Atlanta Tea Party was well-organized and well-behaved

It may come as a shock to people around the country whose familiarity with the Tea Party movement is gleaned from national media reports, but yesterday’s rally at the State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia was well-organized, substantive, and well-behaved.

I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at this event, and I was impressed with the demeanor and attentiveness of the crowd — which included many young people in addition to adults from a very diverse background.  The speakers reflected that diversity of backgrounds as well, and included many from Georgia (of course), but also from Washington, DC, other states and even other countries.

Common to those standing and listening to the speakers, and to the speakers themselves, was not so much the “anger” often portrayed by the national media as the hallmark of the Tea Party movement, but more of a deep and sincere concern for the current and future state of the nation.  Government spending is today reaching historically — and dangerously — high levels of deficit; and the federal government’s role in the lives of the citizenry is expanding at an alarming rate.  Focusing on these phenomena is vitally important, and the grassroots-based Tea Party movement is an entirely appropriate mechanism for doing so – not as the arm of any political party, but independent of those structures.

Whether the movement will sustain the energy and focus clearly evident at the Atlanta rally yesterday (and apparently also reflected in others around the country) over the long haul — so as to have any real hope of accomplishing its goal of actually reducing government power, spending and taxation — remains to be seen.  But for the time being, the Tea Party movement is doing exactly what it should be doing — providing a forum for citizens sincerely concerned about the future of this great nation, in which they can share ideas and experiences in a civil and productive manner.

I didn’t degrade Sarah Palin, she let it be known that she had a ghost writer. It is not a secret, it is common knowledge her name is Lynn Vincent. No big deal, I mentioned it because you had your facts backward. Barack Obama authored his books, Lynn Vincent authored Sarah Palin’s book. As a student of Journalism you should be able to pen your own memoirs and send them to an editor…….If that is what you are trained to do, you should be able to do it. Now, if you cannot do what you were trained to do, does that equal competency?

I never said the Tea Party was anti-Black, never said anything of the kind nor inferred it.

If you don’t know what a Community Organizer does, nor can you provide reasons for why you scoff on it, then I doubt you have two advanced degrees…..and as I said, I don’t believe you, and I doubt any one else does either. If you can’t write your ideas without resorting to calling names, or making up defenses to arguments never posed to you, then you are not a critical thinker, which you have to be to EARN a Masters Degree, nevertheless, two! Those of us who have done it, know impostor when we read them! That’s why! You are So Busted as a liar and a fraud, and like I said an angry, spiteful, hateful being!

Wrong Jeff – i have never and never will say the Tea Party is RACIST – just majority white americans – nothing more – lets see 1000 show up – 10 are of a different race beside Caucasian – majority WHITE ! not racist – just majority white

“Barack Obama authored his books”

No he didn’t

“I never said the Tea Party was anti-Black, never said anything of the kind nor inferred it.”

Yet you call tea party people, tea baggers…………..

“If you don’t know what a Community Organizer does”

Obama never explained what he did…….. Just sayin…..

“hen I doubt you have two advanced degrees”

LOL!!!!! Yet you have no proof to back up your claim!

“and as I said, I don’t believe you, and I doubt any one else does either.”

Huh, I didn’t know I had to prove anything to a faceless blogger.

“If you can’t write your ideas without resorting to calling names”

You mean like when you called me a tea bagger?

“then you are not a critical thinker, which you have to be to EARN a Masters Degree, nevertheless, two! ‘

LOL!!!! Continue to degrade me ma’am. It only makes you look that much more hypocritical.

“Those of us who have done it, know impostor when we read them!”

HAHAAHAH!!!!!!! You must be best friends with Ms. Cleo!!!!!

“You are So Busted as a liar and a fraud, and like I said an angry, spiteful, hateful being!”

I am? Are you the AJC blog police?

Again, where is your proof, ma’am? You make these claims yet you have no evidence. Just empty rhetoric.

