Best brisket

YOUR PICKS

You say, “For brisket, you have to trust the Texas boys at Fox Bros. They smoke WHOLE briskets with the flat AND the POINT, giving it the higher fat content that is the benchmark of true Texas brisket. If you don’t like brisket with the point, then hang out at the assortment of OTP places mentioned that only smoke the flat. Admittedly, places like Dave Poe’s do better with pulled pork, but Fox Bros dominates in the ‘cue of their home state.”

The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “When ordering the brisket at Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell, take the opportunity to order either the lean or fattier moist cut, depending on your preference. Whichever you prefer, the brisket at this relative newcomer to the Atlanta barbecue scene arrives packed with flavor from their dry rub and a heavy dose of smoke.”

Fox Brothers BBQ has the best brisket in town. Sliced or chopped, it’s incredibly good.

As far as I am concerned, Firehouse Sub’s Smokehouse Beef & Cheddar Brisket is the best I have ever tasted from anywhere!

Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell/East Cobb. NO DAMN DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!! Seriously, their brisket rivals their award-winning ribs. They use extremely high-quality beef and smoke it to perfection. Just as important is the fact that Gregory and Robert usually slice the meat themselves, and they can tailor the cut to the diner’s preference.

Ok so its not a bbq joint but I had the best, most tender brisket I ever had in my life at at the Whole Foods on Ponce. Great smokey flavor and very moist.

Love Heirloom, but I’ve got to agree with Nathan on this one. GC BBQ in Roswell is the best brisket in the city. It’s extremely tender and perfectly moist, not dried out at all.

I know the comments are about to fill up with employees of Fox Brothers and Fat Matt’s so I’m glad I was able to vote before everybody gets drowned out by pseudo-pollsters

Why thank you, Stephanie. I’m gathering up the tour buses full of people to come get some of your brisket since you’re so graciously offering it up as the best.

The best brisket in town (this is Atlanta, right?) that I’ve had is a toss up between Fox Bros. and One Star Ranch in Buckhead.

I find it funny Edward always gets so mad when someone says their house. Anyway, there is no great brisket in Atlanta, only serviceable.

Brian, thanks for the vote of confidence. I should probably elaborate a little more on why I think GC has the better brisket. Fox Bros BBQ does truly wonderful things with beef, but I often find their cuts to be indiscriminate. It’s one thing to get a lot of fat if you really want it (I do like a little of the point in mine), but it’s another to be served up something that is very inconsistent in quality.

That’s the problem with Fox Bros, IMO. When they are on, they are ON. But unfortunately, that’s not always the case, especially when it comes to the brisket. I think it’s pretty amazing within the context of the Fox Bros Burger, which is amazing. But when served by itself, then I can help but occassionally find fault with the brisket.

Jim & Nick’s in Dallas, GA – all their BBQ is good. But their brisket makes me VERY happy….Being from Texas I am a bit of a Brisket snob. So i consider theirs as close to home as i am gonna get, in a good way!!!

Grand Champion BBQ in Roswell/Marietta for brisket! I agree with Nathan. It’s the leanest, best quality, most consistent HANDS DOWN. And smoky, of course. For the plate, they slice it expertly, giving you some of the best of all of it. No need to chop it into mincemeat if it’s this good a quality – their sandwiches are SLICED and naked. Good quality meat is what Atlanta needs, and it’s got it at GC BBQ. Hint, hint, Fox Bros., you guys are good, but 30-40% of your sandwich is inedible gobs of fat.

I second the vote for Bub Ba Q, I have visited their store in Woodstock and the brisket is the most moist I have ever tasted. A good test is when I buy a lb of meat and 2-3 days later it is still tender and moist. This place goes to a lot of BBQ contests and seems to win for ribs and brisket often.

I wonder if anyone knows the origin of hands down, it stems from a jockey that won the race not needing to use the whip, hence hands down. Thats todays lesson. Cheers!

Once you try it you too will say “without a doubt” the beef brisket at Heirloom Market BBQ. I ask for it “with a little fat.” No need for sauce. It is the only place outside of Texas where I have found beef brisket that is well smoked and tender – not an easy feat. All their other stuff is very good, but I always ask for the beef brisket, sliced, with a little fat because I know I can’t get it anywhere else in Atlanta. I too love Fox Bros. menu. But when it comes to brisket, I rush to Heirloom.

Sorry Greg but Sams BBQ-1 has gone way down hill. Their briskett use to win awards from all over the South. Now it’s just average at best. I think maybe opening the restraunt has really hurt their quality. Heirloom is AMAZING!
