Swine flu cover up?

Throughout this year, the end of which is fast approaching, dire warnings about the magnitude and severity of the swine flu/H1N1 virus swept repeatedly across the United States and much of the world.  The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology last summer  raised the specter that the H1N1 flu strain could infect nearly one half the population of the entire United States.

In typical knee-jerk fashion, Congress rushed to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to combat the looming catastrophe — appropriating close to $8 billion to fight the H1N1 flu virus this season.  The federal government already has spent nearly $6.5 billion purchasing and distributing doses of swine flu/H1N1 vaccine.  Tens of millions of doses of the vaccine that was specially developed and rushed through production to meet the perceived threat, were shipped to facilities in all parts of the country — where many millions now sit unused and unwanted.  One news network reported recently that perhaps as many as 250 million doses of swine flu vaccine may wind up being thrown away by the end of the flu season early next year.

However, if one attempts to find out exactly what is happening to all that vaccine, one meets a brick wall.  How many doses have actually been administered?  What is the cost per dose?  How many doses are actually stockpiled by the federal government and by the states?  Repeated calls to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yielded no meaningful information in answer to queries such as these; Internet searches for specifics were similarly unproductive.  These questions are relevant for the taxpayers of this country who have been footing the bill for the government’s efforts to meet the threat that it defined, but which now appears not to have materialized.  Yet answers are as hard to come by as a Christmas creche on a town square.

The CDC, which earlier this year appeared eager to offer information and opinion highlighting the impending swine flu catastrophe, is now strangely silent when probed about what has happened to all that medicine it said was essential and which it claimed we absolutely had to buy.  An organization which prides itself on the ability to define, track and defend against all manner of diseases and other threats to Americans’ health, now is unable to answer basic questions about what has happened to billions of dollars worth of vaccines that it said were needed immediately if not sooner.

Could it be the Obama Administration doesn’t want the American public — the taxpayers who pay for Washington’s spendthrift ways — to know how much money has been wasted already in this effort, and how much will be wasted in the near future on unused and unwanted flu vaccine?

This is the same government that is pressuring Congress to rush through legislation that would give it effective control of virtually the entire American health care system.  Accurate information on the degree to which it miscalculated and overreacted to one season’s flu problem, wouldn’t help that agenda right now, would it?

Unused and unwanted? Where do you get your information? Please link because I don’t believe you. Based on my own experiences I can’t find the dang vaccine to give it to myself and my kid. Because of a limited supply and a high demand…according the clinics and other vaccine administrators I’ve called.

This column smells strongly of cray cray.

Nono, you can see I’ve got three posts on here…well, I’ve actually got another. My second post is actually the links to CDC’s H1N1 site, refuting how they’re so silent about this. And to the vaccine supply page. But…it’s awaiting moderation. Thank you for getting yours through.

First, just because the vaccine is in high demand by the sheeple doesn’t mean it is at all needed. That is part of the point Bob is also trying to make. Consider as well that a couple of years ago nations all over the world got suckered into buying millions of doses of Tamiflu against the non-existent bird flu. This drug is only marginally effective against the swine flu but is totally ineffective against the normal seasonal flu. These supplies (which these stupid governments paid billions for) expire this year and next. So then along comes H1N1 conveniently when they need to show that they were not complete idiots and giant wealth transfer vehicles for the profits of big Pharma. A little too convenient if you ask me.

The take home message from all of this is that government cannot be trusted at all. They are owned, lock stock and barrel by big business and use their power to enslave us all for the benefit of their friends.

But let’s look back a few years and see that republican governments (like the one Mr. Barr so happily supported) also gave us the big lie of WMD. The Swine Flu of its time. Just another wealth transfer scheme to take money from the hard working taxpayer and give it to the military/congressional/industrial complex.

Wake up folks, government is not your friend, and it doesn’t change just because you change the party in power.

BTW, just FYI…the “scare” with H1N1 is that it contains DNA from both the “bird” and “swine” and “people” flu viruses. In other words, it’s a mutant. Right now it’s not a very dangerous one. But, since it already has bird flu DNA the fear is that it will go back into the birds, pick up the dangerous parts of bird flu…the scary parts…and then voila! We now have a strain of H1N1 that is super dooper deadly AND easily transmitted from human to human.

And that’s why they so want us to get vaccinated, hoping to kill it before it goes back to the birds.

Why would anybody with a body temperature of about 98.6 degrees give either themselves or their children a vaccine that was tested on only 500 people?

