OUR PICKS
1. Café Restaurant Dominicano (Norcross)
Chief Dining Critic John Kessler says, “Cristino Hiraldo and Zoilo Rodriguez opened this modest, dimly lit spot as a gathering place for the Dominican community. Guests come at lunch for $6 plate lunches from a steam table. Look for a half-dozen proteins ranging from stewed pork riblets in red chile to roasted chicken and oxtails in gravy, and pair one with a rice and salad. At night the full menu features a number of options, including a whole snapper fried to a golden crisp, mondongo (tripe soup) and great goat stew.”

2. Stir It Up (Little Five Points)
3. Calypso Café (downtown Atlanta)

I have no idea what the name of the place is. It’s a hole in the wall joint in the West End across from the mall. They have the best brown stew goat, beef patties, and cocoa bread! Anybody know the name of that place?

GaPeachy,

I think you are thinking of Taste of the Caribbean. It’s been recommended to me a few times; though, I have yet to try it.

Probably not well known, but Sangrias in Tucker does Puerto Rican Night on Tuesday and the specials are pretty good.

I hit up Carribbean Fiesta on Old Milton frequently and it’s sometimes really good. They have a tendency to be heavy handed with the salt and eating meat off the bone with a plastic fork and knife isn’t always fun

Don’t know whether to classify it as Cuban, Latin or Caribbean, but, if the quality approaches that of it’s Miami restaurants, Pollo Tropical on Cobb Pkw and Lawrenceville Hwy should be a hit!!!!

Bahama Breeze is as close to caribbean food as I care to get. Just wish the one near my home/work wasnt’ a “test kitchen” – keep taking off the stuff I love and replacing it with stuff I don’t! How I miss my angel hair pasta with fresh tomatoes and basil, tiger shrimp salad, and marghereta pizza/Breeze salad combo!

I love their jerk chicken w/ white rice w/ oxtail gravy and cabbage. YUMMY! Their plantains are just like eating dessert. Plus, it is hard to find a place that sells Ting around here.

I can’t believe that some people are saying that place across the street from the West End mall is good. It was all types of horrible. We got the brown stew chicken and the jerk chicken. The brown stew chicken lacked flavor and the jerk sauce was clearly poured from an industrial sized SYSCO bottle directly onto the chicken. It was HORRIBLE.

Calypso in downtown Atlanta is a go to favorite and Scotch Bonnet on Campbellton is another.

I live in the perimeter but can honest is saying most of the best spots are on Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain area.

Tropical Cuisine on Old National Hwy is THE BEST so far. A Taste of Negril on Auburn Ave was nice until they started reheating the food in the microwave & saying it was right out of the pan…Now I see why they are closed….
