Yes, it’s that time again. Let’s talk about pizza.
It’s been almost two-and-a-half years since we last asked about pizza in Atlanta, so we definitely need to update this one.
It’s said that even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. But why eat bad pizza when there’s so much good stuff out there? First, we need to know where to find that amazing pizza. That’s where you come in. Whether it’s thin and crispy or thick and chewy, we want to hear about your favorite place for a slice (or a whole pie).
Tell us your pick for the best place to get pizza in and around Atlanta, and what makes it so special.

And here I go, 2 1/2 years later still saying that Antico makes the best pie in the GMA area. The ingredients are fantastic and the chew on the slightly charred crust is perfect. It isn’t complicated because it doesn’t have to be. The choices are limited….one size, no slices, strict enforcement of topping options. No subs or pastas. Just Pizza!

Antico wins for the freshness and experience. But if you are looking for a simple slice and a beer or a place with options, Moe’s Pizza off Briarcliff and Clairmont is perfect! Felini’s is another great option especially in good weather when you can sit on the porch and watch traffic.

Excessive Punctuation = Overeater
February 18th, 2013
1:54 pm
Ever wonder why some people get so excited when writing about food that they use multiple exclamation points????
Like when I write “It’s Johny’s Pizzur Shack. There bread stix is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Excessive punctuation is actually a cry for help. It is simply the writer’s way of communicating that they haven’t even a modicum of self-control, and they are so food-obsessed that they cannot even communicate about food without getting carried away with hyperbolic phrases and absurdly redundant punctuation.
If you or someone you love suffers from this disorder, please remind them that McDonald’s french fries are the best!!!!!!!!!! They’re sooo salty!!!!!!! And I love fountain drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Savage Pizza uses canned soup as a topping. If you write “Savage Pizza” your ISDN will be logged and you will be banned from commenting on food again.
Savage Pizza was fine 15 years when there were no other good pizza options in L5P, but there is no reason to eat there now. Unless you just prefer sticky table tops. You can lterally walk (unless you’re too fat) over to Camelli’s or just go to Starbuck’s next door and get a tall regular coffee and smoke a cigarette and wait for that hunger feeling to pass.

“The choices are limited….one size, no slices, strict enforcement of topping options.” Sounds like Antico is one of those places that has good pie but needlessly fussy/rude atmosphere. No thanks. I’ll never understand the appeal of places that go out of their way to be rude or sloppy in their service. Having said that, Fellini’s Howell Mill is awesome in both pie and service. Mellow Mushroom deserves a mention as well.

I don’t know what y’all are talking about.
If I want an authentic NY slice… I don’t mean Neopolitan, or nuevo-whatever, I’m talking about a big freaking NY slice with meatball that you have to fold… if I want that, then I’m driving back to Athens and getting me some Little Italy’s.
And that’s the truth. If you want actual authentic NY style pizza in this state, it’s Little Italy’s or nothing.
The location is Gainesville is pretty good, but the one in Winder should be avoided.

I have two picks. Blue Moon Pizza in Marietta and Sandy Springs. They have the best crust that I have tasted. When I eat a pizza from here, I eat the crust and all there is literally nothing left. The other indgredients are excellent too. Plus the staff here is very friendly and the owners are also. My second choice is OZ pizza in Fairburn. The pizzas from these two places are very similar. The crust is very good. Not as good as Blue Moon but still good. The ingredients are fresh and I love their sauce. They have an excellent lunch special and they are always tops on my lunch rotation.

Antico Pizza, period.
This pizza is in the traditional Neapolitan style – where pizza was invented – and is all kinds of delicious.
Also very good and a close second is Fritti. Nothing else I have tried in Atlanta matches up to these two.

Mama’s Pizza on Old Milton Pkwy in Alpharetta. Family owned and still use quality ingredients. And Jimmy always remembers I like a little extra PIZZA sauce (yeah, the cold sauce for the pizzas, not the warm marinara for the pasta) on the side to spread on top of my slices or pie.

Dagwoods is the best up in the Norcross / North Fulton Area. Hands down … but it has to be the Big Daddy 24″. 16″ are great, but something different happens with the giant pie. The sauce and cheese do magic things together. Throw some pepperoni and sausage on this monster, and it is a true competitor. Pizza “grease” at its finest. All veggies welcome to soak up the flavor. New York would be proud of these artists.

It’s all in what we are talkign about:
– Best Chain – Johnny’s. Point blank, i have never had a bad pizza there and some of them (the one at Wade Green Road at Hwy 75) are just flat out phenominal. They may not be as authentic or tasty as some of the single restaurants mentioned here, but I know when I go that I will not come out annoyed that I threw away money.
– Best ‘basic’ pizza – Mama’s in Alpharetta. I like basic New York style pizza with a crisp but not hard crust and gobs of gooey cheese. Mama’s is as good as I have ever had for this.
I have eaten at a few others mentioend here and I liked them all except one.
MOST OVERATED – Fellini’s. Sorry. got talked in to going there by friends who said they had the best pizza in town. Sure, if you like Pizza that tastes like the sauce was made by Chef-Boy-R-Dee. That particular restaurant was nothing more than location, though it was 10 years ago. Put them in a less “my peers tell me its cool just to be seen there” spot and they go out of business. The only people this pizza calls out to are the ones that sit out from of Barnes and Noble for hours trying to impress people.
I am going to have to hit Taste of Italy in Canton this weekend. It sounds like some folks really like it and it’s one of the few places on this list I haven’t tried.