Maybe you haven’t seen the CBS News investigative reporter who has not only been stonewalled by the federal government on data related to Swine Flu, but determined that of all tested who presumably had Swine Flu, the actual numbers were 1-3% of those tested…most had just an upper respiratory infection.

And “whatever”, your assertion that H1N1 is now dangerous and easily transmitted amongst humans is without any basis in fact. The labs had a hard time even getting that virus to grow in labs, which is why they could produce vaccines in sufficient quantity — assuming it was really ever needed.

At $600/test (which is a basic DNA test called “PCR”) doctors aren’t ordering tests and the federal government has stopped counting so as not to be so thoroughly embarrassed, AGAIN.

First, because this is an evolved strain of the flu, people who believe in Creation science and not in evolution shouldn’t take any vaccines. Since the virus doesn’t mutate, then the Creationists should not believe in the vaccine, either. Here is a chance to stand up for your beliefs, and to risk your young children as well.

2) To the evolutionists, this allows for the benefit of the human species and out gene pool by killing off the stupid.

3) those who can’t find out about where and when the vaccines are given, such as Bob Barr, who can’t find out anything about it on the Internet, should also note #2 above.

Bicycles – EVERYBODY knows that to get information about how many doses are administered you have to call the State Health Dept. The only people who really know how many are administerd are the doctors/hospitals. They, in turn, should report to their State Health Dept, who in turn may report to CDC.

CDC may be the world premier health institute but it doesn’t have AUTHORITY over State Health Dept. It can only recommend and advise.

We now have an administration and congress who only operate in crisis mode. Operating in this mode allows them a lot of wiggle room, especially with budjets. It allows them to attack without a plan, and without all the facts, which is the mode in which they feel most comfortable. This is why Obama is in Copenhagen which is billed as the last chance to save the planet. If we wait six months….life as we know it will cease.

Other than the bank bailouts, which were necessary, almost every other crisis would have been business as usual under most other administrations. However, under the cloak of “crisis” they have been able to spend hundreds of billions on pet projects which have very little impact on the so called crisis at hand.

Theory: H1N1 was created by the US Federal Government and was released just south of us to combat the very nasty problem that all the drug cartels are presenting us with. Then, when it was quickly brought over the border by immigrants and drug runners, our government pressed the panic button. And everything since then has happened how it happened. Whaddaya think?

WHATEVER – do you read the news, do you read the truth. The swine flu is man-made, and one of the biggest farces yet to hit the United States. Who wins on this one – of course, as always, Big Pharm. Maybe the government should look more into big pharm and the corruption they spread, along with the FDA. It’s sad, but the American people are so being taken advantage of.

Wow. More crazy talk from Bob Barr. Totally shocking.

Here’s the thing about viruses: WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

Luckilly, the swine flu was not as devastating as some had feared. But to have done nothing and risk a massive pandemic with huge loss of life would have been clinically insane.

And Republicans used to whine about everything that was blamed on George Bush. Right….H1N1 is Obama’s fault and it’s a conspiracy. What a nut…

john

I was not the least bit worried about this flu because I take good care of myself and I never worry about vaccines and whatnot. I am also very fiscally conservative and do not like the idea of government taxing an extremely healthy person such as myself to cover the medical expenses of people who do not have concern for their health.

But to be bitching about 6-8 billion dollars for disease prevention based on the precautionary principle (which is a conservative principle stating that the cost of mitigation is often far less than the costs associated with being unprepared) is asinine and detracts from more serious tragedies of fiscal imprudence such as bailing out corporations and screwing around in the desert.

While I much appreciate Mr. Barr’s fiscal prudence and limited government intervention, Mr. Barr would be wise to choose his battles more carefully. Issues of human-health and environmental protection are inherently conservationist and are vastly more important than most other federal spending yet they pale in comparison to other federal spending regarding the amount spent.

If it was a smallpox outbreak, Barr would be telling us not to waste taxpayer money on the vaccine but just to spend more time hanging out around cows and milk maids instead.

Obviously, the government didn’t need to react to the pandemic. Private enterprise stepped in and produced all that vaccine with no taxpayer investment at all. Oh wait. Private enterprise didn’t produce any vaccine until the government identified the virus, developed the vaccine and paid private enterprise to produce it. It appears that the virus is not only alive and well but it has infected and killed the philosophies of Ayn Rand, Friedrich A. Hayek, Milton Friedman, the Austrian School, the Chicago School and Alan Greenspan.

10,000 people in the US have died of swine flu so far this year. I think I’ll be getting the vaccine next week when it is available at work. I hear it can even make me artistic. I would love to be able to paint.
