Best brisket

Fox Bros. brisket is your pick for the best in and around Atlanta. Here, it’s pictured with Texas toast and sides of mac and cheese and green beans. Photo: Becky Stein / Special

YOUR PICKS
1. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
You say, “For brisket, you have to trust the Texas boys at Fox Bros. They smoke WHOLE briskets with the flat AND the POINT, giving it the higher fat content that is the benchmark of true Texas brisket. If you don’t like brisket with the point, then hang out at the assortment of OTP places mentioned that only smoke the flat. Admittedly, places like Dave Poe’s do better with pulled pork, but Fox Bros dominates in the ‘cue of their home state.”

OUR PICKS
1. Grand Champion BBQ
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “When ordering the brisket at Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell, take the opportunity to order either the lean or fattier moist cut, depending on your preference. Whichever you prefer, the brisket at this relative newcomer to the Atlanta barbecue scene arrives packed with flavor from their dry rub and a heavy dose of smoke.”

I’ve done Fox Bros, BBQ 1 in Marietta and Community BBQ on Clairemont (virtually the same as BBQ1), but for my money none are better than Pig & Chick (I do the one on Briarcliff). Now if you’re telling me that Old South in Smyrna is now doing brisket (it’s been a while since I’ve been out that way) I’ll have to give it a try since OS remains my favorite BBQ joint.

Firehouse subs? Are you kidding me? It was so bad I sent them an email to complain. It was chopped beef and it was so small I could not see the meat without opening up the bun. Really bad.

Cafe Sababa in Dunwoody has the best and most unusual Moroccan-style brisket recipe.

Community BBQ & Fox Bros are the best you’ll find outside the great state of Texas.

Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell serves the best brisket in the South! I have tried Texas brisket and it did not hold a candle to the perfect creation that GCBBQ produces. Their brisket is presented with the perfect bark and it is buttery smooth and tender. It would be a sin to sauce this properly smoked meat with its unique rub created just for this beef. It is also delicious in their brunswick stew and in their unique Chipoltle baked beans. Grand Champion puts its own magical twist into each creation! I have found none better !

I love Pig n Chik best for pulled pork; but I when I want Beef, it means a drive from Dunwoody to Little Five Points to get beef brisket from Fox Brothers.

Zeigler’s BBQ & Catering is one of my favorites in north Cobb. Besides the best brisket I’ve had in Atlanta, their pulled pork, Brunswick stew are great too. Cover them with Zeigler’s own Apple Bourbon bbq sauce and you’re doing about as good as you could hope for…..3451 Cobb Parkway • Acworth, GA

Sorry folks… best place to get BBQ Brisket has to be TEXAS! Too many BBQ joints to pick just one. BTW, If you ask for BBQ in Texas, you’ll get beef – not pork.

I prefer to leave the brisket on the cow where it was intended to stay. Plenty of wonderful alternatives from the plant kingdom to satisfy one’s hunger and nutritional requirements. Go Veg.

Hole in the wall but it’s called Heirloom Market BBQ near the Hooch, Ray’s on the River area. Best brisket I’ve tasted outside of Texas.

Hands down it’s Sam’s BBQ1 on Lower Roswell Road. Will flat out make a tadpole slap a whale! Never tried this Heirloom place that so many are mentioning but may just have to give it a nibble.

Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell. They come from a great pedigree having worked with all the other top BBQ players in the area. They’ve tweeked their recipes giving respect to where they came from and now have made them their own. THE best dry rub on any brisket!!

The brisket at Heirloom BBQ near the Galleria is amazing! Great sauces! I can’t wait to go back. The brisket was perfect. Nice smoke ring, strong smoke flavor, yet not overpowering. The meat was perfectly cooked, easy to eat with a fork, but not over cooked. The rub used on the brisket wasn’t overpowering, you knew that it was there but it didn’t get in the way of savoring the meat. God I love this place!

Simple answer – don’ t eat meat.

One Danish study stated that “[m]en peddling on a stationary bicycle until muscle failure lasted an average of 114 minutes on a mixed meat and vegetable diet, 57 minutes on a high-meat diet, and a whopping 167 minutes on a strict vegetarian diet.” Many of the world’s top athletes are meat-free, including Sports Illustrated “Olympian of the Century” Carl Lewis, top ultra-marathon runner Scott Jurek, tennis legend Chris Evert, football star Ricky Williams, baseball slugger Prince Fielder, boxing champion Keith Holmes, and NBA standouts Raja Bell and Salim Stoudamire.

Oh, and one more thing:
Eating a meat-laden diet greatly increases the amount of synthetic hormones that your body takes in. These hormones may contribute to a reduced sperm count and an increased risk of testicular tumors.

Franklin Barbecue in Austin, TX serves up the best brisket known to man.

In the ATL, the best I have had is at Sam’s BBQ in Marietta – very lean, tender and tasty. Visible ’smoke ring’. It almost was like roast beef to me. KC sauce there is outstanding.

The brisket at Grand Champion BBQ is without a doubt the best I have ever had. I have always been a barbecue fan of Fox Bros. and BBQ1 but when I recently tried the brisked at Grand Champion BBQ I couldn’t go back to the other places. It is beyond tasty and smoked to perfection. Grand Champion BBQ is the best.
