Best burger

IMG_2659KirbyG’s Diner and Pub (formerly Chevy’s Diner) in McDonough was the readers’ pick for best burger in and around Atlanta. It might be a surprise winner for those unfamiliar with it, but this restaurant’s fans are passionate about the Henry County spot.

YOUR PICKS
1. KirbyG’s Diner and Pub
You say, “KirbyG’s (used to be Chevy’s) in McDonough. Big and juicy burgers on a toasted and buttered bun – Delicious! Vortex used to be my favorite, so Vortex-lovers don’t knock KirbyG’s (because of all the nominations it’s getting) until you’ve tried it. It’s worth the trip” and “By the way no shilling here. Just a lot of locals that LOVE to eat at KirbyG’s…..Do not say bad things unless you have tried it!!! Love the Ole Blue Eyes. I do not have to drive into downtown traffic to get an awesome burger.”

2. US Cafe
3. Vortex
4. Holeman & Finch
5. Farm Burger
6. Bocado

OUR PICKS
1. Bocado
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Chef Todd Ginsberg’s burger at Bocado, a double stack of house-ground farm-raised beef, American cheese and house-made pickles served on an H&F bun, stands out amongst the many contenders for Atlanta’s best burger. Ginsberg’s simple preparation and attention to quality ingredients makes this the strongest offering of its kind in town.”

2. Holeman & Finch
3. Muss & Turners
4. Farm Burger
5. Grindhouse

Best kept secret burger and possibly best burger is at Little’s food store on Carroll Street in Cabbagetown. They grind their own beef in house. Best one Ive had in Atlanta

I agree w/ Catherine on Brake Pad in College Park. They make a mean burger. However, I can’t say that it’s the best considering that I’ve never been to Grindhouse (or Farmburger). But I will get thy butt there immediately…

I have never had a H & F burger but I’ve heard they’re amazing. And Carey’s (I only had been to the Buckhead location) burgers were very good too.

The top of my list is Bocado.

Other great ones:

George’s (I’d go here over Vortex any day of the week)
Pure Taqueria (if the kitchen does it right it’s fantastic, if not…not so great)
Murphy’s
Brick Store Pub

And if you’ve had enough to drink and can somehow stand all of the 2nd hand smoke, the Bison Burger at North Highland Pub is a great late night burger.

Cheeseburger Bobby’s in Canton on Hwy 20. Great Burger, Quarter pound or 1/2 pound – dress it like you want from a topping bar. Fresh Cut Fries – and as a perfect ending Frozen Custard, so creamy and wonderful. This company is also very involved in community, so on any given night they are probably going to be having specials and part of their proceeds to go a local school or charity, which is great too. Very Friendly Staff.

Another good spot is new in Woodstock – The Burger Bar – you can get anything from 1/4 pound to a whooping 2 lb., you have an order sheet that has about 50 toppings you can choose, including goat cheese, eggs and even peanut butter if you desire. They also have chicken, turkey burgers and other sandwiches and salads.

The Varsity? —

Yuck!! It may be an Atlanta icon diners, but the food sucks. :( Too many customers and too little time to properly prepare ALL of their food choices. Even McDonalds makes better burgers! :)

Kirby G’s, used to be Chevy’s Diner before they changed the name, but their burgers just melt in your mouth. If you’re wanting an old 50’s &60’s diner atmosphere this place is great! Downtown McDonough, about 30 minutes away from Atlanta. Well worth the drive and the money!
