Doggie Devil - are the Christians the ones supporting or opposing the killing of innocents all over the middle east in the name of "regime change", "bringing democracy", or "supporting Israel?"

Antiwar.com has a great piece about the self-proclaimed Christian soldier who founded Blackwater, and his personal vendetta to wipe Islam off the map, one innocent at a time. Sounds exactly like what Jesus would do.

Once again, we come back to the War on Drugs. Either you are your brother's keeper or you are not. Consenting adults engaging in consensual activities should not be subject to any law whatsoever. It is these no-knock provisions, need to preserve "evidence," and the like that embolden cops to feel like their access to private property is more important than the 4th amendment. End the war on drugs, prostitution, gambling, and every other non-violent victimless crime, and much power will be removed from the cops.

Good job Bob for stating the obvious (to those of us who still love liberty) that this problem is not about black and white but about us versus them - them being the government and their law enforcement stooges.

Just today in the AJC you can read the headlines of "Cop accused of molestation", "cop accused of identity theft" and routinely you read of cops killing innocent unarmed victims with both guns and tasers. Rape of suspects, beatings of suspects, questionable jailhouse deaths, and the like are WAY too commonplace.

You are right in noting 9-11 as a turning point, but the police state in this country has been growing for much longer than that. Somewhere police went from being "peace officers" to "law enforcement officials." That summary leap and the midset that went with it are at the root of the problem. When b.s. charges like "disturbing the peace" and "interfering with an officer" can be leveled at anyone even asking a question of an officer, then we live in a police state.

Personally I blame the War on Drugs which ultimately is just a War on american citizens and their liberty. To fight the war our government MUST violate privacy, lie, cheat, bribe, etc. Since their are no victims in the crime of use or sale, there is no other legal way to secure evidence. The theft of property under "civil asset forfeiture laws" only futher emboldens these criminals. Now new cruisers, boats, cars, and the like are just a traffic stop away. Under law, a charge doesn't even need to be filed. Nice work if you can get it.

These clowns work for us, not the other way around, and it is high time this nation begin the discussion of whether or not it is time to eliminate government run law enforcement in favor of private, competing security agencies. And also an end to the War on Drugs.

DebbieDoRight at August 3rd, 2009 3:23 pm said "OMG - please tell me you don’t live ANYWHERE near me!!!"

Believe me, the sentiment is far more than mutual.

The Sex Offender Registries are virtually useless but there is one way in which they are certainly useful and that is that they are pretty good at helping identify d-bags who are no-accounts and not worth knowing. I'm not speaking of the people who are listed on the Registries, I am speaking of the brain-less, fact-less, do-gooders who are drawn to the Registries. Those "people" also tend to be moronic hypocrites as well. I do appreciate that the Registries help identify those scumbags.

Here's the communication/interaction model I suggest for those scumbags - you stay away from me and my business and I will do the same for you. You bother me and my family and get into my business and I will do the same for you. You pass retroactive laws to harass me and my family and I will harass you and your family. Believe me, it is absolutely quid pro quo and then some. EVERY single day. These illegal laws will not exist without a response. So while the laws literally do nothing useful day-in and day-out, the response actually has an impact.

I am impressed with the integrity shown by Mr. Barr in evenhandedly evaluating the Gates arrest: particularly in the wording: "What occurred on Gates' porch was but the latest example of government controlling a citizen (regardless of race) based on the flimsiest of evidence, and of the power to arrest anyone, anytime who does not meekly submit [and I add, regardless of elitist/Harvard snobbery] to such control. A lot of us feel entitled to criticize the elite, dislike those who are more intelligent than we, and believe ourselves justified in disparaging those with whom we disagree. Gates makes the perfect foil, since he is admittedly arrogant, intelligent and perhaps belligerent- none of which reverses Mr. Barr's point about government power eroding private rights.

Why would an educated Harvard professor come out screaming "Yo Mama"? He talks about my Mama, he probably totes a whuppin. He is a liar if he said he didn't talk about his Mama. Who is the racist, immature bigot here? Yes black can be bigots also, it is not a one way street.

The door was closed when Crowley got there. The police report does not give kicked in door as a reason for going in.
It is not a crime to talk trash or be uppity.
I didn't vote for Obama and I'm not a fan of Gates.I'm glad he drank American owned beer.
I was going to vote for Obama with extreme reservations until he picked Biden and I heard he would pick H. Clinton.
Obama should have said no comment. Someone should make him watch Helter Skelter movie for Nixon comment in the Manson family trial.
A lot of people on here just make up laws.that don't really exist.
Gates said he didn't talk about Crowley mother. Crowley may be a liar. In any case it is not against the law.
And Gates seems like a smart guy to me.He held his own on the Colbert Report. And I've surfed thru and past his tv shows.

I empathise with those who mourn the loss of liberty, but I ask if we can expect anything less when we import 2 or 3 million third world, Marxist Bent aliens legal and otherwise who largely don't have a Christian World View, much less a Calvinist Christian world view that founded and underpinned this nation. The moral calibre of the predominance of the colonists was such that it was a governmental crime to encumber them with unreasonable demands for explanations and identities as it was unlikely they would be up to skullduggery at any given moment. As it is, now, government, I'm afraid would be remiss if it did not thoroughly investigate a kicked-in door and a fast talking, even uppity product of affirmative action. Quoting J Adams, or attempting to: "If Americans don't exhibit Christian morality in far greater degree than presently is apparent, I fear the Republic will fail." or words ot that effect.

The Old woman who thinks she sees a crime doesn't call police. She asks Whalen
to call - Whalen tells dispatcher they have luggage and maybe live there.
The Fox Judge explains this does not add up to give Crowley the right to go in the house.
Maybe it works for Crowley if the old woman calls and if Gates looks like he is stealing stuff. The Front door is closed. Can't use the door is busted reason. He sees Gates inside glass on phone.
I have a white friend the same age as Gates that has been disabled since he was a kid. He gets really upset when stressed. Gates has just gotten off an 18 hour flight has a chest
infection and finds his key won't work the door.
I don't think it is about race. Maybe it's easier than saying life has been one big pain and he
gets upset.
I do find find it ironic that Gates discovered he has irish blood and Crowley has complained about the news media on his lawn.
It's not first time two irish guys had a fight.I'm also glad Gates ended up drinking Sam Adams. The only guy drinking an american beer.

Mr. Barr,

I wonder if it occurs to you that when President Obama said "The Cambridge Police acted kind of stupidly" in arresting professor Gates in his own house for disorderly conduct after his residence therein evidently already been accepted by the officer, he evidenced his agreement with your sentiments in your "Gates' arrest reveals loss of rights" column today. I wonder if you remain such a Republican leaning libertarian that you must begrudge him credit and rub in the "gaffe" criticism to which I suspect you would object if, say, Newt Gingrich had uttered it, as I can imagine him doing, at least off the record.
