OUR PICKS
1. Park Tavern
The AJC dining team’s Popular Eats specialist Jon Watson says, “There are few patios in Atlanta that offer the kind of view afforded by Park Tavern overlooking Piedmont Park. On a sunny spring afternoon, the Park Tavern is a great spot to enjoy the outdoors and offers some great people watching as Atlantans flock to the park to soak up the nice weather.”

In a temperate city like Atlanta, I am surprised that there aren’t more, more, MORE places to eat outside that have amazing spaces!

Oh, Anise is always a great space to eat outside

The Tavern at Phipps? Are you guys kidding me? That thing is sitting right in a parking lot. Not exactly my idea of the best outdoor dining experience.

Paper Mill Grill in East Cobb (second nod to Cafe Fortunato which shares the same deck) overlooking a small lake. Far better than a parking lot view!

The Tavern at Phipps!! Definitely the best in the city!

If they don’t allow dogs to sit quietly on the patio then its not a good outdoor dining location as far as I am concerned. My dog makes less of a mess and far less noise than children who are allowed on these patio areas.

I would have to say Einstein’s or the Willy’s at Piedmont Park, both are great for people watching. Oh and also Fado in Buckhead, the rooftop patio is always a blast!

The reason more places don’t have cafe seating is because the bldgs. aren’t originally built to be restaurants – thus not enough outside room.

Ah, Moe’s & Joe’s! I haven’t been there since college. I wonder if Horace is still around serving up pitchers of PBR? PBR has never tasted better than @ M&J.

Other than there, maybe Mambo Italiano at the Forum.

Dave, are you saying that Atlanta had buildings before it had restaurants? Or did Atlantan’s decided that eating out side was nice after the buildings were built? Who says that restaurants in Atlanta have to be in buildings that were not designed for outdoor dining restaurants? Really? :-/

If you read this and you like eating outside, try Fritti!!!

Perhaps this category should be renamed “Best outdoor dining outside of a highrise or mall overlooking a parking lot.”

I do not understand the Tavern at Phipps either. Like others said, it is a parking lot. Front Page News and Tijuana Garage in L5P both have nice courtyards with fountains and covered outdoor bars. By far the best I have found.

Please no dogs near my food. Your dog eats it’s own poo and is dirtier than my kid. Keep the dogs where they belong, at your house. I want to eat in a healthy environment.

The Warren City Club in Va Highlands. It has a pretty secluded view of downtown. We eat there for brunch all the time, and the food is great. I hate to recommend it because I don’t want the best kept brunch secret in town getting out to everyone, but they deserve the attention.

Trackside Grille in Kennesaw – (and they just got voted as one of the best Shrimp and Grits)

And dogs do not “rock” at restaurants. Bring a sandwich to a dog park if you want to eat with animals. Last time I went to a “dog friendly” restaurant, I had to deal with a young couple and their precious little snowflake schnauzer that was constantly begging for food. Next to that was a lab mix that was constantly washing his genitalia with his tongue.

I love dogs- just leave them at home and stop torturing them.

Midway in EAV. They have pure outdoor seating, and “covered” outdoor seating. The food is decent but overpriced, but the beer selection is what makes this place stand out.