Library Jim – If the Media ignored Pastor Jeremiah Wright, and his other alleged radical associations then why do YOU know about them, better question, why do I? I don’t watch Fox News EVER, and yet I saw the allegations broadcast daily, hourly by the minute. And it’s funny that you choose to use Rev. Wright as the poster child for your argument. What do you know about Rev. Jeremiah Wright except for what you saw on the TV? Do you know what the subject of the sermons you saw the short clips was? No, you don’t. Do you know that Rev. Jeremiah Wright IS and was one of THE most respected Protestant Christian Theological minds in the US and in the world prior to his being attacked based on a couple of clips from a couple of sermons out of thousands of sermons he has given. And the clips did not show what the subject of the sermon was, or why he was giving that particular sermon on the day he did it. What was he commenting on that was happening at that time? When did he give that sermon? …..It is relative in terms of context. I have seen MANY preachers give controversial sermons from every color and background, based on the topic of the day, I have seen white evangelical pastors say God was punishing America and America was dammed for it’s actions many times, Hagee, Falwell, Robertson, Van Impe, Rod Parsley, etc….yet none were branded as Un-American but Jeremiah Wright, was……WHY? And how do you know except for it was covered ad nauseum by the “Media”.. none of which found it necessary to play an entire clip, and not just an inflammatory soundbite to make the case or controversy.

Lazy Journalism runs rampant these days, and it is a shame on all sides. However, on our topic, I believe that it is the “Real Liberal Media Outlets” Newsweek, The Nation, MSNBC that are talking about the disapproval of Liberals regarding some of Obama’s policies.

Tim, you are really silly! The Tea Party called themselves TeaBaggers in the beginning before it was pointed out, several times, that Tea Baggers is a sexual term. Actually Tea Bagging is, but it goes to reason that at Tea Bagger would be one who Tea Bags…… Remember in the early days of the movement, women hanging Tea Bags from their hats, and on their clothes, saying I’m a Tea Bagger? LOL, it was funny, and it was self imposed terminology. I saw a lady yesterday who must not have gotten the memo for she had a sign and the hat! Own It! Even so, I don’t recall ever calling anyone a Tea Bagger……

As for the Community Organizer, he did explain what he did…..MANY MANY times so if you don’t know then……., but why are you all so stuck on that aspect of his life? He was a Community Organizer as his job when he was 23 years old…..at that age, what was your job? And what was any President’s job at that age for that matter? Why do you all insist on believing that all he ever did in his life prior to becoming the President was be a Community Organizer. What is the proper path to Presidency as followed by all others prior to this man? You say Military Service, but many never served…..Obviously it’s not being a community organizer, although understanding how policy affects REAL AMERICANS, their lives, their communities, which is what a community organizer does, should be on the list of things to know. How bout Understanding how the Application of the Constitution shapes our lives and policies, should that be important? How about being a 5 time elected Official – three times in your state government and twice into the Federal Government? Really, what is the test of qualifications you pick your president by and what makes you respect them? Each President took a very different road to the White House.

If you are a critical thinker, you can answer these simple questions Tim…..No BS, just talk without all the hate…….If you can……

Tim you didn’t ask me any questions. You only attacked me based on things you think I may say, not things I said, and called names and said a whole bunch of NOTHING! I hope you don’t represent the views of most of the Tea Partiers, because if you do, they won’t last long…… It’s been tried many times in the history of this Nation, but your particular views NEVER win…..not for long. What this country needs it’s getting a good dose of reality which is exactly what it is getting. America is a unique melting pot of varying views and opinions all of which make it American. Americans can be whatever they wish to be, including socialists, communists, Marxists, Catholic, Jewish, Budhist or Athiest, and still be just as American as the next person. America is not better than the people or different than those who live in it, so if some of us are hurting, we as a nation all hurt…..No man is an island unto himself, and in fact, as we are finding, WE ARE OUR BROTHERS’ KEEPER. Like it or not.

And yes Tim, they all took different roads, Some were farmers, some were career politicians, one was an actor, one was a cocaine addicted alcoholic, One was a spy, several were philanderers and one was even reported to be a closeted homosexual. Some were in the military, some were philosophers and writers. Some were pro-slavery, some were abolitionists. All were men who heard a call to lead and stepped up to the plate to do a tremendous job with more responsibility on their shoulders than you could ever imagine, so all deserve to be respected, whether you agreed with them or not.

No, they railed on homosexuals, saying it was there fault for Katrina, and 9/11 so what’s the difference. Also, he didn’t take God’s name in vain…He said “God Damn America” and after that he said “That what would be the risk of us retaliating against Arabs for the attack without thinking it through.” Finish the sentence….that was my point exactly….”America’s chickens are coming home to roost”… The entire quote was from Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq under President Reagan, in a FOX News interview on 10/10/01, the entire segment was never shown on Fox or any other news outlet, but he did cite Ambassador Peck in his sermon……Just an FYI…..it was much easier to just drum up controversy and viewer ratings than to tell the truth and throw the Man of God under the bus.
