Best burger

IMG_2659KirbyG’s Diner and Pub (formerly Chevy’s Diner) in McDonough was the readers’ pick for best burger in and around Atlanta. It might be a surprise winner for those unfamiliar with it, but this restaurant’s fans are passionate about the Henry County spot.

YOUR PICKS
1. KirbyG’s Diner and Pub
You say, “KirbyG’s (used to be Chevy’s) in McDonough. Big and juicy burgers on a toasted and buttered bun – Delicious! Vortex used to be my favorite, so Vortex-lovers don’t knock KirbyG’s (because of all the nominations it’s getting) until you’ve tried it. It’s worth the trip” and “By the way no shilling here. Just a lot of locals that LOVE to eat at KirbyG’s…..Do not say bad things unless you have tried it!!! Love the Ole Blue Eyes. I do not have to drive into downtown traffic to get an awesome burger.”

3. Vortex
4. Holeman & Finch
5. Farm Burger
6. Bocado

OUR PICKS
1. Bocado
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “Chef Todd Ginsberg’s burger at Bocado, a double stack of house-ground farm-raised beef, American cheese and house-made pickles served on an H&F bun, stands out amongst the many contenders for Atlanta’s best burger. Ginsberg’s simple preparation and attention to quality ingredients makes this the strongest offering of its kind in town.”

3. Muss & Turners
4. Farm Burger
5. Grindhouse

The Varsity and Vortex are great, but my favorite in Atlanta is the Steak burger at Highland Tap in Virginia Highlands. Oh that burger is good! Those make up my top 3.

Well, I simply hate fast food burgers, but on the flip side I refuse to eat a burger at a place that makes customers jump through hoops to get one – after all it’s a burger.

I guess if I had to pick a best it would be the Vortex.

ANNE’S SNACK BAR.

Get the name right, people. Then go get a famous Ghetto Burger. It was voted “Best Burger” in America by The Wall Street Journal.

If you live in ATL, you have to experience Anne’s Snack Bar.

Holeman & Finch (I hear Bocado’s burger, which emulates H&F’s burger and uses H&F bread is every bit as good)
Farm Burger (local, grass fed beef tough to beat)

Honorable Mention: The EARL, Grindhouse

Most Overrated Burger: Vortex (tourist trap)

H&F, hands down, no question, no contest. As someone else mentioned, anyone who is voting for any other burger has never been to Holeman & Finch…

Holeman & Finch. Bocado is a close second, but H&F gets the nod. Their pickles are better.

After going to a number of “fancy” hamburger places in ATL, I think my favorite is Grindhouse. With Wendy’s having the best for fast food chains.

If anyone remembers Carey’s, their burgers were untouchable. The spot on U.S. 41 was a bit questionable with regard to their racial ethics, but there was a second location off of Collier Road that was very respectable. Haven’t had a better burger since they closed over 15 years ago.

I would love to say I cook the best burger, but the Vortex beats my burger, EVERY TIME! Dammit! From the bun to the patty it is great. However I would love to try the H&F burger.

BTW, if you can’t order a burger to temperature, the purveyor shouldn’t even be mentioned on this blog.

I’ve eaten the best burgers all over town, including waiting three hours outside in the cold for a Ghetto Burger at Ann’s Snack Bar. I’m glad I did it for the experience but the burger wasn’t worth it. I love burgers and in my opinion, all of the joints below do a wonderful job, some very different than others but that’s the point.
