

It will be interesting to watch the conservatives suffering from smog and the other effects of a decreasing ozone while they vote . I imagine if Bob and his cohorts had their way, there would be no federal laws enacted to help and protect the citizens of this country. First we could start with the elimination of HHS and the FDA. Why fund these agencies when people do not want the help. I am sure there are many other agencies that watch out for the general public, we can get rid of.

At the root of every government tax or spending policy is the criminal Federal Reserve. All of this money comes from their very existence. If you want to reign in government you MUST END THE FED. Sound money inherently restricts the growth and power of government. Elections certainly aren’t going to do it. The constitution certainly isn’t (the Fed is of course unconstitutional, like so many other government agencies, programs, etc.).
