OUR PICKS
1. JCT Kitchen
The AJC dining team’s specialist in Southern and Neighborhood Fare Jenny Turknett says, “While truffle oil may be passé now, my favorite fries are the truffle- parmesan fries at JCT Kitchen. Great crispy fries with a soft interior dressed with true white truffle oil and parmesan shavings, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Pig-n-Chik barbecue has the best french fries I have found in Atlanta. Large, crinkle-cut potatoes, perfectly fried. I’m not sure what type of oil they use, but the french fries taste like the lard-cooked french fries I remember from the 50’s and 60’s. Absolutely love ‘em.

I haven’t been to Bantam & Biddy yet, but given the great fries Doty made at Shaun’s and the great fries Lance Gummere made at the Shed at Glenwood, I’d be willing to bet they are pretty damned fine. Todd Richards is making terrific fries at the Shed since taking Lance’s place. I love the fries at Leon’s Full Service too.

Cheeseburger Bobby’s. Hot, crisp, not so much oil retained so you don’t feel like you are getting an oil change (like at Varsity or Five Guys). Near perfect fries. The variety of fry salts (jalapeno, vinegar, cajun, etc) are a great an unique addition – sort of like the variety of popcorn salts at the movies.
